New Build Progress: Part IV

Decorating Ideas, Tips and Trends, Home Tour

It’s hard to believe but it’s been almost two full months since my last official new build update! And depending on the next six weeks or so, this may actually be my last one (outside of sharing more design boards) until we move in. It’s hard to believe we’re so close! Today I’m sharing all the updates from the past two months.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Before we jump into the carriage house plans, I’m going to link up prior posts about our new build as well as the design boards I’ve shared so far in case you missed any! I go into more about why we’re moving, some of our favorite features of our new build, as well as the initial progress and selection meetings:

  • We’re Moving! Again!

  • New Build Progress: Part II
  • New Build Progress: Part III

And here are the design boards I’ve shared so far:

I also have some Instagram Story highlights saved throughout the process. You can check out the first set here and the second set here.

When I last left off, all the tile had been installed, the hardwood floors were in the process of being installed, the painters were prepping all the trim and doors for paint, and there was a lot of progress outside

The past few months have been all about refining what had been installed. That meant a lot of wood-fill, caulk and sanding to get smooth finishes on a lot of the surfaces. The attention to details is wild (and so appreciated)!

March 19, 2026 – Roughing in the fireplace mantel, all of which will be covered in a white plaster. You can also see some of the wood-fill and sanding on the ceiling and trim.

A little peek at the hardwood floors installed in the entryway before they got covered. As a reminder, we went with D&M Flooring Silver Oak French White Oak flooring in the Lotus stain. We ordered it locally through 8FIVE0 Tile in Santa Rosa Beach. Although it has a lot more dark knots than we expected, we love the overall tone and color.

I was in Atlanta on a business trip the week they laid out and ultimately poured the driveway. Thankfully Kurtis was around to make a few tweaks and get some pics. This was one of the steps that really made it feel like things were progressing! Plus, we no longer tracked sand everywhere we went!

March 29, 2026 – they poured the driveway

After getting our initial countertop bid (which came in at more than the cost of our first house) we had to make some serious adjustments. I really wanted marble in our kitchen, so in order to do that, but lower costs elsewhere we went with a durable white quartz in most of the bathrooms, laundry room and pantry. Our kitchen will be Calacatta Caldia, which is stunning! I love that the base is fairly white but it has both warm and gray veining throughout. You can see my kitchen design plans here.

More progress in the living room, once they drywalled and mudded the mantel.

The gas company will be onsite shortly, which means I needed to get all of our exterior lanterns ordered! We only have three that are gas, but I wanted them to coordinate with all the electric ones on the house. We ultimately went with these gas and these electric lanterns (and then this hanging lantern for the porch).

April 19, 2026 – Testing lantern sizes

One of the most exciting days so far was when they put the first coat of paint on all the interior doors! We opted for Benjamin Moore Silver Gray (you can read more about that here). I had been holding my breath until I saw that color but we were so happy with how it turned out.

April 20, 2026 – the first coast of paint on our interior doors!
April 24, 2026 – our interior doors painted Benjamin Moore Classic Gray

Another exciting day was when they painted all of Kurtis office trim and ceiling (Benjamin Moore Hale Navy). The walls were eventually painted, as well (I’ll share that a bit further down), but we were excited to see these design plans coming to life!

April 27, 2026 – The navy blue trim (Benjamin Moore Hale Navy) was sprayed on the trim, ceiling and doors in Kurtis’ office

Shortly after, they started installing all the cabinet bases! It was also the first day we saw our floor uncovered in our laundry room. So fun seeing each space slowly coming to life! All of the white cabinets (and trim) are Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace. The walls will be the same color as well, but there is only primer up currently.

April 29, 2026 – in the butler’s pantry, looking into the kitchen

In both our bathroom and the carriage house kitchen and bathroom (shown below) I took a chance and had them paint the cabinet’s Benjamin Moore Silver Gray (the same color as our doors). Thankfully they all turned out beautifully and I didn’t have to call the cabinet company in a panic to repaint once I saw the doors!

April 28, 2026 – our carriage house bathroom

Once the island was set and the sink installed, it was becoming much easier to envision how this space will look.

May 4, 2026 – the sink and side panels on the island were installed

The carriage house gets so much natural light in the evenings when we typically stop over. So much so, it’s almost difficult to see that the island is painted in this photo, but it’s the same color as the doors. It was fun to add a bit of color up here. I have more details in the carriage house design plans post. The range hood here still needs to be sanded and plastered but gives you an idea of the rough shape.

Here’s a peek at our bathroom with the cabinet bases installed. They are also the Benjamin Moore Silver Gray, since we knew this room would look pretty stark without some color. There will cabinet towers installed on the countertop on each of the vanity. The tub will go in front of the window. All of the plumbing has been delivered so I imagine that will start here pretty soon! I have some fun features in our vanity too, including a pull-out little trash can and a hot tools drawer for me that will hold my blow dryer, curling iron and flat iron so I don’t have to leave them out on the countertop.

May 4, 2026 – our bathroom cabinet bases were installed

One really bad choice on my part – the vanity I chose for the powder bath. I had ordered it on a Black Friday and got a great price but we nevered opened it because it was packed so well and we didn’t want it to get damaged. When we finally opened it, it looked awful with our floors. But, I still love the shape and everything else about it, so the painters are going to paint it the color of our doors and we’re going to hope for the best! Thankfully I hadn’t finalized my wallpaper selection for this space, so it should be an easy pivot.

May 6, 2026 – the vanity I hate the color of!

The pool tile was installed last week! We weren’t expecting the tile on the spillway (top area between the pool and hot tub) but I think once it’s all finished and filled it will look nice. We love the striped pattern we did with the subway tiles! They are the House of Ezra 2×6 zellige tiles in the light blue (duck egg blue) and white. The picture below is before they finished all the tile and before grout.

May 7, 2026 – pool tile install!

The base for the outdoor kitchen has also been set. The large thing in the middle will be the grill and then we’ll also have a beverage fridge and a sink.

May 7, 2026 – our outdoor kitchen install

Kurtis was out of town for work the day they painted the walls in his office. They’re so hard to photograph but it all looks so good! I’m really excited to see this room come together for him. You can see the full design plans here. I’m looking forward to them getting the built-in cabinets set in here, too!

May 7, 2026 – Office walls were painted!

I hadn’t really thought about our appliances much since we had selected those late last year, so it was exciting when they were all delivered!

May 8, 2026 – all of our appliances were delivered

We swung over this past weekend, and it looks like they had to tear out the range hood that was originally built. I was initially thinking it looked a bit small, and once the appliances were delivered, they must have realized it was. So, back to the rebuild phase there – it’s a beast!

May 9, 2026 – Rebuilding the range hood

Last week while Kurtis was traveling for work, I also met with the hardscape installer as well as the landscaper. We identified where the pool deck, flower beds, various plants, etc. will go. I imagine they’ll start installing some of those elements (particularly the pool deck) within the next few weeks!

Things will begin to move even more rapidly now that the cabinet bases are here. They were able to template our countertops last week, so once those are installed, they’ll move on to appliances, plumbing, lighting, etc. All the pretty and exciting installs!

This may be my last official update until we move in, but I’ll be sure to share more in my Instagram Stories along the way up until then!
