Good morning! Is anyone else as excited as I am that it’s officially spring now?! Bring on the warmer weather! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to this past week.

Home Projects & Updates
Over the weekend, Kurtis got a wild hair to finally build out my side of the closet. You may recall, as part of the pool house project, we had the option to expand our closet (which was previously very small by today’s standards). Since it was a now-or-never type situation with the changing rooflines, we decided to go forward with it and solve one of the biggest detriments to our home. It’s rather large, because we just had to go with the space where the natural rooflines would meet. So much potential! The new space has been finished for months, but, when it came time to order closet systems we stalled. So I essentially haven’t had a closet since July or so. Most of my clothes have been on a six foot folding table in the space, while some of my shirts are hanging in our old closet.
We got bids from multiple places, but to be honest, the quotes were pretty crazy, took months and months to arrive, and honestly, we didn’t love any of the plans. So, Kurtis decided on Saturday that he was going to build it out on Sunday. I had gotten so used to not having a closet, so I basically said go for it!
He headed to Menards and found supplies to replicate what is in our other closets. For $143 it came together pretty dang quickly! The box in the middle is the access to our HVAC system in the pool house living room ceiling. So, I’ll plan to use that section for long hanging clothes.
Henley approves!
The reality is, we’ve lived like this since July(?ish) so it feels kind of surreal to have a project like this underway. I was used to my 6′ folding table and half a closet for clothes. So it’s pretty exciting to get this underway so quickly! All the install is basically done. Now I just need to caulk/fill/paint this week and she’ll be good to go!
We’ll eventually figure out some shelving for folded clothes and shoes, but for now, this is such an improvement! And the great news is, if we ever decide to go custom down the road, we can reuse the $143 worth of supplies in our basement or elsewhere in the house. Kurtis said he’ll work on a supply list and mini tutorial for those interested. It was a super quick project and only required my help when he needed to lift the full-length pieces into place.
While Kurtis was hard at work on the closet, I was doing a few projects of my own in the den! I had actually gone in to sort out which pillows I wanted to use around the house for spring. But then I decided to hang the curtains I’ve had since summer and play around with new art/a gallery wall.

I feel like Kurtis rarely listens to me ramble on about project plans until I start hauling out the drill and hammer. Suddenly he then has all the questions that should have been asked months ago 😉 I’ll share the updated space soon once it’s all wrapped up. It’s basically just tasks I had planned to do since last fall and never got around to.
My best little “helper” and supervisor. She doesn’t love change, but she’s there every step of the way supervising me to make sure I do it her way!
I also brought out these spring flowers I shared in my Wednesday Watch List! The pic looked great on my phone, but now I’m realizing on my computer that since it was in portrait mode, it blurred out some of the stems and buds. So this is kind of what it looks like 😉 But I love how pretty and organic these feel for spring and summer! I am only using one of the bouquets here.

I’m excited to hopefully wrap up the closet this week and get all my clothes into place! I’m also hoping to wrap up even more of spring so I can finally photograph a spring home tour (I skipped last year’s)!

In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past two weeks, in case you missed some days!
Following are the most read blog posts of last week (excluding any of the new posts already mentioned above). Many times this includes old posts that are popular on Google or Pinterest.
Around Town & For Fun
With our travels back from Florida and the time change, it honestly felt like a very long week. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t have any fun during those long times!
Tuesday night, we met Kurtis’ sister and brother-in-law for dinner at Lazlo’s. Since we wrapped up pretty early, we headed to our house to enjoy a drink in the pool house bar. It was the FIRST time it was used as intended and it was so fun to experience, even if for a short time before the sun went down. It’s getting us even more excited for summer than we typically are!
We also had our mulch refreshed early in the week (we used Innovative Outdoors, if you’re local, and were very happy with their work!). The weather was beautiful so the cats got to enjoy their new patio space. Hawkeye definitely thinks he owns the joint!
It was so great to open the windows and doors for an hour or two!
It’s not spring in Nebraska if two turkeys don’t set off your security cams when they intrude in your backyard 😉 Kurtis yelled down at me a few days ago to ask if those were turkeys on the cameras. By the time I could locate them, they were taking a casual stroll down the sidewalk. No big deal!
Another sign of spring – the light changing and creating the best glow in our home at various times of day. It’s definitely not winter any longer!
I also spotted some day lilies sprouting around our yard! Definitely not sad about this at all!
Saturday night, we had our annual corned beef and cabbage meal with our BFFs and goddaughters. I asked Zoe to show me the party decorations, that her cousins helped her with, and she was pretty proud!
The food, per usual, was incredible, even if it’s not the most photogenic 😉 Kurtis officially declared it his second favorite meal of the year after Thanksgiving.
My favorite budget faux cherry blossom stems are finally back in stock, just in time for spring! You get three stems for about half the cost of one stem at Pottery Barn! I have two sets (for a total of six stems) in the vase below.

Definitely looking forward to spring and the nicer weather ahead! I’m feeling motivated to get a bunch of projects done before summer rolls around, too!

HI:
The chest that is in your best sellers for the week ( from Walmart), did you purchase? How is the quality for the price? Thank you
Sarah says
Hi Marianne! Yes, we’ve owned it for four or five years and are really happy with it. It sells out pretty frequently. It used to be in our entryway but now it’s in my office. You can see it in the first picture of this home tour: https://lifeonvirginiastreet.com/2020-spring-home-tour/.

Hi Sarah!
I looked around but couldn’t find what color blue you painted your pool house island?
Sarah says
Hi Jenn! It’s Benjamin Moore Santorini Blue 🙂
