Last week I shared a huge new build progress update. And today, I thought I’d share some tentative Florida design plan ideas for several of the spaces in our future home. Although I’ve been working on some of the designs for several months, it seems like every time I look at one of them I change something. Several still just have placeholders until I find “the one” (or a more affordable alternative) but with our move quickly approaching, I thought I’d share some of the progress so far! Some of these spaces may come together rather quickly after we move in, and others may take a year or two to wrap up.

Florida Entryway Design Plans
Our two-story entryway is one of our favorite spaces in the home! It makes a pretty dramatic impact on its own, so the decor and furniture will be fairly simple. After months of searching for a console table to fit the space, I think this console table is currently the top contender! I love the texture the whitewashed rope adds, and at only 15″ deep, it won’t be too overbearing in the relatively small footprint. We have lots of upward space, but not a lot of floor space here to contend with. I also love these customizable skirted striped ottomans – so many fun pattern options! They go on sale occasionally so I’d likely hold out until then if I decide to go with them.

Florida Office Design Plans
Right off the entryway is my office. I actually ordered this desk when we lived in Omaha and it has yet to arrive but should finally be here next week after being backordered! One of the things Kurtis and I are most excited about is having a space for the early mornings where we both have a desk. We drink our coffee, compare schedules for the day, and have some dedicated computer time before he goes to his dedicated home office for his day job. We’ve really been missing that time in our current house! Since we also run four companies out of our home now, managing paperwork can be a bit tedious, so we’re all about the storage. I think I Googled something like “large office storage cabinets” last night, and this was the first option that popped up. And now I sort of love it in the design! I’m not sure it’s tall enough for our 12′ ceilings. However, since this is intended to be the primary bedroom, I don’t think I want to deal with built-ins that may need to be removed down the road if we decide to sell.

Florida Kitchen Design Plans
One of the very first things I picked out for the house while at the lighting design studio was these pendant lights. While I didn’t pay anywhere near retail price, they were still a major splurge. But our kitchen is all white, and I knew I wanted to make a big statement. At the time, I had never seen them used in any projects before so that excited me too! So we went for it. Kurtis said with the 12′ ceilings, he’s never changing them so I’d better love what I picked. And he loves these too! Still super indecisive on counter stools at this point (especially since we need six). Aside from these in the mood board, I’m also considering these stools in the blue color since we loved our old ones so much. So holding out on ordering anything a bit longer. I also need to quickly pick a backsplash this week or next. I thought since I wasn’t using the “free” option from the builder, I would just have to deal with it all on my own after we move in. But they said if I can get them something quickly, they’ll install it for me! So, my goal this week is to get that finalized. The one in the mood board is just a placeholder, but I’d love to find something with a little bit of light blue in it. Otherwise I’ll likely go with a subway zellige tile.

Florida Dining Room Design Plans
The dining room is the furthest design plan from completion. At this point, I don’t think I’ll be using those dining chairs, but I know I want something with a warm, natural finish. We’ll be using our existing dining table (likely getting glass cut for the top) and I really want to add some wallpaper in here (not necessarily this one)! I recently shared tons of colorful coastal wallpaper ideas if you missed it.

Florida Bedroom Design Plans
You’ve seen a variation of this next design plan at some point in the last year. It has continued to evolve now that we know which room we’ll be using as our bedroom. Although the room we’ll be using upstairs is fairly small, we’ll have a vaulted ceiling so it feels much more expansive. We selected this Coco Bead Chandelier and I think it is going to be stunning! It’s another one that we were able to get at a major discount through our builder (thankfully!) and also another one Kurtis said he’ll never be changing due to ceiling heights. Do you see a pattern here? 😉 I’m still very much on team blue bed, but haven’t decided yet between this one, this one or this one. I have a bunch of blue fabric samples for the last two so I’m trying to narrow down my decision shortly since they’d take some time to arrive!

Florida Upstairs Bathroom Design Plans
In our upstairs bathroom, the vanity will be the stock blue cabinets that are also in the laundry room and carriage house kitchen. I used this vanity in the design board because it is nearly an identical shape/size/design. I love this mirror but it’s pricey, and I’m not actually sure it will fit. But I found a ton of great options in this post that I can pick from. I ordered a sample of this wallpaper (also here) years ago, and if I don’t use it in this space, I will definitely use it somewhere. The stripes have a handpainted effect with subtle brushstrokes and it’s so pretty! This is our only bathroom that could accommodate sconces flanking the mirror, so while I don’t know which ones I’ll use yet, I know I want them to be good!

Florida Guest Bedroom Design Plans
The guest bedroom design still needs some work, but trying to use items we already own to tie this one together! The room is small so we need tiny nightstands to accommodate the California king size bed. But I think our guests would prefer a larger bed over larger nightstands!

Florida Loft Living Room Design Plans
I’ll likely be using some brighter colors in textiles in the bedrooms, but I also think it would be really fun to have a colorful loft living room. This will be at the top of the staircase and is the perfect spot for our second TV. I plan to use the sectional we’ve had for years (previously in our den) and will then change up some of the decor that goes with it. Still very tentative, but I’m envisioning some pink, coral, and other fun colors brought into this space. We actually opted not to do a light fixture in this space (other than the canned lighting) due to the vaulted ceiling. But this adjoins our entryway, so the large Moravaian star pendant will still feel like a part of this room. I found so many fun colorful rugs (shared in this post) that I basically want to use them all! Such a tough decision!

Florida Screened Porch Design Plans
I literally can’t stop laughing at this next plan! I found a dog bed that matches the outdoor furniture, so I photoshopped Bailey’s face over the little French bulldog that was in the stock photo. Doesn’t it look like it was made for her!? 😉 We’re so excited about the larger screened-in porch we’ll have at the new house. We (along with the cats) have already gotten so much use out of the space we lovingly refer to as the catio. At the new house, we’ll have space for a small living area, dining, and the built-in outdoor kitchen (basically a grill and undercounter fridge). I threw this design plan together last night, so it’s definitely another one that will likely evolve but I like the overall direction it’s headed. It all started with this Outdoor Dining Table that seems priced very competitively now. It sounds like it may be a painted finish that doesn’t do great if left out in the elements, but with our porch being covered, I’m still strongly considering giving it a try. I love that these Outdoor Dining Chairs are stackable and have additional slipcover options you can purchase if you need a replacement or want to try a new color pattern. We’ll be using our Walmart patio chairs out in the cabana so I’m currently looking for optoins for the porch.

That wraps up today’s design plans! I have four or five more in the works but they’ve got a little ways to go yet and then I’ll circle back and share those as well! I’m excited to start implementing some of these soon!

I see the paint swatch popping up but don’t see the source anywhere? Could you pls share the blue colour? All looks awesome! Hope that you’re happy in Florida. We are leaving as all too much to take but you’ll have a beautiful home to enjoy!!
Sarah says
Sorry about that! I meant to mention that color indicates we have blue cabinets in the room or in an adjoining room. I don’t know the exact color of our stock cabinets, but the color in the boards is Benjamin Moore Santorini Blue which I think is fairly close to what we’ll have 🙂

Wow, I love all of your choices! Thanks for the inspiration…

I love your page. All of the natural finishes and color pallets are swoon-worthy. It appears the pink throw pillows are are linked to the PB Joshua vase. Would you mind providing a source for them?
