Good morning! I hope you all had a nice weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

Home Projects & Updates
Things are progressing nicely over at the new build. Early on in the week they started the second story walls!

Kurtis and Chris took the ladder up one night and Chris took this picture for me. Kurtis is basically sitting in the window of our bathroom and where the tub will be. Such a pretty view! I’m really hoping for some stairs soon so I’m not tempted to climb up the ladder too.

Friday night when we drove by, we saw they had built the little standalone detached garage. This will act as Kurtis’ gym and he is very excited about having a dedicated space! Since we don’t plan to park cars here, we asked for the back to have glass doors. With the hurricane codes we have here, we couldn’t do a glass garage style door off the back, so instead opted to do with the French door style hurricane doors (much like we have on our house now). He was pretty excited to see the new view!

By Saturday they had wrapped up what appears to be 90% off the upstairs (including interior walls). The carriage house is also fully built-out over the garage. The only thing that appears to be left is the two-story wall that connects the garage/carriage house with the main house where the staircase goes up to the apartment (and we’ll have a little mudroom at the bottom).

One of the oddities of our current home situation is that we opted to sleep upstairs in a secondary bedroom rather than the main floor intended primary bedroom. But we still get ready in the attached bathroom and closet. But with that, we don’t have a dresser because I didn’t want one in my office when I needed other types of storage and we didn’t want to trek upstairs after showering. Long story short, I still needed somewhere to store items like bathing suits and I had been using half of my cabinet in my office that holds fabric samples, wallpaper samples, etc. Over our last few months of travel, it had turned into pure chaos because it obviously wasn’t built to hold clothes. I had gotten to the point I was just shoving clean suits in wherever I could fit them. Eek!
A friend recommended these frosted pouches to store swimsuits and they worked like a charm! I simply folded up one suit (or set) in a pouch and then stored them in some old Walmart baskets I had. Below, you can see the shelves as they looked before (absolute chaos) and then once I folded and stored everything. The entire top shelf is empty now, the bottom is organized, and I feel like I scored some major adulting points with this new system!

In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!
Around Town & For Fun
Kurtis and I started the week off with a morning bike ride around the neighborhood! It’s always so fun to drive around and scope out the new builds and other changes.

Wednesday night, Rachel hosted a birthday dinner for Marissa. Always such a fun time with lots of laughs whenever this crew gets together!

Here’s a closer look at the striped beach sweater I wore and what I paired it with.

Friday morning, Kurtis and I had a meeting with a local attorney to discuss the transition of some of our businesses from Nebraska to Florida (two and half years later. Ha!). Since we were in Grayton I also convinced him we needed to stop into one of my favorite shops, The Studio Gallery.

I love the gallery so much and always find new treasures each time I stop in. This is also where my girlfriends and I have taken several art classes.

We then had lunch at the beach before our weekly Friday dinner with friends. But this time we changed it up and ate at Amici (Amigos sister restaurant). They’re in the same location, one just serves Mexican and the other serves Italian. You can’t go wrong with either!
I found this knit sweater on the sale rack at our beach club. Since I rarely see Varley on sale, I scooped it up. It’s actually so great for summer! The arm openings are rather large but it helps make it feel much less constricting. I prefer a large in most of their tops like this one and then XL in the shorts.

Friday post-dinner fun in the 30Avenue green space.

The deer have been out a lot recently in our neighborhood which is always fun to see. I spotted a few at our pond, and Kurtis turned the corner on a walk and almost ran into another pair!

A few weeks back I ordered a weighted vest because it seemed like everyone else was. Do I walk? No, Do I lift weights? Also no. But I also knew I should do both. I accepted an invite early Sunday morning to join some weighted vest walking friends on their walk. It was such a beautiful morning! I made it almost two miles before my left leg basically turned to Jello. Ha! So 30 minutes in, I veered off and let the other ladies continue so I didn’t mess with their pace. Moral of the story: probably don’t wear a weighted vest the first time you join power walkers. I think I need to give it a try at my own, slower pace or join them and leave the vest behind. Who knew 8 pounds could feel so heavy?!? Ha! I’ve also read where you can wear the vest around the house doing simple chores to help build up stamina.

We ended the weekend with a little date night out at Amigos. We realized it had actually been weeks since just the two of us went out for dinner. We cook at home so much more in the summer, and with our standing Friday dinner with friends, we hadn’t been going out as much. So it was fun to change it up a bit!
Over the weekend two friends reached out that will be visiting this week somewhat last-minute, so it will be really fun to catch up with them this week!
