Home Projects & Updates
It was the week of landscaping around here! Our magnolia trees are in full bloom and they’re just so beautiful! I only wished their blooms lasted more than a handful of days.
We had a rough winter around here weather-wise, and my olive tree and two rosemary topiaries on our front porch didn’t survive. So, I headed to Walmart and Lowe’s last week to pick up some replacements. I found lots of goodies – especially once I found the Lowe’s clearance section. I chatted about this briefly on Instagram the other day, but I always find their clearance section this time of year. It’s where they sell “distressed” plants at 50% off and you can find some great plants! Most just need a little water or some dead-heading. I came home with a car full and was so happy most of it was 50% off! They also had palms on sale for $15 which is a steal! This week I’ll probably head back because they usually have great sales leading up to Mother’s Day too so keep your eyes open!
I’m still impressed I fit all of this in one trip! Just don’t ask me what the current condition of the car interior looks like right now 😉
Hawkeye is still obsessed with being out on our front porch, so of course he had to check everything out once I got home.
Plants just make me so happy! I’ll put together a little list of all my favorite plant combos if any of you would find that helpful.
You all know how much we love our BHG swivel chairs we have out in the cabana (and have had for six seasons now and they still look great). So I finally ordered these S&L look for less outdoor chairs for our front porch. I had Kurtis help me assemble them quickly yesterday and now I have to wrap up the planters! I’ll be sure to share once I have it all finished. But I love how much more summery it’s already looking out here! Still TBD if I use the rug under the chairs or at the front door layered with another mat.

Speaking of outdoor furniture. Our backyard updates I made a few weeks ago here just can’t catch a break. You may remember that I shared that the umbrella I had used was the casualty of a crazy wind storm we had a few weeks back. It was destroyed. Then, several of the plants died while we were out of the country and there was no rain. Well we had another big storm over the weekend and we looked out later and saw one of the pillows floating in the pool. Ha! How sad is this little scene now. So, I have some more work to do out there and also need to get the rest of the planters out there planted this week!

Around Town & For Fun
We spent the first half the week recovering from a bit of jet lag and getting caught up on life in general after having been gone for the 10 days prior.
Rachel and I went to the grand opening party for Summer House Lifestyle. They previously had their shop in Grayton Beach so I didn’t get in there super frequently. But now they’ve moved to the shopping area near our neighborhood which could be dangerous! We took a quick selfie in front of this gorgeous vanity! For those of you that aren’t local, I also found the vanity here – it’s a stunner!
Here’s a closer look at the dress I wore. I bought it for the river cruise so I’m glad I had another reason to wear it again so quickly! It fits true to size, has pockets, and is super cute! It also comes in green which looks to have a lot more sizing options currently.
The shop has a gorgeous design room (I need that wallpaper!) and I love that they had so many Dash & Albert samples you could see in person and touch! We followed the party with a happy hour dinner at Ambrosia with our friend Marissa. It was a fun night!
The baby egrets have been my entertainment most of the week. It’s been so fun watching them get lessons from mama.
Our Friday night post-Amigos hangout had some surprise decor. They had set up a bunch of tables, umbrellas and flags for their upcoming Cinco de Derby party they were hosting the next day.
I made a big batch of tomato soup over the weekend and I’ll tell you what. These are the strangest carrots I have ever seen. And they were in the same bag!
We were pretty low-key Saturday. It rained and stormed most of the day and we randomly watched The Pelican Brief on TV, commercials and all. I don’t remember the last time I ever did something like that! But the cats were happy to have a lazy day with us. I still can’t get over how cute Henley is (always) but especially when she uses her cute little pet pillows.
As much as she loves her cute little pet pillows, she also loves this setup which is ridiculous. That knotted mat is not meant to be comfy or a headrest. Ha! I also just noticed that the outdoor palm rug is 40% off in all colors today!

Kurtis and I headed to the beach yesterday after lunch. The weather was absolute perfection and the color of the water was rather remarkable! I still get so excited on beautiful beach days like this!
It’s been a while since the Camp Creek dune lake wasn’t open to the Gulf. It was hard to capture in pictures, but the lake was actually sitting a few feet above the Gulf. I’m guessing it’s only a few days max before it breaks! But it was pretty surreal (and honestly a bit intimidating) to walk past knowing it could break through at any time.
Here you can better see the height difference. Not sure why the lake is glowing blue/purple below. Maybe a reflection from the sky, but the lake was a much darker blue mixed with the brown from the pine straw tannins, more like the image above. But can you see how much higher the lake is? Wild!
We ended the weekend with a little DoorDash from Amici and a golf cart ride around our neighborhood!
Kurtis is traveling for work for most of the next two weeks so it gives me an opportunity to catch up on a lot of things around here! I’m eager to get all of my planters done, our outdoor spaces cleaned, and switch over to summer mode.
