Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

The guys have been working like crazy over at our new house! The preliminary electrical work seems to be close to wrapping up, most of the framing is complete, and the back screened-in porch has been almost fully framed out!

Here’s a view to the left of the photo above. You can see where our outdoor kitchen will go. The grill essentially goes between those two window openings and then there will be a beverage fridge and small sink under the windows. They actually place windows in the openings in this section, to help with the elements when it’s raining, etc. and you want to grill. The rest of the space will all be screens.

Here’s the view from the new carriage house balcony. It’s going to be so pretty despite being at the front of the house! I’ve already seen lots of deer across the street recently.

On the exterior, they got all of the eaves and rooflines primed! They’ve already started doing a lot of wood filling, as well. It was so great to finally see a color other than the orange plywood and OSB all over the house!

We also had to lock in our roof shingle and metal colors last week. They were needing to place the order. I’m guessing windows aren’t too far behind either? I know they’ll be eager to get it fully enclosed shortly so they can start working on the interiors!

Back at our house, Kurtis and I worked on more purging and decluttering over the weekend. Kurtis tackled his garage workbench and cabinets, and I focused on my pillow closet. Yes, I have a pillow closet. Ha! It’s really just a pillow cover closet, but I hang all of them on pant hangers to take up minimal space while also avoiding wrinkles/fold lines. This was mid-purge, but I essentially donated anything that wasn’t a basic (like solid linen or velvet colors) or that wasn’t available any longer. It always feels so good to whittle down the hoard a bit! I’ll have a much better storage situation at the new house, but I don’t want that to be an easy excuse for keeping things I no longer use or need.

Around Town & For Fun

Kurtis was in Nashville the first half of the week, so I laid pretty low and hung out at the house most of the time. I started doing Faster Way to Fat Loss again (after a four or five year hiatus), so I was focusing on eating the right foods and getting all the daily workouts in! It actually helped to have a few days alone to get the ball rolling. I took several walks after my workouts and just love our neighborhood so much! It’s so peaceful and so beautiful!

The mornings have been getting a smidge cooler (and by smidge, I still mean lows in the high 70’s), but it’s Henley’s favorite. She has been begging to go outside more in the mornings and evenings. She’s basically taken over Bailey’s role of always being out there!

While Kurtis was away, I thought it would be fun to treat myself to a cold brew coffee at Starbucks. I mostly love the drive on the golf cart and it was a reason to get out of the house. I made it to the end of the street and then heard the loudest crack of lightning! I turned around and the sky approaching was jet black. I decided to turn around and take the car as a precaution (I’d already placed the order on the app). It’s a good thing I did. We had the most torrential rain for thirty minutes or so. My clothes were 100% soaked even running from the car to inside Starbucks and back again. Good thing I didn’t take the golf cart! The pond across the street usually has two or three feet of dried grass from the water receding, but you can see it was nearly full by the time I got back. It was wild! Gotta love summer rainstorms in Florida!

Friday night we resumed our friend dinner, this time at Amici rather than Amigos. The sunsets are starting to get really vivid again down on the southern horizon. During a few months of the summer, the sun moves so far north, the sunsets are over the land rather than the water for most of 30A. So I always love when that begins to transition back to gulf sunsets!

I also saw the harvest moon! It was so bright in the sky! I just wish I would have been able to see it when it was a bit lower on the horizon.

We had the cutest baby frog on our side door for several days. He was so new, he was translucent from the view we had inside the house. I’m zoomed out here for reference so you can see him in comparison to the hinge (he is basically the size of a thumbnail). So unbelievably tiny and adorable! Or at least as adorable as a frog can be 😉

The past few weekends have been really cloudy so we haven’t done much at the pool or beach. We’re stuck in such a strange pattern! But it’s been good for us to have time for decluttering and to have some down time in between Kurtis’ traveling.

On Sunday, we ended the weekend with dinner at Rachel’s and Chris’ house and the inaugural friendly bocce tournament event in the empty lot next to them. Basically a fun reason to get together with friends for a little friendly competition! It was a lot of fun!

We have a busy week at home this week, and I’m really hoping to get a meeting scheduled with the cabinet company for our new house. I feel like so many plans I have in mind for the kitchen and several other spaces revolve around the cabinets (and if what I want is feasible and/or in-budget). So hoping that can all happen soon!

Now that school has started locally and for so many of the tourists that visit here, I’d also love to get out and do dinner somewhere new or somewhere we haven’t been in awhile!

    Hi, Sarah
Looks like very exciting times for you guys. Quick question, you posted a look for less option from Amazon for the PB curtain rods you use. Have you tried the ones from Amazon, and, if so, what was your take?
    Thanks very much,
    Pat

Hi! I actually responded on that post back to you. Did it not email you? I never know if it does or not – it may have also just crossed. But I only have the PB ones – haven’t tried the Amazon version 🙂

Yep. I have a pillow cover closet hanging on pant hangers. I so related to that post. Motivating me to look through the hoard as you put it. Can’t wait to see the decor in the new house.

Haha! Glad I’m not the only one. It does really make them seem less chaotic though when it’s just the covers hanging rather than stacks of pillows!
