Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a great past few weeks. Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to lately!

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

My planters have already had some pretty impressive growth over the past few weeks. I used this favorite fertilizer on the flower pots and then this new organic fertilizer on the pots with our herbs and the citrus trees since we’ll be eating most of the items in those pots. Concrete planter found here.

I can’t wait to see how they continue to progress over the summer! Fluted resin planters found here. A huge shout out to our neighbor, Mac, who kept them watered and healthy while we were out of town last week!

Over the coming week or two, I really need to figure out what I’m going to do for planters in the front of our yard. And possibly by our garage. And possibly more for the backyard 😉

I also have lots of project ideas rolling around in my head to start the process of really decorating a few rooms in our home. I’ll be sharing more about those in the coming weeks.

Around Town & For Fun

It’s definitely feeling much more spring-like, and almost summer-like at times, around here! The frogs have been out in full force at night, and it’s pretty cool to hear them croaking so loudly at the pond across the street. They are loud. The stars are pretty incredible on less humid nights, too!

Henley continues to live her best porch life now that the nicer weather has moved in.

Hawkeye will join her occasionally but he prefers to follow me around. I bought him this pillow that’s intended for dogs to help with separation anxiety. He used to cuddle Bailey a lot, and at night he always sits with me on the sofa. So with our travels, I tried to get him used to this pillow for a little comfort. Jury is out on if he loves it or not, but some people really seem to have success with it!

Kurtis and I flew to Nice, France on the 18th of the month. We opted to spend three days in Cannes before transferring over to Monaco for the work portion of the trip.

The view from our room at Hotel Martinez in Cannes, France

I’ll plan to share a more in-depth post soon with what we did while we were there. But since 90% of the trip was planned by Kurtis’ company, that post will be a bit different since I didn’t do any of the research. But I’m happy to share what excursions we selected and participated in and where we ate, etc. while we were there since I know several of you are headed there in the coming months.

Antibes, France – one of the highlights of our trip!
A view of a fraction of the marina in Antibes, France

It was such a beautiful location, and his company does such a wonderful job planning everything. This trip was originally planned for 2021 but had to be rescheduled due to the pandemic. There were well over 100 people in our group (including spouses) for the incentive trip this year so it was a massive group. But so many of them feel like family after all of these years we’ve spent together and it’s always so fun to reunite!

A view of Hotel de Paris, where we stayed while in Monaco

I wore this dress for the awards ceremony night. There are only a few sizes left in the navy but there are three other color options. It was super comfy (I ordered the XL since there is zero stretch on the overlay) and is so beautiful in person! Worn with these comfy Target sandals, because you know I love a good high/low mix 😉

The weather was much cooler and rainier than was initially forecasted so I ended up wearing this trench coat almost daily. The hood saved me a few times!

A lookout point on one of our favorite excursions – driving classic and vintage cars along the French Riviera

Kurtis also turned 47 while on the trip! We opted not to sign up for any activities that day and then had a really great night out with friends. Shout out to our friend Melissa who managed to find a Mexican restaurant near our hotel so that Kurtis could celebrate his preferred way – with tacos and margaritas. It was such a fun night and he said one of his favorite birthdays ever!

In Monaco, with a view of the Prince’s Palace in the background on the left. Also seen – blue stadium seating for the E-Prix race that occurred the morning we left.

The cats had two really great sitters while we were away. It was fun to receive photos and videos of them while we were out of town. These were a few favorites from their first day with the sitter. Still a bit timid, but they both quickly came around! Henley and that dang box I can’t bring myself to throw away – she’s obsessed.

This week we plan to focus on getting back into our routine, fighting off jet lag, and giving the cats our full attention. Since we got home late Saturday night/Sunday morning, the cats haven’t left our sides. I think they’re ready for a little normalcy too!

Lastly, our hearts and prayers go out to our friends in Nebraska, Iowa and other parts of the Midwest after the devastating tornadoes and severe weather this past weekend. The massive tornado that hit Elkhorn, NE was only a few miles from our old home there. If you’re looking to support those affected, this list has some great options. We’ve personally donated and supported Orphan Grain Train and their mission for years and have family members that volunteer there weekly. If you’re local to the Omaha area, they are needing these items specifically, but you can also donate financially on their website. We still love the Omaha/Elkhorn community so much and pray for you all!
