I hope you all have had a great weekend so far! My mom flew back home yesterday and we were able to wrap up about 95% of my Christmas decorating, which feels great and I can’t wait to share it all with you! I’m just waiting on a few items to arrive, I’ll photograph it and then share within the next week or so! In the meantime, today I wanted to share my initial 2024 Christmas design boards with you! I know we just closed out Halloween (and I just shared our fall home tour Tuesday), but I want to share early to allow for decisions and delivery times.

I actually finished most of these design boards two+ months ago. I’ve made a few tweaks here and there but my vision was pretty clear early on! If you’ve followed along for a while, you know I love to make these design boards to take inventory of what I already have and to see what I still need to order. It’s also a great way to ensure I don’t over-order, since everything I order has a spot. I have a tutorial here if you’re interested. The interface has changed a bit but still functions very similarly.
My mom and I definitely tweaked a few things along the way, but for the most part, the plans are very close to what you’ll be seeing soon! Bottom-line: I brought back in a lot of traditional Stewart plaid, red velvet and dusty blues. And has been the case for the past several years – I made some everyday decor more festive with the addition of a simple velvet bow. Let’s get into the details!
Our 2024 Christmas Design Boards
This will be the first time I’ve decorated our porch for Christmas, and not only that, I also have plans for the back porch, as well (at the end of this post). I’ve been using these Pre-Lit Faux Birch Trees for as long as I can remember and still love them! Up close they’re definitely fake, but I love how pliable they are and they look absolutely gorgeous lit up at night! My mom and I also added some fresh rosemary topiaries from a local nursery to my footed planters and I already love the whole look so much!
CHRISTMAS FRONT PORCH SOURCES: Christmas Wreath | Plaid Outdoor Rug (also here) | Jute Rug | Copper Gas Lanterns | Pre-Lit Faux Birch Trees | Rocking Chairs | Stewart Plaid Throw Blanket | Striped Outdoor Pillows | Footed Planters | Velvet Ribbon | House Color: Sherwin Williams Greek Villa | Door Color: Sherwin Williams Niebla Azul
As I did last year, we layered both this Cedar Garland and Real-Touch Garland down the staircase and it’s such a beautiful combination!
CHRISTMAS ENTRYWAY SOURCES: Moravian Star Chandelier | Real-Touch Garland | Cedar Garland | Plaid Ribbon | Console Table | Wicker Christmas Trees (look for less here, here & here) | Stewart Plaid Picture Frames | Lamp | Wreath | Red Velvet Ribbon | Plaid Rug
Moving into our kitchen, one of the greatest joys for me this year was finding out that Pottery Barn brought back the Stewart plaid rugs I used in our 2021 Christmas home tour and now also offer red and green versions! I wavered back and forth on using the red or the white, and my mom convinced me red was the way to go. It’s such a fun way to add a pop of color – especially to an all-white kitchen!
CHRISTMAS KITCHEN SOURCES: Woven Chandeliers (look for less options here) | Wreath | Faucet | Pot Filler | Salt & Pepper Mills | Stewart Plaid Tree Serving Platter | Red Stewart Plaid Platter | Wood Recipe Stand | “Very Merry Cocktails” Book | Plaid Hand Towels | Hand Soap | Rosemary Candle | Large Footed Bowl | Ornaments | Stewart Plaid Rug | Swivel Counter Stools | Mini Christmas Trees | Cabinet Knobs | Cabinet Bin Pulls | Rattan Sheets (still planning to back our glass cabinets with this) | Wall & Trim Color: Sherwin Williams Snowbound
Most of my designs were planned around this gorgeous dusty blue Stewart plaid ribbon. Sadly, it has already sold out, so I’m just hoping for a re-stock. But they do offer this kelly green version, olive green version, and white version if your plans don’t include as much blue! It’s such a great quality and a beautiful way to incorporate several colors into your decorating scheme. If you’re looking for velvet ribbon, this brand has always been a winner for me and this antique blue is the pretty one I used last year (and pops up a bit this year).
CHRISTMAS LIVING ROOM SOURCES: Woven Shades (Bonaire Flaxen) | Sofas (read my full review here) | Chairs | Coffee Table | Indoor/Outdoor Striped Rug | Frame TV | Frame TV Art | Plaid Ribbon | Plaid Pillow Covers | Plaid & Faux Fur Throw Blanket | Velvet Pillow Cover | Silver Vase | Faux Juniper & Berry Bundle | Wood Nutcracker | Candle Sleeve | Lamps | Sofa Table | Christmas Tree | Wrapping Paper Set | Wreaths | Blue Ornaments | Red Ornaments | Silver Jingle Bell Ornaments
After painting our dining room Benjamin Moore Smoke, I’ve been contemplating bringing down these dining chairs from our carriage house to add a little warmth and texture. This room is fairly small, so most of the decor will come in the form of items on the table top!
CHRISTMAS DINING ROOM SOURCES: Dining Chairs | Dining Table | Rug | Chandelier | Abstract Art | Wreath | Stewart Plaid Napkins | Faux Evergreen Chargers | Gold Bar Serving Set | Faux Pine Stems | Vase | Wine Bottle Bow Collar | Velvet Throw Pillow Covers | Paint Color: Benjamin Moore Smoke
With a simple swap of hand towels and greenery, our powder bath will quickly be ready for the holidays!
SOURCES: Oceana Wallpaper | Rattan Vanity Light | Cane Mirror (similar here) | Vanity | Faucet | Faux Juniper & Berry Bundle | Hand Soap | Seagrass Waste Basket | Scalloped Bath Mat | Wreath | Plaid Hand Towel | Merry Hand Towel
In my office, I’ll be keeping things fairly simple with some greenery, velvet bows, and hanging this “Comfort & Joy” Art from Lindsay Letters that I got last year! I have the Dusty Blue script with the White Gallery Frame.
OFFICE CHRISTMAS SOURCES: White Ceramic Lamps (look for less here) | Blue Porcelain Lamp | Console Table | Rug | Chandelier | Single Desk | L-Shaped Desk | Leather Desk Chairs | Blue Linen Bookcase | White Footed Bowl | Red Ornaments | Wreaths | “Comfort & Joy” Art | Red Velvet Ribbon | Mini Christmas Trees
Moving up to the loft, I had to get a bit creative with mixing Christmas colors and our colorful pastel rug. I ultimately decided that limiting pattern and sticking to mostly solids was the easiest way to do so. One thing I will note: I own several colors of these velvet throw pillow covers and have for five or six years (maybe longer)? It’s so great to have a few of the basic colors on hand for seasonal decorating. They never go out of style, the texture is so cozy in the colder months, and they’re easy to mix and match with other patterns!
CHRISTMAS LOFT SOURCES: Woven Shades (Bonaire Flaxen) | Rattan Cabinet | Frame TV | Frame TV Art | Quilted Bow Stockings | Sectional | Chunky Knit Throw Pillow Covers | Velvet Throw Pillow Covers | Similar Rug (also here) | Star Chandelier | Lamps | Console Table | Baskets | Buffalo Check Throw Blankets | Vase | Faux Greenery | Christmas Tree | Block Print Christmas Tree Skirt | Blue Velvet Ribbon | Red Velvet Ribbon | Red Orb Ornaments | Flocked Blue Ornaments
In our bedroom, I thought it would be fun to add in this red Stewart Plaid Duvet Cover & Euro Shams for the holidays. We’ve owned the white version of the set for five or six years and still love it so much! The plaid pattern is so classic and cheerful for the holidays.
CHRISTMAS BEDROOM SOURCES: Upholstered Bed (look-for-less option here) | Nightstands | Chandelier | Rug | Wreath | Striped Sheets | Stewart Plaid Duvet Cover & Euro Shams | Velvet Throw Pillow Covers | Waffle Knit Blanket | Lamps | Stewart Plaid Picture Frames | Scalloped Water Hyacinth Tray | Vase | Faux Norfolk Pine Stems | Velvet Ribbon | Coral Style Mirror | Bench
We don’t use the adjoining bathroom to get ready since the technical primary bedroom is my office on the first floor. So, it’s easy to style this one seasonally because it isn’t where we get ready and we don’t need the counter space. Now that the striped wallpaper has been installed, the red velvet makes for such a fun pairing! If you have sconces anywhere in your home, try tying a ribbon on them for the holidays!
CHRISTMAS BATHROOM SOURCES: Scalloped Mirror | Sconces | Faux Soft Cedar Wreath | Velvet Ribbon | Cabinet Knobs | Hand Soap | Faux Evergreen & Berry Bundle | Vase | Scalloped Tray | Striped Wallpaper | Scalloped Bath Mat | Plaid Hand Towels | Paint Sample: Benjamin Moore Santorini Blue
Since we recently did a mini makeover in our guest bedroom, not much needs to be updated for the holidays. I’ll just swap out the greenery and make use of some of the velvet pillows I’ve had on hand!
CHRISTMAS GUEST BEDROOM SOURCES: Bed | Wreath | Nightstand | Lamp | Bench | Rug | Wicker Chandelier | Plaid Throw Blanket | Duvet Cover Set | Euro Shams | Velvet Pillow Covers | Dresser | Jingle Bell Wreath | Faux Evergreen Stems | Vase | Palm Wallpaper
Because of the large sliding glass door that takes up the whole wall in our living room, I decided to decorate the outdoor living area for Christmas this year since it feels like it’s part of the same space! With that, I made sure the items I chose would coordinate well with the items inside.
CHRISTMAS OUTDOOR LIVING ROOM SOURCES: Rope Chandeliers | Outdoor Sofa | Striped Pillows | Plaid Outdoor Pillows | Wreath | Outdoor Coffee Table | Striped Rug | Vase | Faux Greenery | Velvet Ribbon | Serving Set | Outdoor Swivel Chairs | Stewart Plaid Faux Fur Throw Blanket | Pre-Lit Birch Trees
If rumor holds true, we’re supposed to have a warmer and drier winter this year. With that, I’m really hoping we get to make more use out of our outdoor dining space – especially when we host our gingerbread house contest!
CHRISTMAS OUTDOOR DINING AREA SOURCES: Outdoor Dining Table | Outdoor Dining Chairs | Rope Pendant Light | Striped Rug | Cordless Table Lamps | Plaid Outdoor Pillows | Plaid Table Runner | Red Plaid Platter | Plaid Christmas Tree Platter | Faux Bamboo Flatware | Velvet Bow Napkin Ring | Placemats | Vase | Faux Evergreen Stems
That wraps up this year’s Christmas design boards! I can’t wait to share the full home tour with you soon!

I like the bright red with the dusty blue. I don’t understand the bathroom comment though. Do you go downstairs to get ready in the bathroom attached to your office?
Sarah says
Thank you Victoria! And yes, that is correct. We use the closet and bathroom attached to my office because they’re much larger. I know it isn’t for everyone and we weren’t sure how we would like it. But it has worked really well for us – especially if one of us needs to get ready early or one of us stays up later!
Debra says
Stunning! How clutch that you were able to find a plaid ribbon that marries the soft coastal blues used in your home. How do you find the upkeep of the linen covered bookcase in your office? I’ve been eying it for ages but worried that it would be a dust magnet with no easy care fix.
Sarah says
Thank you Debra! And I LOVE the bookcase! They have a coating on it, so it really hasn’t been an issue. It is such an improvement over their Blake line they used to have that was raw raffia. We had several of those pieces and I wouldn’t do it again. But we now have the bookcase, console table and coffee table in the Driftway line and love it! Not sure if you saw, but they’re currently doing a sale WITH free shipping (even on furniture).

The link to the euro sham in the guest bedroom is wrong.
Sarah says
