Sharing a collection of modern coastal living room chairs in a variety of finishes! See which ones we considered for our living room and which we ultimately chose!
Slowly but surely, we’ve been trying to knock out items on our 2021 Home Goals List! Last week, I finally found my dream living room chairs and placed the order! The next day one of our windows started leaking and caused damage in our garage and our washing machine decided to drain on the floor. So, I consider it fate that I bought them before the chaos ensued or I may have been vetoed 😉 Today I’m sharing the chairs we bought along with all of the modern coastal living room chairs we looked at over the past half a year or so.

Our Current Living Room Chairs & What We’re Looking For
As I’ve shared over the past year or so, we’ve slowly been on the hunt for new living room chairs.
You may remember when we first moved in this house over eight years ago, we had leather chairs in our living room. They were super comfy Bernhardt finds that we brought over from our prior home. They sat in our living room for several years, but were always way too big, as we had bought them for our open concept floorplan in our prior house. So a few years ago, we replaced them.
The spindle chairs we have seem to overall be good quality. But the fabric I chose (Bevin Natural) has not held up well at all – especially compared to the performance fabric on our sofas. It super hard to clean because of the weave (we have one stain we can’t get out) and it’s starting to pill badly.
After Kurtis’ hip surgery last year, he seems to be using the chairs more frequently and while they’re fairly comfy, you wouldn’t want to lounge in them for hours on end. Add in the fact that Henley loves to sleep on the back of one of them, and the poly-filled cushion isn’t cutting it any longer. We would love to do a swivel or glider, but the truth is, we just don’t have room for either. I also just feel like we need to add some warmth to the space, as you can see in the image below from last year’s summer home tour. And I’m still wanting something with a slightly modern-leaning coastal vibe!
LIVING ROOM SOURCES: Striped Rug | Linen Sofas | Spindle Chairs | Embroidered Blue Pillow | Striped Lumbar Pillow | Solid Linen Pillow | Striped Throws | Raffia Coffee Table | Similar Wood Chain | Similar Vase | Faux Greenery Stems | Woven Stools | Oversized Palm Art | Gallery Wall Frames (similar here) | Dough Bowl | Lamps | Frame TV | Faux Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree | Seagrass Basket
Modern Coastal Living Room Chairs We Considered
Following are some of the modern coastal living room chairs we considered over the past several months. Click on any of the images below to learn more about each of the chairs shown. These are all definitely more “investment” level chairs. As I mentioned, I’ve quickly learned over the past several years that fabric selection is super critical if you’re wanting something to last more than a handful of years. I love that so many of these have really unique and beautiful backs! And if you’re patient enough, you can catch most of these on sale occasionally throughout the year!
Living Room Chairs We Ordered
We ultimately decided we either needed a performance fabric option or a leather option we could both agree upon. When my friend Monica at Amethyst Home sent out her recent newsletter with some new arrivals, these chairs stopped me in my tracks. They were exactly what we had been looking for! Far too many of the lighter leathers I looked at leaned really orange, but this one is much more neutral and I love the light ash wood!
The view from the back is what really made up my mind for me! I love how unique it is. Monica also said they are really comfy, which is important to us.
And although Amethyst Home is a local shop I love to support, they also have a shop in Kansas City and ship nationally! Everyone that works there is so sweet and helpful, and they’ll even help Photoshop some of their pieces into your home so you can see how it will look prior to committing! It can be especially helpful when it comes to all the gorgeous rugs they sell. They also have a Live Chat feature on their website that literally goes to their cell phones so you know you’re not chatting with a bot.
I’ll keep you posted when the chairs arrive. Thankfully the lead time on these is only about 3-4 weeks and I ordered them the beginning of last week. So I’m guessing they’ll be here in early April!

Great chair selections! The link for the two chairs on the
far left in the upholstered off white with wood based do not seem to be working. I am looking to replace chairs in my living room and think these would look really good. Can you relink, if not too much trouble?
Thank you Diane! Those chairs are both from Studio McGee but their links seem to be broken today on my platform (I know they were working yesterday). I’ll report the issue so hopefully they’ll start working again ASAP. I appreciate you letting me know!
Thank you!!!
So funny, I just ordered these same chairs for my living room. Waiting for them to arrive. I loved the back, too. I hope we both like them!!
Thanks for all those wonderful recommendations. We’re in the market for new chairs and this post came at the perfect time.
Love your decor we have very similar taste❤️
Nice chair. Looks comfortable and modern.
Love your posts! I can’t seem to find any links for the chairs? Maybe because it’s an older post?
Hi! Sorry for the delay! If you just click the images for any of the chairs, they are linked and will take you to the product 🙂
