Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! We mixed in some fun with lots of moving and are still exhausted but making good progress. We officially closed on our new home last Thursday, and while we haven’t been able to move in yet, we’ve moved a lot of our stuff over. Today I’m sharing a few quick updates and more info on when we’ll officially move in!

Where Our Move Stands
We committed to the buyers of our current home that we will be out by next Friday, which we will be 100%. The biggest challenge right now is our furniture deliveries. Since we sold our home fully furnished and decorated, I was able to start from scratch. Which is fun, but also kind of a logistical nightmare. Our furniture has nearly all been received at both Pottery Barn and Serena & Lily delivery centers, but we require a full, dedicated truck with each store due to the size of our orders. As of now, I still don’t have an answer from either company as to when we can expect delivery, so that is a bit frustrating.
You know what’s not fun? Thinking it was a good idea to hang all of your own window coverings with your spouse the day you close on the house. Basically a recipe for disaster (or at least a lot of arguments). Ha! We ultimately went with these automated woven shades that we have in our current home for all of the bedrooms, French doors, and my office. I’m hanging cafe curtains in many of the other spaces for now. The shades are fairly straightforward to install, but we just had a lot of windows (eight in our bedroom alone) so it was a process!

We started moving items from our current home over to the new house with the help of a little UHaul rental van. It has honestly been so helpful, so we extended our rental another five days. It holds so much and is much easier to load than a traditional moving truck. And it is only $19 a day!

The current state of our living room. Not much to look at, but that view is pretty fantastic!

Friday night Kurtis and I got a second wind and loaded up the van and made two runs over with stuff. Since there was still a lot of work that needed to be done inside, we moved everything to the center of each room. You can see my design plans for the living room and dining room here.

Since we’ve moved to Florida, we’ve had a little storage unit, mostly for my seasonal decor. I can’t tell you how happy it made both of us to empty that out Saturday morning and turn in the keys. I literally hated it so much and never wanted to go there. Ha! Good thing we have some extra closets in this house. I refuse to part with all of my solid color ornaments since I tend to rotate color schemes each year. Kind of a nuisance to store, but worth it when I pick my theme and color scheme each year! We’re planning to store all our suitcases below the ornaments once the nail holes on the floor get filled.

Our first meal in the new house! Jersey Mike’s via Door Dash on the floor of the guest bedroom where we were mostly out of the way.

Our friends asked how they could best help us with the move, so we asked Chris to help Kurtis Sunday morning with moving some of the heavier items, and I asked Rachel to help me open all the boxes we had so far. We cranked it all out in about an hour and a half and were then left with this mess in the garage. Ha! But our builder’s crew had them broken down in no time by Monday morning.

Last night, we committed to washing the bedroom floor, getting the rug set, and setting up the bed (which is just a temporary frame since our bed is backordered). We only made it as far as the rug and pad, but felt like it needed to settle a bit to get the folds out. You can see my bedroom design plans here (just note that the shades on those plans have since changed to these since we opted to do automated).

Our house had all been cleaned last Thursday when we closed, but so many people have been in and out it’s very much no longer clean. Nobody has really been up in our bedroom though, so I thought the floors would be fine. But we brought this vacuum/steamer to be safe, and it’s a good thing. Look at the water from just that area. So gross!

I wanted to pop in with this update today (which I know is usually a Wednesday Watch List day). But my posting may be a bit irregular for the next week or so until we get fully moved. Which, fingers crossed, can be by this weekend. I have calls to make again today to PB and S&L to get some answers and definitive delivery dates. Thanks for following along on this journey with us! We’re so close to crossing the finish line!

Good morning! I’m reaching out about the woven chandelier from visual comfort. The polished nickel only comes in the extra large size which is 38 inches round. In your professional opinion, do you think this would look good and I know it depends on the size but I have a Restoration Hardware kitchen table that seats six and I’m hoping this won’t look too large. You purchased the extra large in polished nickel, correct? Not the medium? I believe the medium doesn’t come in polish nickel.
Love your blog! I’ve been following you for years. Much luck on your new move! Petra.
Thank you so much! And yes, I have the extra large size. Our table I ordered is extendable but we plan to leave the leaves out for regular use, so I’m guessing it will be a fairly similar situation to yours (I only ordered six chairs for now before deciding if I want two more). If you’re not in a rush to purchase, they usually do 20% off sitewide during holidays so may be worth waiting if you can! I hope that helps!
It’s happening!!!! Hope your calls to PB and S&L go well and the ball gets rolling for ya!!
The view to the backyard is so nice!!! The fencing is terrific! Happy moving!!!
Thank you Linda!
