Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning, and happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice fall weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to this past week, after our big move to Florida last week!

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

As I shared last week, our brother-in-law made the trek from Omaha to Florida with us, driving the big UHaul. He stayed with us for the entire week (more on that below) and then we flew back to Omaha with him on Friday. His “fee” for helping us was a few rounds of golf, which was more than generous of him. So, while he and Kurtis golfed, I was able to tackle quite a bit of unpacking!

But, let’s just say unpacking is still underway 😉 I was able to get a lot of boxes unpacked throughout the week, but it’s the process of deciding where we want things stored that seems to be taking the most time! I finally found that emptying every single box for the kitchen and setting it on the counter was the best move, so I could see what I was dealing with (rather than trying to load the cabinets as I went). We definitely see some opportunities for more efficient storage in our kitchen, so we’re hoping to implement those ideas sooner rather than later!

I’m happy to report I had the kitchen 98% of the way cleared before we left town on Friday, so that was a great feeling!

We also drove down the street where our new build will be. They have the forms up for nearly all of the remaning lots other than ours, so I’m hoping maybe that will start this week! It will be really fun to watch all of that unfold in person. This is our friends Rachel and Chris’ new spot only a few houses away from ours! The house next to them that you see on the right is actually the same floorplan that ours will be, so it’s been fun to watch that home’s progress, as well.

I’ll share more about our trip back to Omaha below, but here’s the stuff we had to re-home back at the old house over the weekend. It was mostly awkward items that didn’t fit on the truck at the end. Other items were “oh crap, we forgot to run this donation”. So, we re-homed several items to friends and family and then made a donation run to get rid of the last of it!

Around Town & For Fun

With our brother-in-law in town for most of the week last week, it gave us the chance to play tourists for a bit in the evenings! He had visited back in January, when my sister-in-law and he vacationed at Hola Beaches with his mom. But it’s definitely a different experience in October, and we wanted to take him to a few of our favorite places that he didn’t get to the first time he was here.

One night, we had to make a last-minute plan change, and ended up at Bruno’s Pizza. We had only been once before and thought it was good, but it was winter and there wasn’t much ambiance inside. This time around, we sat out back and had such a great night! Everything we ordered was fantastic, and our brother-in-law Pat was ecstatic to find a pizza with all his favorite meats (basically differing degrees of pork). It was a happy change of plans and we’re glad it happened!

If you ever come to 30A, you have to go to Old Florida Fish House. There is no other word to describe it other than “magical”.  This was only our second time ever going, but we loved it every bit as much as our first time, and just reaffirmed what a special place it is!

The cats have seemingly adjusted as well as possible at this point. I think they’re still wondering if this is where we live now or if it’s just temporary. One thing is certain – they are loving the “catio”! In the mornings when it’s cooler, I’ll just leave the door open for them so they can come and go as they please. I think Bailey especially loves that the brick gets warm. I find her sleeping out here quite frequently.

Friday morning, we left Florida bright and early with our brother-in-law to fly back to Omaha. It was our friend’s birthday weekend, and we had left town the day before our goddaughter’s second birthday, so we flew back for the weekend. Kurtis had to be there for work this week, regardless, so the timing worked out well!

The girls were definitely happy to see Uncle Kurty! We stayed at our BFFs house for the weekend and Zoe was so happy we got to have two sleepovers in a row.

My mom and my godmothers were coincidentally in Omaha visiting our family friends for the weekend, too! So, Kurtis and I headed over for a few hours Saturday morning to see them all. These four ladies were roommates in nurses training and are still friends to this day! I love that they still plan girls’ trips together and I’m happy we got to crash this one!

Kurtis and I then had to do some last minute clean-ups at the house before heading to our friend’s birthday celebration.

We met in the afternoon at Ady’s, since the birthday boy wanted a football and beer day for his birthday. We only stayed for a few hours and then took the party back to their house for pizza and a few more friends to join us. It was such a fun day, and a great way to see as many people as possible!

Sunday morning we took the birthday boy out to breakfast at First Watch. We then wrapped up a few things at the house before swinging over to my sister-in-law and brother-in-law’s house for another round of hugs. We’re already looking forward to all of their visits in December!

And we can’t say thank you enough to our cat sitters, Rachel and Mac! It’s been a lot for the cats these past few months, so we felt much better knowing they were in good hands! Bailey always loves to meet new friends.

It was a super quick trip for me to Omaha, staying almost exactly 48 hours. But it was such a fun weekend and I’m so glad we made it work. Kurtis stayed behind for some events he has at work this week. I think these three were pretty happy for me to be home last night! They were my little shadows all night while I worked on the computer.

I’m looking forward to wrapping up as much of the unpacking this week as possible, and trying to get things settled as much as possible. It will be great finally getting started on our new Florida routines!
