In our new build, the bedrooms upstairs are all about 12’x13′, which I’d say is fairly close to standard. However, there are a few challenges when planning the furniture layout, because each room has the main door to go in, a door to the closet, and a door to the adjoining bathroom. Not a bad problem to have, but it ends up being a lot of doors. Add in three awkwardly placed windows and we’re left with one wall option to place the bed. When you’re essentially building a spec home, there’s not much that can be done to move these more permanent features. So that means getting creative with the actual furniture used!
We took a “very official” survey of our future potential guests, and they all said they would prefer a king size bed with small nightstands (and limited walking area) over a queen size bed with a little more room for nightstands and moving around. Since our bedrooms are longer than they are wide on the bed wall, we’ll likely be using California King size beds (which are 4″ longer than a traditional king, but also 4″ less wide). It should be a great solution, and one of the beds we already own happens to be that size! But, it still requires the use of smaller nightstands.
With that, I’ve been on the hunt for narrow nightstands to help ease up on the limited space.
Narrow Nightstands
I found a lot of really cute options at a variety of price points that I thought I’d share with you today! Most of these nightstands are less than 20″ wide. For some of the really small ones, you could easily use wall-mounted sconces in lieu of table lamps so your guests still have some surface area for personal belongings. We’re using this rattan swing arm sconce in one of our bathrooms, but it would also be really cute over nightstands! It’s one that comes with a cord to plug-in, you can hardwire, or you could use these battery-operated bulbs for maximum installation flexibility!
Following are some narrow nightstands, all of which would work well for coastal decorating styles, but also many other styles. A few worth pointing out specifically:
- We have and love these small cane nightstands and we’ll be using them in one of the rooms. The quality is great for the price, they come in five great color options, and assembly was a breeze. They remind me so much of a smaller version of these designer nightstands we also own and love!
- Options like these charging nightstands help make the most of tight spaces by integrating outlets and USB ports right into the furniture!
- These budget-friendly rattan nightstands are highly rated, and a pair is less expensive than even one of some of the most affordable other options out there.
