Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a great weekend! The heat that a lot of the country has been experiencing rolled in last week and we have another hot one ahead of us this week. Here’s a little bit of what we’ve been up to around here!

Home Projects & Updates

The fill for the pad for the pool house was added mid-last week! It totally changed the appearance of the space to see a “floor”. I’m using my wide-angle phone lens here to capture more of the space to show you, so it distorts everything a bit.

Our 16th anniversary was Thursday, and we got the best gift we could as for. A concrete pad! All of the dust and dirt had really started to take a toll on the pool, so the concrete was a huge step in helping us get it to clean up a lot more! The picture below is actually from last night, once we were able to get some of the green out of the pool 😉

I got this message on Instagram last week, and it made me laugh so hard I had to share it with you. My favorite part: “and bought blue things together”.

Kurtis spent a few hours Saturday morning cleaning up the pool deck. We actually hadn’t power washed out here yet with all the construction, so it was definitely in need of a good cleaning!

In other big news, my limelight hydrangeas started blooming last week! These next two pics look a little weird to me. I think the humidity was messing with my phone lens!

I feel like they’re actually blooming a few weeks early for me this year. Which is odd, because I feel like everything else in our yard is delayed!

Around Town & For Fun

Thursday was our 16 year anniversary! We may have a few more wrinkles, but we’re definitely not having any less fun! We had to get our obligatory selfie.

We went to a local favorite, Dante, and had dinner on their patio. I still stand by my statement that they make some of the best and most authentic Aperol Spritzes I’ve ever had in America. But for sure in Nebraska!

Kurtis ordered their seasonal Basilico pizza and said it may have been the best pizza he’s ever eaten in his life. And he considers himself a true pizza connoisseur, so that’s saying a lot! I mostly just wanted to take a picture because these are some of the coolest tomatoes I’ve ever seen!

Once we were done with dinner, we came home and let the cats test out the new concrete. It’s safe to say, they were pretty excited to have their old “patio” back! I also brought a piece of the flooring outside, because that’s what I do 😉

Henley is obsessed with this bedding set I shared last week. If she’s not eating or going to the bathroom, she’s likely in this spot!

Saturday we hosted our first official pool party since 2019! It was definitely super scaled back (only three other couples) but we couldn’t have had more fun if we tried. That fact it was National Tequila Day may have played into that a little. One of my sweet friends brought some flowers from the Farmer’s Market for me. They were so beautiful!

Our goddaughters, Zoe and Elle, finally got to use the cabana we bought Zoe for her first birthday! It was the first time Zoe showed interest in it, but she also only visited to swim once last year. She’s so tall for her age, it might now be Elle’s cabana 😉 Can you even stand the cuteness of these two?!

No matter how many times I tried to get Zoe to look at me while swimming, this is the best shot I got of her. She was always on the move and having such a blast swimming around!

The sign of a good party. This is what our backyard looked like the next morning. We don’t have lights back here right now with the construction, so everyone did their best to find their things but clearly everything from sunglasses to hats to shoes to towel to coolers were left. 😉 When we woke up the next day, we both agreed that already the pool house is going to be one of our best investments ever. Maybe not in the true sense of the word, but more so how much enjoyment we’ll get out of it with friends and family. We have so much more fun with our pool when we can share it with others! Don’t get me wrong – the relaxing solo is great too, but we enjoy it the most when others can also enjoy it!

I always laugh when I come across scenes like this one from Sunday. It’s like, how many cats can fit in a 2×2′ square!?!

Lots of excitement happening this week on the pool house. The guys are already here this morning to wrap up the interior framing and to start installing windows! Then we have family arriving later this week to stay with us through the weekend! It should be a fun one!
