Home Projects & Updates
Thursday we made the trek to Lynn Haven to go to the plumbing fixture showroom. When I tell you there are a lot of options and a lot of decisions, there were a lot.
In the kitchen, Kurtis finally agreed to a bridge faucet, but only because we found one with an integrated sprayer. This is from Delta (the Renaldi faucet).

In our bathroom, we’ll likely use one of these two options from Brizo. Regardless of which route we go, we would do a polished nickel finish. I like the looks of the set on the right better, but we liked the functionality of the height adjustments on the left.

We made it about two hours and finally I said to just put the faucet below in all the secondary bathrooms because we really liked it and I was having decision fatigue at that point. Ha! Now that we have the full lookbook from them with all our selections, we may make a few tweaks. But Kurtis and I really liked this Winter Park line from Pfister. Does anyone have experience with that brand? I’d love to hear as we’ve never used it before.

In addition to faucets, we also had to select our bathtubs and toilets. If I had to guess, I think my last bath was 15-18 years ago? I know it was shortly after we moved in our Virginia Street house (not long after I started this blog)! I remember I had had a long day at work, so I decided to take a hot bath. I poured a glass of red wine, we didn’t have any chocolate but surprisingly had a Little Debbie Swiss Roll, lit a candle, turned on Enya for a little relaxing music, and sat in the tub. For like 3 minutes and hated it because it was already getting cold and I was bored. I was about to give up and Kurtis walked in and was like, “what are you doing???” I’m not sure he’s ever laughed harder in his life. Needless to say, he got to climb in every tub at the showroom and test them out 😉 We really like the one below, but I’d want a gloss finish rather than the matte white they had in the show room.

Friday we had our electrical walk-through. They had actually started earlier in the week so they had outlet boxes hung in most rooms (just not wired yet). It was very helpful to visualize everything and for us to make a few changes based on how we’d use various spaces. Here you can see the view in my office facing towards the garage. You can see that the garage and carriage house almost look like separate buildings – which they essentially are, just connected with an interior staircase.

While at the meeting, they asked how high I wanted our exterior lanterns. I hadn’t even begun to look at any yet, thinking I still had plenty of time. But with the exterior lights, I forgot they need to know the location of the boxes to side the house properly. So, that evening before dinner, we popped into a local lighting store to get an idea on current lantern styles. The area I need to focus on most is flanking the garage (in the image above you can see where they’ll go).

I believe we have another meeting onsite with the project manager this week, so I’m expecting to get much more solid timelines for flooring, lighting, etc. so I can stay on top of it! I think things are going to start moving quickly now and I still have so many decisions to finalize. But it’s getting more exciting by the day!
In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!
Around Town & For Fun
With us not getting back from Omaha until late Monday night (or technically early Tuesday morning), the first half of the week was spent getting caught up on work and life.
We had a Wednesday night date night at Amigos followed by dinner with friends on Friday night at Amici.

Hawkeye started crying incessantly at the back door one evening – something he never does. We opened it up, he ran to a chair, and then just crashed for an hour or so. It was pretty funny! It was like he knew exactly where he wanted to sleep.

Henley is still a fan of her usual spot. Her blankets got washed this week, so they were extra cozy.

Kurtis made me drive him with our hedge trimmers on our golf cart over to this path he walks on daily. The trees were getting really overgrown and hitting people on the path in the head. He did his civic duty and cut a few of the offenders so now there is a clear visual line and people won’t lose an eye when they walk through. Clearly he had hit his breaking point with them. Ha!

Sunday, Rachel coordinated a boat day with a bunch of our friends. We rented pontoons out of Panama City Beach and went out to Shell Island. We never actually went on the island, but one of the pontoons had double waterslides and we all just hung out, swam, and chatted.

It was a beautiful day and a lot of fun! Kurtis and I had done it twice before when our friends from Omaha were in town, but this was the first time with any of our local friends!

The cutest little ice cream “truck” came over selling all sorts of treats, so several of the kids bought some. For those wondering about the color of the water: we were on the bay side of the water. So the Gulf is actually on the opposite side of the island we were visiting. The water is much more brackish, and closer to a lake, lookwise, in my opinion. Since we only did a half day rental, we arrived later in the day and most of the sandy spots to anchor were taken, so we were over a lot of seaweed (hence the really great color)!

We celebrate our 20th anniversary tomorrow, so we are trying to plan a fun dinner for Friday night. I hope you all have a great week!

Happy Anniversary!
Thank you Karen!
Oh my gosh, Sarah, I busted out at your “Bath on Virginia Street” story. I can even hear which Enya song it was in my mind. And the Little Debbie only added to the tale! 😂😂😂😂😂 I had a similar experience with our last address. Just had to have that house because of the master bath and its giant tub. One bath the first night is all it took to forsake it forever. Now tubs are only for resale value and a weekly dusting!
Happy anniversary!
Haha! Glad you got a laugh. Kurtis still thinks it’s the funniest story to tell. We never felt the need for a giant tub after that house but it’s wild how many people say they wouldn’t buy a house without one even if they admit to rarely using it!
And thank you!
Happy Anniversary!
Looking to update some faucets and hardware in our house. I see you’re looking at shiny silver, which we currently have and I don’t mind. At any rate what would you recommend that would be the most classic?
Thank you Kristine! Yes, I personally think polished nickel will always be the most timeless. It may not always be the trendiest but always will look great (and is actually coming back as a trend now too). Chrome can be great too but is definitely a bit cooler in tone so I prefer polished nickel where possible since it’s a little warmer and tends to go better with more class styles. I hope that helps!
100% agree. We have polished nickel in our home. Have never been happier with a choice. Love that you are putting them in your new home!
Fabulous! Can’t wait to see continued progress on the house! Fun photos of boating! We just got back from 30a this week – rented a boat loved it!
So glad you enjoyed it too! I always love being on the water!
