Home Projects & Updates
It’s hard to believe we closed on our house two months ago this week! We’ve only lived here about six weeks, and we were traveling for two of that, so it all still feels very new. Not to mention we still have crews coming in and out most days to wrap up various tasks here and there.
Shortly after I published my July recap, the crew arrived to install our generator. We were without internet and power for most of a day while they did the install. Now we’re still waiting on the inspection so they can come back and officially have it up and running. Nearly a month later :/
I shared a tighter view of our living room in this post, but here you can see it a little further out. The art I ordered for this space arrives this week, so once we get it hung, I’ll plan to photograph it all and share a full reveal of the living room (and probably dining room). Since this photo was taken, our windows coverings also arrived and we got those installed! I also need to order drapes for the sliders, but that hasn’t been a huge priority yet.

And here’s a similar view in the evening, when the cats take over on my sofa. I think one of my favorite things about our new home is the view out the back. The trees, the pond, and the beautiful sunset colors are the absolute best! I need to go look for a fireplace insert so we can get the fireplace up and running this fall!

We have yet to receive our bed, but the cats got their bed pretty quickly. Always such a process when assembly isn’t included, but this one went pretty quickly with both of us working on it.
We’ve had the box springs for a week or two, but just haven’t gotten around to putting it together with all our recent travel. I still need to find a light fixture for this room too, but it certainly isn’t high on the priority list right now (especially since the room also has can lights).

We’ve been wrapping up little projects here and there. We ordered the same flag pole and flag that we had at our last house. Nothing fancy, but we like the functionality of the flag pole. I need to text the builder today to get the lockbox off our house, because yes, it’s still there. Our new door handles are supposed to be installed on both of these doors, as well, this week. The ones currently installed are the ones that come standard with hurricane doors, but we ordered ones to match our interior door handles better.

I had another Pottery Barn delivery a few weeks back! It included this dresser for our entryway, my office storage cabinets, and the remaining outdoor dining chairs. I’m still waiting on our bed, guest bed, outdoor dining table, and a console table for the mud room. Slowly but surely it’s all coming together! I decided pretty quickly the dresser was too tight in this location so we moved it to the opposite wall so it’s not in the walkway when the door opens.

We also installed a window shade on our front door (much needed or it feels like we’re in a fishbowl at night) and the mirror for above the dresser. We also hung this palm art in my office. It’s another piece we’ve owned for ages (it came from our Omaha house) but we had to leave it behind with the sale of our last home. But I ordered it again because it’s still a favorite!

We finally got some time to use our pool this past month. I think I’ve already used it more than all the times I used the pool at our last house. It’s pretty wild! I found our market umbrellas on sale for the upcoming holiday weekend!

As of last week when I was out of town, our carriage house was fully wrapped up from the water leak we had. So, that means we can finally start putting that back together and I can get it photographed for you once we do!

Around Town & For Fun
It was a super busy month with house things and travel, but it was also such a great month!
Speaking of time at the pool… those of you lucky enough to witness the video saw that Henley fell in the pool. It’s still the craziest thing ever to us. It hasn’t been uncommon the last year or so for her to beg to let me let her out of the screen porch (at this house and our prior one). I then just take a little stroll with her for five or ten minutes as she explores. This particular day was our first official pool day at this house and she wouldn’t stop crying while we were out on the lounge chairs. I finally let her out and casually was walking around with her and literally said “can you even imagine if she fell in”. But it was a total joke because she smelled the water and then continued on her way. Well, then Kurtis called to her from the chairs and she must have blacked out because she made a diagonal beeline for him and walked right into the pool. Our Ring cameras caught it all and once I knew she was okay, I literally couldn’t stop laughing when I watched it (nor could half of the internet). Kurtis had her out in a matter of seconds, so I don’t even think she really understood what happened. She was mostly just mad about the bath she had to take to get the salt and chlorine off of her!
Our friend Liz was visiting from Austin and she requested a dinner date at Old Florida Fish House! I’ll never turn down that request!
Mid-month, we flew to Salt Lake to spend time with my parents. Kurtis had a work meeting there the following week so we decided to piggy back on that trip to visit them. We spent a lot of time in their backyard which is always a favorite of mine! Notice they were influenced to buy the Walmart patio furniture we’ve owned and loved so much!
It’s always fun to spend time with their sweet Bernadoodle, Bella!
We were fortunate to be visiting when Snowbird had their Oktoberfest going on! We used to attend almost annually if we were in Utah for my birthday, so it was fun to go back for a few hours. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day!
One of my cousins had a sweet baby girl when I was in 9th grade and we would watch her quite a bit through my high school years. She and my mom would visit me the first few years I lived in Omaha. Well, that baby girl has grown up and has been married for six or seven years and now has a little boy about the age I remember spending so much time with her! They came up to the house to visit us with their sweet dog Apollo. It was so fun to see her as a mom and meet her sweet little boy (who was born when we were on the river cruise last year for my mom’s 70th birthday)! Unfortunately I didn’t get a great picture to share since everyone was constantly in motion and it was a bit of a blur 😉
The day we had to bring Kurtis up to Park City for his meeting, his sister also flew into town to attend, as well. Which meant that we could snag her from the airport, spend a few hours at my parents’ house, and then all grab lunch together in Park City. It was a fun bonus to the trip since I hadn’t seen her since the spring time when they were down visiting!
Kurtis was in Utah a few days longer than I was. One evening I had a girls’ dinner to say goodbye to our friend Jess who moved to Germany for a few years. I literally could not stop laughing at this picture. It looks like AI dropped Rachel and I onto a picture of our tiny little friends. And yes, Rachel and I unknowingly showed up to dinner in the same floral top. It’s a cute one! I’m wearing it with these jeans, which are on major sale now with the extra 40% off.
We always love a fun Friday night in the summer! And a little hula hoop competition post-Amigos!
I wore the below outfit, adding this cute rope belt I had picked up at Becasa, a local store, a few months back. Kurtis said it reminded him of something Jesus would wear. Okay… ha! I told him it was nautical and he said he’d never seen a sailor wear a rope before, so I guess he had a point.

We made a point of heading to the beach for the first time in probably two months. It was honestly kind of ridiculous that it had been that long since we went. But with packing, moving and unpacking, it felt like the timing was never right. The day we went, one of the dune lakes had just broken into the Gulf, so the water was a bit brown close to shore, but still such a beautiful day!
Last week I spent most of the week in Dallas for the LTK Conference. Rachel and I were able to travel together which always makes it more fun! Here I am with a fun group of ladies at the Quince coastal-themed party.

Now that we’re seeing a tiny bit of reprieve from the heat and humidity, the cats are enjoying more time out on the catio. We’re still waiting on the outdoor dining table we ordered, so once that’s here, I think we’ll be spending even more time out here! You can see my plans for the space here.
Our limelight hydrangeas are going wild right now and I couldn’t be happier! I can’t wait until these shrubs continue to grow and get established. I see lots of hydrangea arrangements in my future!
We looked at our calendars last night and realized neither has to travel again for nearly a month. We have no plans, no visitors, and no trips for a whole month and as much as we enjoy all of those things, we’re looking forward to a little downtime!
