Home Projects & Updates
I spent a lot of last week prepping some design plans for the Florida house. There are a few pieces of furniture we need to have replaced before the busy season starts, so I’m trying to finalize an overall plan before I buy anything. I’m hoping to share more of the plans next week, and I’d love to get your feedback at that time!
And in not as exciting of news, we’re still waiting to hear the final report back on our Omaha rental that flooded a few weeks back. If you missed the news, the tenant left town for several weeks and turned off the heat. The pipes in the home froze, burst and flooded the house. Here’s how the basement looked when Kurtis stopped over. The basement is almost a 100% gut job. We had completely renovated it a few years back, so it’s disheartening to see.
The initial leak started when the kitchen sink pipes blew, so unfortunately, all of the lower cabinets were ruined as well as all the flooring.
Two of the bathrooms have been fully gutted as well. We’re hoping to get more info this week to know how to proceed from here. With everything else we have going on, neither of us really wants to deal with renovating this home again. Once we get the report back from the restoration company and insurance, we’d love if we could sell as is and just let a new homeowner fix it up how they want. But, in order to get the full insurance money back, we’re hearing we may have to do the work and submit receipts to be made whole. We’re hoping that’s not the case, but if so, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there!
I finally got all of our Christmas decor put away. With that, I’ve slowly started to add back in other decor to either warm things up for the remaining winter months or to add subtle touches of spring.
As I mentioned in the new Studio McGee products post, I added this floor lamp to the pool house. I also made a few easy updates to the kitchen area that I’ll be sharing later this week!
POOL HOUSE LIVING ROOM/KITCHEN SOURCES: Outdoor Sofa (Perennials Basketweave – Chalk) | Rug | Plaid Pillow Cover | Corduroy Pillow Cover | Linen Throw Blanket | Tripod Floor Lamp | Basket Pendant Lights | Brass Sconce Lights | Blue Ceramic Vase | Navy Blue Lamp | LVP Floors
Is anyone surprised that I want to skip the rest of winter and just move right into spring? I started making some tentative spring decor plans last week and a few items I ordered arrived. Definitely feeling the pale blues, aquas, and greens this year!
SOURCES: Faux Tulips | Woven Striped Pillow | Recycled Glass Beads | Pedestal Bowl | Lichen Moss | Hand Towel Set
I’d ideally love to share a spring home tour prior to the end of February if I can get my act together! I’m hoping if I work on it a bit each week, I should have it all done fairly quickly!

In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!
Following are the most read blog posts of last week (excluding any of the new posts already mentioned above). Many times this includes old posts that are popular on Google or Pinterest.
Around Town & For Fun
We finally had a decent snowstorm on Friday. I actually don’t hate the snow when I have nowhere to go and can look at it from inside!
It’s hard to see, but I was cleaning the pool house on Saturday morning and I though the reflection of the snow covered pines in the bathroom mirror was so pretty! It’s been so fun watching each of the seasons for the first time out here!
POOL HOUSE BATHROOM SOURCES:  Vanity | Light Fixture | Mirror | Towel Bar | Toilet Paper Holder | Hand Towel | Hand Soap | Faucet | Woven Waste Basket | Door Hardware | LVP Floors
I finally worked on this 500 piece double sided puzzle. It was a fun one! Henley thought so too 😉 And yes, she now has a little edema around her lip/chin, because we had to switch foods again. The food that was finally working for them is now not available for several months, and we’re having to sub it for something that doesn’t work as well for Bailey’s diabetes (or Henley’s grain intolerance). Super frustrating!
We decided to swap out the light fixture in our home office. Hanging lights is for sure Kurtis’ favorite pastime 😉 Once I get the office organized and cleaned up, I’ll share a full shot of the light in the room! After painting the walls white, the old white bead chandelier just kind of got lost, so I’m loving the warm gold tones this one adds!
Per usual, Henley was voted #1 supervisor. We aren’t even sure how she managed to fall asleep like this!
Bailey got another floor cushion, this time from her aunt and uncle. Their cat wasn’t interested in the one they ordered so Bailey was a happy recipient! Hawkeye has now taken over the one in the office and they share the one out in the pool house.
When it gets cold out, Hawkeye turns into a little lovebug. It’s so not his personality, but he wants in our laps, on our legs, anywhere we allow him basically!
Saturday night, we had Kurtis’ sister and brother-in-law over for dinner and cards to celebrate her birthday! It was literally the first time I had done my hair and put on makeup since New Year’s Eve. It’s actually kind of embarrassing to admit that! I haven’t left the house since then either which is crazy. I’ll thank Dry January and dieting for that 😉 But I love the cozy warm glow out in the pool house this time of year. It’s also a fun place to watch the snow fall!
POOL HOUSE LIVING ROOM SOURCES: Outdoor Sofa (Perennials Basketweave – Chalk) | Outdoor Swivel Chairs (Perennials Basketweave – Coastal Blue) | Round Storage Coffee Table | Rug | Woven Stools | Plaid Pillow Cover | Corduroy Pillow Cover | Floating Shelf Mantel | Frame TV (teak frame) | Ceiling Fan | Warm Gold Curtain Rod | Warm Gold Curtain Rings | Curtain Panels (I have a pair on each side due to the width of the sliding door) | Colorblock Vase | Fireplace Tile | Floor Lamp
I already feel behind this week now that it’s Tuesday! But, I already have a lot of content ready to share with you guys over the coming weeks! And I’ll keep counting down those days until spring arrives!

Just curious. Were you Omaha tenants from somewhere that doesn’t have freezing temps. Just surprised they didn’t consider the pipes freezing in Omaha if they turned the heat off.
Sarah says
I believe they are from Chicago, so I don’t know if they only lived in apartments previously where it may not be as big of an issue? We have never met them because our property manager handles all interaction with our tenants at this point!
Tischa says
What type/brand of blind do you have in the pool house window near the fireplace?
Sarah says
This is an automated Serena shade from Lutron!
Mary Wilburn says
So sorry for your rental house nightmare! Hoping it all works out for you to sell. Would love to know if you’re doing a review on the Serena and Lily sofa in the pool house. You’ve always loved and raves about the PB sofa so wondering how you would compare the two.
Stay warm!
Xoxo
Sarah says
Thank you! And yes – I absolutely plan to once we’ve had it for a little more time and can speak to wear. But so far so good! It’s not as comfy to lay on as the PB one (because it’s not as deep) but it is comfier to sit on (for the same reason). I had to wash the sofa slipcover once already thanks to a sick cat, but it cleaned up perfectly!
Mina says
Everything looks beautiful. Can you please share where you found the trash basket from the bathroom? It’s exactly what I need (3 of them) Thank you so much!
Sarah says
Thank you so much! And here’s the link for the trash basket! https://rstyle.me/+t49V6Mgt2KghDIE6FToIjw We actually have three of them too 🙂
