Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

Our magnolia trees are blooming right now and are so gorgeous! I just wish the blooms lasted longer than they do!

I also have my first glimpse of some limes coming out on our little lime bush we bought. This is the largest lime we have so far, so clearly we have a little ways to go 😉

My planters are thriving in the humidity that’s rolled in. I’m determined to get back to the nursery sometime this week to get started on planters for the front yard! I used this favorite fertilizer on the flower pots and then this new organic fertilizer on the pots with our herbs and the citrus trees since we’ll be eating most of the items in those pots. Concrete planter found here. This is the pot that has the oleander topiary, wave petunias, sweet potato vine, and asparagus ferns. I have this old post with summer planter ideas if you’re interested!

I mentioned a few weeks back that Kurtis and I decided to sell one of our investment properties in Omaha to buy another smaller unit (likely a condo or townhome) down here to use as a short term rental. We finally closed on that house Friday, so Sunday we went and looked at a few properties with our realtors/friends! They gave us lots to think about, and we may go look at one or two other options, but I’m guessing we’ll be making an offer on something soon! I’ll be sure to share more, as most likely it’s going to require some renovation and/or major redecorating. Here are Rachel and I at one of the favorite spots we found.

I also had some really great summer home decor finds arrive last week, so once I can get them styled and photographed I’ll share more. But there are lots of really cute things out there right now for summer at a bunch of retailers!

Around Town & For Fun

We spent most of the week fighting off jet lag, and getting caught up on things at work and around the house. Thankfully by the end of the week, we were feeling good and back to more of a routine!

If you haven’t visited 30A in the last year or so, it has changed quite a bit! Particularly near Watersound Parkway, just outside of Alys Beach. There is an entire new beach community being built, Kaiya Beach, and the volume of construction and landscaping is pretty unreal. We rode our bikes to Raw & Juicy early one morning, and this was the view turning off Watersound Parkway heading east on 30A. All of these trees (all sides of the road) are new within the last year. It’s all so beautiful!

The jasmine is blooming around town and it is stunning! I’m determined to get some growing around our yard – the smell is just divine!

We headed down to the beach late one afternoon, and it was absolutely gorgeous. We’ve had a lot of rough water over the past few weeks, so it was nice to see it calm and back to its beautiful emerald color again!

There’s a really unusual sandbar down at the beach right now that hasn’t been there in the past. Kurtis found this really cool (conch?) shell at the base of it! We don’t usually get tons of shells in this area, and if we do they’re very small. So it was fun to find something so large, even if it was a bit beat up!

We hit our pool for a short bit on Saturday afternoon. This view from water level makes it look much larger than it is 😉 There are definitely a lot of pros and cons to having a much smaller pool than we had in Omaha!

We watched our show (finally watching Suits) and then a movie Saturday night, and looked over to see Hawkeye sleeping like this. He stayed like this for about half an hour. No idea how he found it comfortable! And despite it being nearly 80 degrees outside, Henley insists on the fire most nights.

If Henley’s not barking at us to turn on the fire (she’ll literally put her nose up to it and just howl), she’s at the back door begging to go out. She’s started using this bed that Bailey always used to prefer. But Henley could literally sit out here on the screened porch all day if we’d let her.

Late Sunday afternoon after house hunting, we went to Amigos to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with two other couples. This top was perfect for the occasion! They sent me a discount code (LIFEON15) for anything on their site if you’re interested!

After dinner, we sat on the green space at 30 Avenue and just hung out and chatted. It was such a beautiful evening!

I’m also still in my sourdough bread era. So much so, that when we got home last night, I forgot that I had dough ready and planned to bake bread that night. So, here I am finally pulling the loaf out of the oven at 10:45 last night. Not ideal. Ha! Still lots to learn, and our wild changes in humidity definitely affect each batch differently, but we’re still loving our fresh bread each week!

This week, one of my blogging besties is in town, so we’ll be having dinner with her. I also have a Ladies Night In on our party I’ll be attending, birthday drinks for a friend on Friday, and then an art class on Saturday morning. It should be a really fun week!

Sarah, love the idea of purchasing a condo near you!

Can you tell me more about the art class you will be taking?

Thank you Karen! And here is the class: https://thestudiogallery30a.com/products/watercolor-studio-session. It’s at a local gallery (so darling) and I’ve taken a collage class as well as an abstract class before with them. This time we’ll be doing watercolors and I believe we focus on seashells! Susie always does such a great job!

I click on #1 thinking it’s the planter since the planter is the first photo but nope, it’s a pillow. Why can’t you coordinate the numbers with the items?

Hi Anne! The products are all labeled in the graphic (above each product name) to correspond to the numbers below the graphic and counts down to #1. Here is the link to the planter if you were interested in that: https://rstyle.me/+3OImcjc_tsztJbGRHUaZTA.
