Home Projects & Updates
My Incrediball hydrangeas are truly incredible this year! Some of the blooms are legitimately the size of my head – which is saying a lot!
My blue hydrangeas that we had planted around the pool house last year are finally starting to bloom too! It’s fun to see a new pop of color out here!
I talk so much about how much I love the mandevilla trellises we have that I seem to be neglecting my love for the lobelia (the small blue flowers), as well. I haven’t used it much in my planters in the past, but it is so beautiful, and has been blooming non-stop since I bought it in April!
I worked on some more packing over the weekend. This time I focused on our storage room. The totes below are what I’ll be taking with us in August, since I shouldn’t need any Christmas decor before then 😉 But we also dropped-off two full carloads of donations which makes the packing process seem much less overwhelming. We’re just trying to chip away at it all, bit by bit!
We also booked our UHaul for August! That will be Part I of the move before we officially head down in October. But I about choked when I saw how expensive a one-way moving truck is! Add on gas prices, and it definitely isn’t cheap to DIY the move. So I can only imagine how much it would be to hire professional movers! But I did want to put in a plug for our Walmart+ membership. I’ve been using it to order packing and supplies (and groceries) when I’m busy in the day. But they’ve also recently added a gas discount benefit with up to $.10 off a gallon at over 14k stations nationwide. We’ve found ourselves using the membership even more frequently these past few months as prices on everything continue to skyrocket. I’ve been a long-time advocate of shopping apps, but theirs is the only one I know of that honors in-store pricing and doesn’t spike it as a convenience fee. Just wanted to throw that out there if you’ve considered it! We love ours and you can get a free 30-day trial membership with my link if you want to test it out!

I’m still trying hard to wrap up a summer home tour soon. I had some new arrivals show up last week. I mentioned the faux palm branch in my Wednesday Watch List, but I also ordered this set of frames and think they’re so cute!

Around Town & For Fun
We had to make some changes to the cats’ food about a week ago, and poor Henley had a reaction. She’s been battling this her whole life, but some foods will cause edema on her lip/chin. It happened over the 4th of July weekend so we took her to the vet early last week. It’s usually resolved pretty quickly with some steroids.
But she’s definitely known for being a little dramatic 😉
Speaking of animals, I was up late one night last week to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I ran out to the pool house for something, and thought I could see something small swimming around. I assumed it was a frog, but upon closer inspection, realized it was a vole! It was swimming around in a panic and couldn’t get out. Kurtis was already in bed, so I couldn’t force him to deal with it. Ha! But, I was able to scoop him out and set him free. Definitely a first for me!
Last week, our goddaughter Zoe and I had a date to do some back-to-school shopping and then lunch. She was so fun to shop with, and I’m pretty sure she would have put the entire store in our cart if I allowed it. We then had lunch at “Old McDonald’s” per her request. She told me her favorite finds were her unicorn belt (in this 3-pack) and her “golden shoes“!
Friday night, we had Kurtis’ sister and brother-in-law over for dinner and cards. Before they left, we stepped out back for a bit to enjoy the weather. Hawkeye and Bailey love when they can join the party!
The moon has been so bright this past week! And the light from the pool house reflecting on the waterfalls was so pretty too!
I finished this book last night and really enjoyed it! Although it’s fiction, it is loosely based on John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, but it’s really sweet and a good read! This picture looks a bit odd because I had to turn on the wide-angle (it was taken over my shoulder), but these two are never mad when I spend a little time reading! I was laughing at Hawkeye holding Bailey’s tail down!
Saturday night we finally went and saw the new Top Gun. Although I’m from the original generation that loved it, I think I watched it too late in life to really appreciate it. So it was never my favorite. But we really enjoyed the new one! We both said it was one of the best movies we’d seen in awhile (granted, not much to compare to). We were glad we took the time to see it in the theater too. It had been ages since we’d been to a theater, and we forgot that most are all fancy chairs and recliners now!
Sunday, after doing some purging and packing, we spent a few hours in the backyard. The weather has been a bit odd for July in Nebraska (it rained multiple days last week, which is unheard of). So we took advantage of the sun and the heat!

Kurtis has to head into the office a day this week, so I’m hoping I can use that time to crank out some photos for my summer home tour! It’s always a bit easier when I don’t have a mini tornado leaving a trail of dishes wherever he goes 😉
Tomorrow I’m planning to share some Prime Day favorites, as well as other sales from around the internet. It seems that Prime Day has now turned into a thing for multiple retailers as they all try to compete with Amazon (some even start today if you peruse the section below). Look for Target to be a huge competitor, with sales already starting today! I’m here for all the sales!

I’m sure going to miss you being in Omaha I love all your local content. I will have to make note of the purple flowers. My planters have the sweet potato vines you suggested a few years ago
Sarah says
Thank you Joni! We’ll miss Omaha too! I think you’d really like the lobelia. I was shocked by how well they’re doing this year. The petunias are always great too, but require SO much water!
Jessica says
Love your nighttime yard pic, looks so lush and dramatic! Hope Henley feels better!
Sarah says
Thank you so much! And she seems to be improving daily 🙂
Anne Davis says
EVERY pool owner should have an escape route in their pool for small animals to get out. You can buy one for next to nothing and rest assure you won’t find a drowned animal in the pool in the morning.
Sarah says
We’ve used a frog log (which was guaranteed to get small animals out). Although we couldn’t see which animals escaped (we’re hoping there were some), we still had some that didn’t regardless of our best efforts :/ I’m happy to try any successful alternative you may have heard of!
Kristine Thompson says
The blue hydrangeas are beautiful! What is the tree that they are planted under? It looks like you get shade and wouldn’t have to rake leaves!!! Win Win …. We live at Beaver Lake so I know it would work in our climate.
Good luck in all the packing, NOT a fun job.
Sarah says
Thank you so much! And that tree is a bald cypress. We have a handful and love them so much! Apparently they’re native to the Everglades but do really well here if you have an area that gets a lot of water. They can actually help a bit with drainage! But I should not that it is one of the few coniferous trees that does lose it’s needles. They’re fairly easy to rake up, but it can be a bit messy in the fall when it does happen!
