Good morning, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice and relaxing weekend. I was in Utah most of the week with my family, but here’s what else we were up to this past week!

Home Projects & Updates
Over at the new build, things are starting to look a lot different! Last week I shared that they had primed many of the surfaces, and now they’ve actually applied the first layer of paint on the shiplap and trim! I selected Sherwin Williams Snowbound for all the walls and trim. The wall and shiplap will be in a semi-gloss finish and the walls will be flat (chosen by our builder). Our builder uses SW paint, and since I prefer not to color match whites (more on that in this post), I went with the color in our current home since I know it works well in this lighting! I’m really happy with it so far!
They opted to do a few barn doors in some spaces rather than pocket doors. Not necessarily my preference, but I think they may be fun to paint a different color down the road.
All of our cabinetry gets delivered on Wednesday, so once the hardwood floors and tile are all wrapped up, I’m guessing those will be installed shortly after.
While I was out of town, I also received word that we’re at the point to start making pool selections! I’ve mentioned in the past that our new pool is rather tiny, but we have access to so many other pools we aren’t too worried about it. We’re actually most excited about having a hot tub, since we think it will get a lot of use in the winter months here!
Back at home, Kurtis assembled my rattan desk for me. Soooo much better than the six foot card table I was using. It’s a bit shallow for my massive monitor/all-in-one computer. But it would be perfect for a laptop or smaller screen. We’ll be using it in the carriage house once we move, since we need something this size out there. Overall, we’re both super impressed with the quality! It reminds me so much of this desk for a fraction of the price!

Around Town & For Fun
First and foremost, thank you all so much for your prayers and warm wishes for my dad as he underwent open heart surgery last week. The surgery was early Monday morning, and things went mostly as planned. He was then in the ICU until Wednesday and then moved to a regular room. He wasn’t discharged from the hospital until Friday afternoon. I had originally planned to fly home late Thursday night, but ended up changing my flight to Saturday night to be with them a bit once he got home. With this type of surgery, he won’t be able to lift anything over 8 lbs for the next month or two, and won’t be able to drive for at least a month. He’s a do-er so it will be challenging for him to sit still for so long, but much better than the alternative!
This was the view driving back to my parents’ house Monday night after surgery. It’s such a beautiful time of year in Utah!
If I wasn’t in the hospital visiting my dad, I was back at the house hanging out with these two cuties.
My brother and I also did some yard cleanup. While he mowed the lawn, I trimmed a bunch of their bushes. They have the same hedge trimmer we do, so it was a breeze. Well, at least trimming them was – I always hate having to pick up the clippings 😉
My parents have a beautiful and peaceful backyard with tons of bird feeders. My brother tested out my mom’s hummingbird feeder ring one night. While none drank out of it, several were very close to doing so! I think with a little more time, it would have worked! If nothing else, it was fun to keep watching him get buzzed 😉
While the situation for us all being together wasn’t ideal, it was fun to get to spend some one-on-one dedicated time with my family for the week!
I flew home late Saturday night. I was moving pretty slowly on Sunday, but we did swing over to “Locals Last Stand”. It’s basically a big party for all the locals before the chaos of summer tourist season arrives. They had live music and tents with a bunch of local vendors and food trucks. We only stayed an hour or so but it was a lot of fun!
Can you tell what I was busy doing while spending so much time waiting last week? Lots of arrivals for the new build, including this bone inlay mirror for one of the bathrooms. It’s an extra 20% off right now as part of their Memorial Day sale! If you use code PERKS (rather than the general code on their site), you’ll also get free shipping. Even on furniture!! Not sure how long the code will last with the free shipping, but as of this morning, it’s still working.

Kurtis is now off to Chattanooga for most of the week for work. I’m glad we at least got one day together before his departure! We’re definitely looking forward to the upcoming long weekend!

Wondering if you recommend any ceiling fans for a coastal home? The wicker leaf ones aren’t my fav😀
Sarah says
Hi! I haven’t searched for any in a bit, but I do have this post! https://lifeonvirginiastreet.com/stylish-ceiling-fans/
Karen says
Things are rolling along! love all your choices esp the boho touch.
do you happen to know where your parents ball fountain is from.
Sarah says
Thank you! And my dad actually made that fountain 🙂 He used a basketball as the mold for the ball and covered it with concrete (with a tube run thru the center).

Good news on your Pops!! I love your posts and I said great office!!! To myself lol You have a nice family!
Sarah says
Thank you Karen!
Denise says
Happy to hear your dad is coming along! I’m sure your parents appreciated your being there with them.
I’m curious as to “season” where you are – we had a place in SW FL and tourists/season was basically Jan. thru April. For your season to be so much later is odd since the winter months aren’t as cold as up north. Lol, hope this makes sense.
Sarah says
Thanks Denise! Since we’re in the panhandle, most people don’t want to travel here in the winter (temps are usually in the 50’s or so). We personally love that it still has four season here (just less dramatic) but a lot of people that move to Florida want summer year round. Historically, spring break and the summer months are the busiest here since it’s the warmest months. Lots of families that come down with kids out of school!

So happy to hear your Dads surgery went well!
That’s a very big deal and can be pretty scary. Glad it’s behind you all now and he can start the healing process. Yea Dad!!!
