Sharing our 2021 Christmas design boards and decorating ideas for nearly every room in our home!
Today I’m sharing our 2021 Christmas design boards and decorating ideas! This helps me to take inventory of items I already have and helps ensure I don’t overspend on seasonal decor that I’ll only use for a few months! Hopefully they also help to give you some ideas for your own seasonal decor! If you’re interested in making your own design boards, you can see my full tutorial here. Although I don’t typically stick 100% to plan, I feel like it’s a pretty good guide to where things will end up, with a few tweaks along the way!
I initially intended to go a completely different direction with my decor this year, but I’m back to traditional colors and all the Stewart plaid I could find. To keep things relatively simple this year, I feel like if an area is lacking decor, my mantra is going to be “put a bow on it”. So there’s also that 😉 Let’s jump right into the plans!

2021 Christmas Design Boards & Decorating Ideas
Starting in our entryway, you’ll find pretty quickly that this room is going to look quite a bit different than most of the others this year. I had originally planned to go with a brown & blue toned theme for the whole house. But, then I couldn’t find much of what I had envisioned. I had already bought some velvet ribbon for the entryway, so we’re going with it despite it not coordinating with many of the other rooms 😉 I’m most excited to use this Pinecone Wreath that I bought on major clearance last year after the end of the season. I was so happy to see they brought it back again this year!
CHRISTMAS ENTRYWAY SOURCES: Pinecone Garland | Gold Bell Set | Brown Velvet Ribbon | Khaki Velvet Ribbon | Plaid Rug | Lantern Pendant Chandelier | White Raffia Cabinet | Black Thin Framed Mirror | Wood Bowl | Ornaments | Wreath | Mini Lit Tree | Pinecone Wreath | Raffia Console Table | Ticking Stripe Upholstered Cubes | Round Mirror | Paint Dipped Vase | Faux Berry Juniper Branch | Wood Nativity | Wood Crèche | Metal Stars | Wood Cypress Trees | Swing Arm Sconce | ‘It Is Well’ Canvas | Bench | Embroidered Square Pillow Cover (similar here) | Similar Velvet Pillow Cover | Door Color: Benjamin Moore Water’s Edge | Wall Color: Simply White
This year, I’ll be using these Plaid Pillow Covers in our living room. I love that you can buy them with or without an insert and how they add just the right amount of red to the room! Although the colors will essentially be the same as I used last year, by reversing some of the bold options, I think it will still give a very different look! And great news – as of right now, my favorite slim Faux Christmas Tree is back in stock! As predicted, our garland sold out super quickly and Afloral has said they don’t have plans to restock this year. I’ve searched all over for a similar look and pricepoint and this garland is the best I could come up with!
CHRISTMAS LIVING ROOM SOURCES: Gallery Wall Frames | Linen Sofas | Velvet Pillow Cover | Linen Pillows | Plaid Pillow Covers | Leather Buckle Back Chairs | Cotton Waffle Sherpa Back Throw Blanket | Faux Christmas Tree | Capiz Star Tree Topper | Woven Tree Collar | Raffia Coffee Table | Weathered Black Vase | Faux Cedar Stems | Wooden Nutcrackers | Faux Real Touch Garland | Chunky Knit Stockings (look for less here)
Regardless of season, I try and keep the decor in our kitchen to a minimum. These Stewart Plaid Tea Towels along with a bowl filled with leftover ornaments are the perfect way to bring in some holiday color and cheer without bringing in too much clutter!
CHRISTMAS KITCHEN SOURCES: Natural Wood Serving Board | Navy Blue Wood Serving Board | White Serving Board | Stewart Plaid Tea Towels | Real-Touch Faux Pine Wreath | Basket Pendant Light | Pedestal Bowl | Red Ornaments | Cabinet Knob | Cabinet Bin Pull | Dutch Oven | Recipe Book Stand | “Very Merry Cocktails” Book | Wood Lanterns | Runner Rug | Bistro Counter Stool | Paint Colors: Benjamin Moore Simply White and Benjamin Moore Providence Blue
Moving into our dining room, the star of the show will be this Stewart Plaid Rug. I had some Rewards dollars to use, and rather than buy something practical, I splurged on this gorgeous rug, that I can guarantee will bring a smile to my face every holiday season when I bring it out! I’m also really excited to bring my “Fall On Your Knees” Canvas back in the space this year too.
CHRISTMAS DINING ROOM SOURCES: “Fall On Your Knees” Canvas | Faux Natural Fir Christmas Tree | Moravian Star Tree Topper (similar here) | Linear Chandelier (look for less here) | Mirror | Real-Touch Faux Pine Wreath | Red Velvet Ribbon | Buffet Table | Cane Chairs – CB2 (no longer available) – similar here | Round Dining Table | Stewart Plaid Rug | Weathered Black Vase | Faux Cedar Stems | Wood Charger | Gold Flatware
As we move upstairs, everything in our bedroom will be items I’ve used in years past! These Stewart Plaid & Sherpa Lumbar Pillows were one of my all-time favorite buys last year (the sherpa backs are so cozy) and I’ll be using them in our bedroom instead of the living room. This Christmas Tree was a new purchase last year too, and I can’t believe I waited so long to have a tree in our bedroom! I’m convinced we’ll have one now every year from here on out!
CHRISTMAS MASTER BEDROOM SOURCES: Wingback Bed | Cane Nightstands | Wood Bead Chandelier | White Jute Rug | Lamps | Frames | Striped Curtains | Brass Curtain Rod | Stewart Plaid & Sherpa Lumbar Pillows | Velvet Pillows | Bench | Dresser | Mirror | Vase | Faux Juniper Stems | Wood Bowl | Ornaments | Christmas Tree | Woven Tree Collar | Olive Wreath | Red Velvet Ribbon
In our main guest bedroom, I’ll be using the Stewart Plaid Shams & Duvet Cover that we used on our bed last year! It’s an easy way to change up the look in both spaces without having to buy anything new. Just doing a little room swap for a fresh perspective! And, while I’m not entirely sure this fairly slim Faux Christmas Tree will fit in here, I’m still going to give it a try. It likely won’t ever get ornaments, but I love the twinkling glow of Christmas lights!
CHRISTMAS GUEST BEDROOM SOURCES: Upholstered Bed | Stewart Plaid Shams & Duvet Cover | Velvet Pillow Covers | Bead Chandelier | Raffia Nightstands | White Ceramic Lamps (come as a set of two) | Gallery Wall Frames | Red Velvet Ribbon | Faux Christmas Tree | Capiz Star Tree Topper | Woven Tree Collar | Cane Chair | Dresser | Round Mirror | Weathered Black Vase | Faux Pine Bundles | Small Wood Chain Decor
This will be the first Christmas since we renovated our Jack & Jill bathroom, so I felt like it needed a little holiday treatment as well! This is the bathroom that sits between our guest bedroom above with our den. Despite how simple the updates will be, this is one of the rooms I’m most excited to decorate!
CHRISTMAS GUEST BATHROOM SOURCES: Vanity | Pivot Mirrors | Light Fixtures | Red Velvet Ribbon | Sink Faucets | Bath Accessories Set | Pinwheel Carrara Marble Floor Tile | Stewart Plaid Bath Mat | Stewart Plaid Towels | Brass Moravian Star Light | Beveled Subway Tiles | Shower/Tub Fixtures | Bathtub | Paint Dipped Vase | Faux Pine Bundles | Paint Color: Benjamin Moore Simply White
In our smaller guest bedroom, I only have a few small swaps planned. This is the room Kurtis is also using as his office, so he doesn’t like me getting too overboard with the decor (aka his Zoom background). 😉 I’m planning to use these budget-friendly Plaid Pillows with other pillows we already have on hand. And since the window in this room faces the street, I always love to hang a wreath from the curtain rod!
CHRISTMAS GUEST BEDROOM SOURCES: Cane Bed | “Silent Night” Canvas | Real-Touch Faux Pine Wreath | Navy Velvet Ribbon | Bead Chandelier | Linen Pillows | Plaid Pillows | Velvet Pillow | Woven Bench | Cast Iron Curtain Rod (1.25″) | Linen Blackout Curtains | Spindle Nightstand | Faux Mini Lit Tree | Lamp
I’m so excited for these plaid pillow covers to arrive. I like the varying shades of green in the plaid and just how affordable they are. They’re also reversible as is this cute option that would pair with it really well!
DEN MOOD BOARD SOURCES: Linen Sectional | Coffee Table | Chandelier | “Cedar Berries & Snow” Art | Similar Velvet Pillow Cover | Plaid Pillow Covers | Swiss Cross Pillows | Braided Jute Poufs | Ceramic Vase | Faux Cedar Stems | Wood Bowl | Ornaments | Faux Christmas Tree | Woven Tree Collar | Paint Dipped Ladder | Board and Batten Paint Color: Benjamin Moore Hale Navy
Essentially the day after I photograph the pool house for the reveal, I’ll be taking down most of the decor to decorate for Christmas. I ended up buying this 9′ Pre-Lit Christmas Tree for the space since I love my other trees from this brand so much! There was a week or two delay back when I ordered it, but I’m hoping it will arrive next week some time! I’m going to keep everything else out here super simple, since it’s been non-stop chaos in this space for the past five months! The pillows I used in our fall den will be moved down here and dressed up for Christmas!
POOL HOUSE CHRISTMAS DECOR: 9′ Pre-Lit Christmas Tree | Upholstered Outdoor Sofa | Upholstered Swivel Chairs | Coffee Table | Side Tables | Rug | Plaid Pillow Covers | Corduroy Pillow Covers | Suede Stripe Pillow | Paint Dipped Vase | Faux Cedar Stems | Navy Blue Velvet Ribbon
That wraps up my Christmas decor plans for the year! I’m sure there will be a few real-time changes, but I feel good about the direction everything is headed!
