A few weeks back, prior to two rounds of house guests arriving, I decided to give our carriage house bedroom a little refresh! The updates needed to be quick and fairly easy due to the proximity of our guests’ arrivals. I share more background on the space as well as the general refresh plans here. And today I’m sharing the carriage house coastal bedroom updates we completed over the last two weeks in the days the space was vacant!

Carriage House Coastal Bedroom Updates
As a quick refresher, our carriage house was the first space we “decorated” when we moved into our new home. At the time, we had guests arriving for three weeks shortly after we moved in so it had to be the primary focus. We kept the bedroom simple and pretty minimalistic. Here is how the space looked for the last year and a half, up until our recent refresh.
And here is how it looks from that same angle today:
CARRIAGE HOUSE BEDROOM SOURCES: Rattan Bed (similar here) | Nightstands | Herringbone Rug | Lamps | Gallery Frame Kit | Florida Pennant | Gulf Coast Pennant | 30A Pennant | Sand Pennant | FL Pennant (many states available) | Shells Botanical Print | Tulip Shell Print | Striped Wallpaper | Oceana Wallpaper | Downloadable Art Prints | 30A Matchbox Printable | Striped Linen Duvet Cover | Organic Bamboo Sheets | Gauze Throw Blanket | Paint Color: Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light
Let’s jump into the details on the updates we made.
The biggest change was adding color to the walls. I went back and forth between a sand tone paint or a water toned paint. I ultimately went with Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light (color matched at Ace Hardware with Benjamin Moore paint). It’s a very soft blue-gray color with slight green undertones. With the warm tones of the bed frame and knowing I’d be adding a gallery wall with wood frames, I decided the water tones were the route to go! The samples below (L to R) were Benjamin Moore Smoke (what we have in our dining room), Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light (what we ultimately used), Sherwin Williams White Duck (the color in Hola Beaches Casita), and Benjamin Moore Classic Gray.
Once I wrapped up painting the walls, we then hung this gallery wall in the space. I wanted a bit of a collected and eclectic vibe, since this is meant to be a fun space for our friends and family to stay when they’re on vacation. I used a mix of art from Lindsay Letters, downloadable prints from Etsy, pennants from Anybody’s backyard and leftover wallpaper (this one and this one) to fill the gallery wall frames.
I used two of these frame kits. I had ordered one kit nearly a year ago for Hola Beaches Casita and never ended up using it. So when I started this project I decided to make use of all the frames!
The reviews are very mixed on them so thought I’d share my experience. The glass on one of my original frames was broken (and I was well past the return window). But for the price of eight frames at this size, I took a risk and ordered one more set. It arrived totally fine! Some of the comments mention black flecks on the glass. Only one of mine had that and it was easily removed (it appears to just be dust scraps from the backing).
Another item to note is that the mats are not removable! But I was still able to get the flags underneath without much issue. Just wanted to mention all of this if you’re considering buying the kit! The templates that came with them to hang it made them a breeze! You tape the template up, place all the nails and the frames are ready to be hung! The nail then sits on one of those single serrated metal tabs that you can move so it makes it pretty easy to adjust as needed until they’re all level. Happy to answer any other questions on these frames if they come up! I still love my Pottery Barn gallery frames we’ve used for years, but I got these eight for about the price of only one and a half of the PB version.
We also swapped out the bedding with this gorgeous striped European linen duvet cover (in the Mist color). I love that this linen has that lived-in feel and isn’t scratchy. The sheets are organic bamboo and silky smooth and are great for temperature regulation. I also added this gauze throw blanket in Mist and loved it so much I ordered another one in white to add to the living room! The Mist color ties in so well with the wall color and just adds to the overall coastal vibe in the space.
On the opposite side of the room, I wanted to keep decor to a minimum but it was fun to add this large oyster shell and some freshly clipped palms on top of the dresser, as well.
Carriage House Coastal Bathroom Updates
Moving into the bathroom, I took the art that was previously in the bedroom and moved it to this empty wall in the bathroom. It really helps to tie all of the colors in the various spaces together! It’s nearly impossible to photograph this spot with decent lighting but here ya go 😉
CARRIAGE HOUSE BATHROOM SOURCES: Abstract Beach Art | Towel Bar | Organic Bath Mats | Hand Soap | Mirror: Discontinued from Serena & Lily | Cabinet Paint Color: Stock cabinet color called Aero Blue but similar to Benjamin Moore Santorini Blue
That wraps up the little refresh tour! It’s so fun to have some personality in this space now!
