Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

Home Projects & Updates
I worked on a little backyard refresh and finally bought some plants at the nursery! Definitely loving all of the spring vibes right now! I’ll share more details later this week once I organize all the photos. But these planters are currently on sale and a great addition to the space. They’re similar to the Walmart planter we love, but it’s nice to have some alternative height options too. The planter in the back was purchased locally at Clay 30A.

We had a few day gap in visitors during the week so I wrapped up the carriage house bedroom refresh (for now)! I’ll plan to share it all tomorrow and give the updated tour! I quickly realized I was short a few pieces of art, so I ordered this digital download set of 800+ prints on Etsy and then just had them printed at FedEx since we were out of printer ink. It was a super quick and affordable solution!

In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!
Around Town & For Fun
As mentioned last week, our niece and her friend arrived the Thursday night prior. On Monday, Kurtis and I worked during the day while they went out exploring. We then went to Old Florida Fish House for dinner that evening.
I get the same order every time – the Grouper Fish House. It’s so good! And I’m not typically a dessert person but they had strawberry shortcake on the menu that evening and it was incredible!
Their last evening here, we had pizza at Bruno’s after a few hours at the beach. We then drove to Inlet Beach to watch the sunset and it was a pretty spectacular one that night!
The girls were in their shorts and swimsuits and we Floridians were freezing in our hoodies 😉
I took this picture of them as we were walking back to the Bronco and told them if they ever started a band, this should be the album cover 😉 Everything was glowing pink from the beautiful sunset!
The girls left early Wednesday morning, right into a blizzard in Minneapolis (where they flew out of) down to Iowa. Such a friendly greeting after a week in the sun 😉
Thursday night, we celebrated our friend Louise’s birthday! She’s one of our favorite people we’ve met since moving here so it was fun to celebrate her for an evening. I was in charge of an appetizer, so I brought this charcuterie board. I actually learned the meat “flowers” from my brother years ago. They’re super simple to make if you haven’t tried it before if you Google it. I found a small-mouth wine glass worked best! The rosemary is courtesy of my new backyard rosemary bush.
Hawkeye living his best front porch life.
He also saw me head up to the carriage house late in the week and then Kurtis said he’d just sit and stare at the stairs while I was gone. So, we decided to see if he’d actually go up there. We let him out and when I went up the stairs, he sprinted up and explored the space for a few minutes. Not a care in the world. He and Henley have come so far since we moved from Omaha!
Kurtis’ middle sister, Teresa, and her husband Todd (Kate’s parents!) arrived Saturday night. We made a late night Amigo’s stop so they could grab a bite after traveling most of the day.
Sunday we headed to the beach club for lunch and a few hours on the beach. It’s Todd’s first time here so it was fun showing him a bit around town. We also ran into several friends so it was fun for them to meet more of our family! Camp Creek Lake had just broken into the Gulf, so it’s always interesting watching the two waters mix. When tourists see the brown water they often panic a bit. But the lake water is actually super clean, it has just been dyed by pine needles so it basically looks like tea!
Kurtis took a kayak out while I was looking for seashells.
Once we got home and cleaned up, we ordered pizza from Bruno’s because none of us felt like going out. Henley was the benefactor of our decision. She’d eat 100% human food if it were up to her. But at least she’s polite. She knows when we eat outside this is her chair and she only occasionally tries to get on the table. Ha!
After dinner, we took a golf cart ride to grab some gelato, then came back and the other three jumped in the hot tub. I was freezing for some reason so sat under a blanket on the screened-in porch to chat with them. They also watched the Iowa State basketball game. Todd and Teresa are alumni and it’s where Todd went to vet school and Kate is attending vet school. Her older sister is also a vet alumni from there so it’s a family affair!
Todd and Teresa are here until Thursday afternoon, so we have some fun things planned throughout the week. We’ll actually be taking our first gator airboat tour, so I’m excited about that! They actually drove to Pensacola early this morning to hit the National Naval Aviation Museum while Kurtis and I work today so we’re excited to hear how it went!

Sarah,
I love those gallery frames and was about to order but then I read the reviews. Many are not overly enthusiastic but there are a few saying that they worked well. Just curious, have you tried the det you purchased yet? I love the 2 sizes but am slightly reluctant after what I read.
Thanks!
Hi Pat! There are definitely mixed reviews. I tried to address all of my thoughts on them in today’s post: https://lifeonvirginiastreet.com/carriage-house-coastal-bedroom-reveal/. Definitely some pros and cons but overall I’m very happy with them!
Love the fluted planters but cannot open either link. Is it me?
Oh shoot! Do you have a pop-up blocker on by chance? I always have my links open in a new window so that you don’t lose your spot reading my article, so maybe that is the problem?
Loved this weekend recap! The decor inspiration and lifestyle updates are always a treat to read. Can’t wait to see more!
