Although we closed on our new home a few days before the 4th of July, we didn’t officially move in until last week. Today I thought I’d share a few updates along with some quick iPhone pics of our new home!

Last I left off in this post, our biggest hurdle for moving was the arrival of some of our furniture. Since we sold our last home fully furnished and decorated, we literally had nowhere to sit, sleep, etc. But within hours of publishing that post, I received a phone call from both Serena & Lily and Pottery Barn to schedule most of my orders. The best part was S&L could come the next day and Pottery Barn, that Saturday.
The Serena & Lily delivery team had emailed me ahead of time a list of the items they were delivering. I had two open orders with them and the items they were bringing weren’t the ones I was wanting most quickly. However, when they showed up, they actually had all of the items from both of my orders! A happy surprise! Most important to me was getting our counter stools, nightstands and dresser, over some of the more decorative items or ones that wouldn’t be used right away. So, it was a fun delivery day!

The cats have handled things pretty well. We kept them in their “bedroom” (where their litter boxes are) for the first two nights overnight while we slept, but then let them roam as they wished after that. The catio didn’t get completed until Thursday so it was fun to let them explore that space once it was ready. Henley has also discovered how fun it is to watch the activity outside my office window from the sofa. Hawkeye had his first encounter with an angry bird that sat and chirped at him from the fence post one evening.

We have yet to receive a single bed (and ours just got backordered again until late September). So the bedrooms all have frat house vibes. Clearly it doesn’t bother Henley. And honestly, as many steps as we’ve both put in the past few weeks, we’re just happy to have a comfy mattress to sleep on at night!

We said goodbye to our prior home on Friday, and turned the keys over to the new owners. It’s always a bittersweet moment to do so, but we’re excited for the new family to move in and for us to make new memories in our new home! Once the temps cool a bit in the evenings, we’ve been trying to sit outside for a bit.

Friday Kurtis had a meeting with the pool company to learn how to work the system. I managed to get one umbrella up but then got pulled in a bunch of other directions, with our builder sending a few crews over to wrap up some items. And yes, our chaise lounge chairs are still covered in plastic 😉

Saturday, an insurance inspector had to come to our home for our insurance policy. When she arrived she saw Hawkeye and basically panicked and said all pets had to be removed from the premises. A little heads up would have been nice 😉 So we took the cats to the screened in porch, and you’d think it’s torture for them when we aren’t there or it isn’t their choice to go out. I swear Hawkeye was trying to figure out how to open the sliding door.

We were able to get Kurtis’ rug and desk moved into his office over the weekend. There were some paint touch-ups that needed to occur first, and then it needed to be cleaned because of the overspray dust. But once we get it all fully put together, it’s going to be such a great space for him! I also can’t wait until our rugs start relaxing and some of the wrinkles come out 😉

Now for a little taste of reality. As we brought more items over from the old house throughout the week, what once felt organized and cleaned, turned into chaos pretty quickly. But I’m happy to report most spaces look significantly better now after some dedicated focus on Saturday and Sunday.

Selling your home fully furnished and decorated gives a bit of a false sense of preparedness. Every time we went back to the old house we’d find more stuff we forgot in random cabinets. My office needs the most help at this point! You can see my design plans with sources here.

We still have a ways to go and some more furniture that needs to arrive, and then the fun decorating can begin! You can see our dining room and living room design plans here.

I stuffed my first pillow cover in the new house! We found these chairs to be a lot deeper than expected, so the pillow was the perfect addition and coordinates well with the sofas.

We hope to be 100% unpacked by the end of the week, and then I’m excited to start spending more time designing each of the spaces beyond the essentials. Lots more to share soon!

It’s truly already amazing, so can’t wait for more reveals in the future. I was curious about why the insurance person said you had to get all animals out of the house. Very strange!
Thank you! And I have no idea! It was so bizarre.
Seriously. The insurance person was afraid of a cat??? Wow. Just WOW!
She literally seemed terrified. It was so odd!
Congratulations! Your new home is beautiful.
Thank you Lynn!
Strange reaction about your cute kitty, can’t wait to see it all pulled together! Very exciting!
Thank you Jessica!
