Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a nice weekend and that warmer weather is finally headed your way. Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to around here!

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

Last week, the weather warmed up quite a bit, so I took it as my sign to go buy some plants! I ran to Panama City Beach and found some winners at Walmart! I bought jasmine, an orange tree, a palm, basil and some mandevilla. I can’t even tell you how heavenly the car smelled on the way home!

I also hit up a few local stores on the way home, including Maison 30A, and man, I am going to have way too much fun at that store when our house is done. Just look at all those gorgeous planters!

Here are two of the designer look for less fluted planters I shared recently. I can’t get enough of them and actually ordered one for our front porch too! Since they’re resin, unlike the $149 concrete versions at Pottery Barn, they are fairly mobile, even once they’re filled. But definitely heavy enough to likely not ever blow over. I also found this cute little ceramic tabletop planter that looks so cute with the set and filled it with basil (which is something we use multiple times a week).

I also swept out the “catio”, washed down all the screen frames, and got it back in shape for the beautiful weather headed this way! Side note: these swivel chairs we’ve had for going on four years now are currently $100 off for the set AND they released a second color option for the wicker! I’m not sure how long the sale will last so I wanted to mention it ASAP!

Bailey still can’t get enough of this space!

I ordered the ‘light green’ version of the faux hydrangeas I shared last week, and I’m loving them every bit as much as the white! Can you tell I’m prepping for a spring home tour?! 😉

I shared this striped ottoman coffee table in last week’s Wednesday Watch List as part of McGee & Co’s big tent sale and ours arrived rather quickly! Unfortunately it has since sold out, but wanted to mention the sale again, because there are still some great pieces available and I think the sale may end today!

Swinging over to the new build, all of our interior walls got insulation! Next they’ll just have to spray foam the exterior walls, and then I imagine the sheet rock and shiplap will follow rather quickly now that the inspections are all done.

The rest of our windows all came in, as well. Notice one slight problem with these carriage house windows? The one on the right is the proper one (that matches the rest of the house). I’m hoping they’ve already realized the issue and installed it so they could continue working inside. But I’ll also be following up today to make sure a new one is on the way 😉

They also dryfit the Trex decking for our back deck (the boards still need to be attached) and framed out the firebox for our fireplace in the cabana! Things are moving along!

Around Town & For Fun

We were able to make it down to the beach one afternoon last week and it was wonderful! The temps have finally started to rise, and despite some haze and fog most mornings, several of the afternoons were gorgeous!

We headed over to Grayton Beach one day and visited my favorite little art gallery, then had lunch at Chiringo’s. It was our first time and we really enjoyed it! Kurtis said the Cuban sandwich was one of his favorites ever! We just love visiting each of the cute towns along 30A because they all have such distinct personalities and vibes!

On our way home, we drove through Seaside to do a little shopping and visit the new Pickle’s Sand Bar. It really is the most charming little town, and I always find a goodie or two at any of the Seaside stores.

In random life event news that I promised to keep you all posted on: after nearly 18 months, we’ve decided to get a second car again. I think a lot of people are actually shocked we made it this long. I would even argue, some assumed we wouldn’t make it even three months 😉 It’s been pretty great not having that extra car payment for a year and a half, but it’s time. With Kurtis’ work travel picking up (and me hating the 4 am airport dropoff departures), and us being so much more active down here (not to mention “quick” errands being so much further away), we’ve been ready for a bit. After living here for about six full months now, we also have quickly realized how much sand we drag in the car. So, we knew a Jeep or Bronco or something a little more rugged would be fun and more fitting for the area. Saturday we drove to Panama City to do some test drives and found a used Bronco we both fell in love with. It was a rather quick process (I think because we’ve known for some time what we wanted and that we needed to move forward). After lunch at Uncle Ernie’s, which came highly recommended, we decided to move forward. We won’t pick up the Bronco until tomorrow, but we’re very excited! It feels like we’re “officially” Floridians now!

In cat news, they have a running water fountain as well as a bowl that we clean multiple times a day. But sometimes they just really want some water out of the sink. All at once 😉

Sunday morning, we headed to the bay side of the area, and had brunch at North Beach Social! Another first time visit for us and we’ll definitely be back. As I mentioned, the mornings have been super humid and foggy, but it was still so beautiful sitting outside.

Last week was a nice little lull in the spring break schedules (which is why we tried to go so many places), but everything is back in full force this week, so we’ll probably be at home a lot more! We’re actually headed to Omaha and Iowa for Easter to visit family and friends so we’re really looking forward to that! My side of the family all visits at the end of April for a family friend’s wedding in Navarre, so April is going to be a busy month for us.

I need to get a better pic when we pick it up! It was tough the day we saw it because they were washing all the cars around it 😉 But it’s the Outer Banks package with the Sasquatch upgrade. I think we got pretty lucky because it had just been turned in a few days prior and we just happened to drive by and see it. We had no idea how long the wait was on new ones until we talked to them!

Questions if you have some time…
What is the yellow building material used on the new house exterior? Just curious.
Also, on the swivel chairs, could you tell me the seat width between the arms? I don’t see that anywhere online.

It’s just the siding I believe (they use Hardi board). Not sure why some is gray and some is yellow though. It will all be getting painted the same color shortly 🙂 In regards to the chairs, that width is 24″, so fairly roomy. I can usually sit there and a cat manages to wedge in on the side between me and the arm!

    Hi Sarsh,

I enjoy all of your posts, I enjoy watching your new house progress and I enjoy any and all cat stories. Your cats drinking out of your bathroom sink resonates with me, although out of the three cats I have, my orange tabby is the only one that does.

Thank you so much, Sue! She is definitely the one that is most interested in it, but the other two always seem to feel the need to join in 😉
