Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you were all able to find a bit of peace and quiet in your weekend routines. It was much needed around here after two weeks of back-to-back travel and overall just being a really emotional and heavy week. Here’s a bit of what else we were up to over the past week or so.

Home Projects & Updates

It’s going to be such a fun change for us to have the carriage house in the front rather than the back like we currently have. The house definitely feels more imposing this way when pulling up, but it allows us to have better views and greenspace in the backyard. Since our carriage house is for visitors, it makes a lot more sense for us to have the daily views rather than the occasional guest. Or at least we think so – we’ll see what our friends and family think 😉 They do still have the really pretty woods across the street to look at though.

And here is a view from inside the carriage house. In the image above, I was standing below and to the left of the image below. Here I’m in the living room with the bedroom seen behind that.

They also installed our mud room side door. I envision we’ll use this door a lot more than our front door since it will be such a great drop zone! We got another rogue window grid in one of the transom windows too. No idea what’s going on there. Ha! They should all be vertical, but I know it’s a quick and easy fix.

When it came to windows and doors, we were offered very few selections. Our county code requires impact resistant windows and hurricane doors so pickings are slim! But I really like this style that is similar to what we currently have. Here’s a look at our kitchen with the windows flanking the range. It’s hard to tell in photos like this, but the ceilings are 12′ high on the main floor, so the windows are quite tall! The space between the windows holds a 48″ range, plus has several inches on either side before the window. A standard range sits several inches below the windows just for scale reference.

Fall is definitely in the air along 30A! The overnight temps are getting cooler, with some nights and mornings in the 60s lately, which has felt amazing! This view from the second story shows a little bit of fall color that has arrived. We’ve also noticed a lot of the scrub shrubs and trees have started dropping leaves so we’re getting more views of the pond at the golf course. So pretty!

I’m going to try and meet with the cabinet maker in the near future to start providing ideas and get a general bid on the items I would like to see in our home. I have a feeling I’ll have to make a few adjustments and scale back my ideas a bit to stay closer to budget. But it will be fun to start working on those ideas!

In Case You Missed It

Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days! It was slim pickings around here 😉

Around Town & For Fun

I was only home one full day after Vegas before I flew out to Dallas for the LTK conference. The cats were my shadow while I was here.

My travel outfit – basically always in Varley on travel days now! It’s so easy to be super comfy but look a bit more polished! I actually got their new fall catalogue in the mail this week and it has a rare discount code if you’ve ever wanted to try it. You can get 10% off with code FALLSEPT25! I wore this top (which I believe is one of the first items I ever purchased from them) and these new wide-leg pants. I love that they now come in three inseam lengths! I’m 5’9″ in the 30″ so I could wear them with flats. I take a Large in most of their tops (they fit generously) and XL in most of their bottoms.

Here’s a photo once Rachel and I arrived after our flight.

Lots of outfit selfies to follow since we had to wear two+ outfits per day at the conference. Each day was more of a dressy casual and the evenings were all themed.

Here is my one and only mirror selfie in this dress from our Parisian chic themed night. Being the non-fashion-influencer that I am, I dumped my suitcase right in front of the full-length mirror and never moved it. I actually love this dress and wore it to last year’s conference as well. I’d say it fits true to size but doesn’t have an ounce of stretch so I prefer the XL. It’s one of the few short Tuckernuck dresses that doesn’t feel too short on me.

The first night was hosted by Abercrombie and was supposed to be Abercrombie denim on denim. I didn’t own any Abercrombie denim and you’ll find I didn’t totally conform to all the rules (despite typically being a rule follower). I talked to a few other friends and they were just going in jeans and cute tops, so I did as well. I wore this top, these jeans, this necklace, and these shoes.

SOURCES: Top (size Large) | Jeans (true to size, but go down if between) | Necklace | Purse | Suede Sandals | Lip Gloss (All Things Magical)

Here were my day time outfits for the general sessions, meetings, and brand hall visits.

SOURCES: Belted Dress (runs big) | Woven Shoes | Purse | Blazer (size Large) | Striped Ruffle Placket Top (size XL, but should have gone with Large) | Jeans | Suede Sandals | Purse

I believe this was my eighth year or so attending, and every year I go back and forth as to whether or not I should. But then I get there and the people and conversations are so great. I spent a lot of time with these three and love them all so much! From left to right, Brittany, Rachel, me and Becky. I love that we get to hang out on 30A occasionally too!

For the final evening and awards dinner, I re-wore this dress that I wore for Kurtis’ awards night back in February. I didn’t attempt to put my shoes on until I was ready to leave but then didn’t want to mess up my dress and these shoes aren’t easy to buckle. So my friends Kimber and Katie helped me while in their gowns. It was quite the sight that Lacy captured on video. Ha!

SOURCES: Dress | Sparkle Shoes | Star Earrings | Silver Purse (shout out to Becky for letting me borrow it since I forgot to bring one)

This week can be a lot any given year. I am a social person in doses, but then I really just need some peace and quiet and time to decompress. It was a great time, but I was also very ready to get home!

Kurtis actually left for Omaha Tuesday and didn’t return until Friday afternoon so we didn’t see each other all week. We headed to Amigos, just the two of us, and it was so great to be reunited and back home.

We took a golf cart ride and the sky was absolutely stunning. I shared the below image along with a Bible verse on my Instagram stories, after having unplugged entirely for several days. I wanted to share it here as well. It was an incredibly dark week for our country, but I pray to continue to see all the good in people, have faith in humanity and count the blessings that constantly surround us.

After two weeks of travel and honestly exhaustion on both of our parts we laid pretty low on Saturday. I caught up on work and Kurtis watched a bunch of football with his little sidekick. She must know that football means colder weather, because even though it was still 80+ out, she sat and cried in front of the fireplace until Kurtis turned it on for her. I’ll let you guess who’s in charge around here… 😉

I needed to run to Publix yesterday for a few supplies for a fall tablescape I’ll be sharing soon. Kurtis and I popped over in the golf cart, which always makes us feel like true Floridians. But also ask me how many times I run into people I know with golf cart hair, no makeup and basically my pajamas on. Every time, and usually in multiples. But I never see anyone when I actually get ready. Ha!

We have several upcoming visitors we’re really excited about, including a last-minute one this weekend! We’ll have four sets of visitors here over the next 7 or 8 weeks (with each of us traveling a bit for work in between) and then suddenly it will be Thanksgiving. This time of year is always busy but we love it (and our people) so much!

Do you have any idea about your countertops? will you use the same one as your current home? Thoughts

I’m guessing they won’t have us visit the slab yard until early next year, so I should have a better idea at that point based upon what they have available. I know I want a natural stone like quartzite (what we have now) or marble. I prefer a more white/light base with a mix of warm and cool tones mixed in, something like Calacatta Gold marble. Just haven’t decided if I can commit to marble in the kitchen!
