Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

It’s pretty wild how much changed at our new build this week! Not only did they wrap up the second story, but nearly all of the trusses have now been added!

But the best news of all for me is that they added stairs so I could finally get to the second story! The stairs will ultimately wrap around to the wall on the left so this isn’t what they’ll look like when finished. But I was so excited to get up to the second story!

Such an exciting day!

Our bedroom upstairs will have a vaulted ceiling and overlook trees across the street at the front of the house (that area won’t ever be developed).

Here is the same view but I’m back a bit past our closet and then in the bathroom. Kurtis is standing in the hallway between the two and then our closets are split (mine will be to his right and his will be to his left).

Once they got the trusses up, I was filling up my water bottle at our sink and realized I could see the trusses through the trees! Kind of wild! Look just between the outdoor chandelier and umbrella.

We’re supposed to have pretty rainy weather much of the week, so between that and the holiday, I’m not sure how much progress we’ll see this week. But I’ll keep you posted!

Back at our house, the tree that was installed here was always kind of a mess.

We finally decided to lob off some of the crazy limbs.

We didn’t want to take too much off at once, but we feel like it’s looking a bit better now. I also cleaned up some of the lower limbs too to give it a little more clearance.

I bought this little pack of American flags and started placing them in various planters for the Fourth.

Around Town & For Fun

After my little weighted vest walking adventure last weekend, I knew I needed to get new shoes. Kurtis had gone to the nearby Fleet Feet a year or so ago and had his foot scanned by their machines (it’s free and super quick). I’ve known for a long time that I have unusual feet (super high arch) and most athletic shoes have always been so uncomfortable for me. I told the salesperson I had weird feet and she said most people say that. Then she saw my scan and said I actually do. Ha! Not only is my arch off-the-charts high, but my feet are apparently almost a full size apart and my instep height is off the charts high. This totally explained why my feet go almost numb every single time I wear tennis shoes. Long story short, after trying on eight or so pairs, I finally found some that felt perfect. So if your feet are super weird like mine, the Asics Novablast 5 are what ended up working for me! I love them! But the real point of the story is that it’s totally worth trying their scans if you have a hard time finding walking or athletic shoes you love. They’ll email you the scan and the results are so interesting!

This picture basically describes the weather pattern we’ve been stuck in for a week (and looks like we may continue to have this week). It randomly would start raining minutes after pure sunshine. It would look totally clear and then you’d be in a downpour 15 minutes later. It was wild!

Kurtis and I had walked to our new house early one morning and I took the picture above as I got back home. I could tell rain wasn’t far out despite it being totally sunny at our house. Kurtis walked quite a bit after me and took this on his way home. The sky had already started to clear and there was a pretty rainbow over our street!

Our friend and realtor from Omaha, Megan, was in town for the week. She came and visited us at our house one morning and it was so fun catching up with her for an hour or so! She’s truly the best and if you’re in Omaha and need a realtor, Megan Owens is amazing. She and I actually worked together in insurance so long ago (probably 15 years ago?). But she’s the one that actually sold our Virginia Street house (back where the blog name came from) in 2012. We’ve used her on no less than a dozen real estate transactions since then. She is so good and couldn’t be sweeter!

Kurtis and I did round three of the 5-day Prolon fast-mimicking program this past week, so it was kind of a snooze-fest around here. In lieu of going out with our friends to Amigos Friday night, we ate from our kit and then took a long golf cart ride that evening since the weather was so beautiful!

Hawkeye sits at the front door daily now, wanting to go out on the front porch. Henley only occasionally joins, but they sure love it out here. Well, Hawkeye mostly loves trying to eat from all my planters which is why the time out there is usually pretty short-lived!

Henley and Hawkeye just waiting for Kurtis to get out of the shower. No idea why they both decided to sit here and stare at the door!

I joined the weighted vest walking crew early Sunday morning since my new shoes had already arrived! I left the weighted vest at home this time so I can build up my stamina a bit more. But it was such a beautiful morning!

I promptly made some dough Saturday night so I could bake a loaf of bread Sunday morning once I got back from our walk. I still have so much to learn with sourdough, but even if it isn’t always pretty it always tastes so good!

We had planned to head to the beach or pool for lunch and then spend some time outside on Sunday afternoon. But, the weather didn’t cooperate with us. So, we decided to do a fun happy hour dinner at Ambrosia to celebrate being able to eat “real” food again. We prefer to sit in their bar section, rather than the main restaurant, and the food is always excellent! We love that it has totally different vibes than most of the other restaurants down here.

Here’s what I wore for the evening.

SOURCES: Eyelet Top | Linen Pants (I get the regular length to wear with sandals and the tall version for heels) | Seashell Necklace | Sandals (Almond Flour color)

We ended the night with a golf cart ride (we picked up Rachel on the way) and drove around a bit and looked at a few more new builds.

I can’t believe we’re already kicking off July tomorrow! Kurtis and I celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary on the 22nd. We didn’t plan any trips or anything since we had so much travel early in the year (and are headed to Omaha late next week for Kurtis’ parents’ 60th wedding anniversary). Over the last few weeks or so, we both kind of regretted not planning anything. We thought about booking a quick trip late in July but the more we researched nothing really jumped out.

So, we started talking about my birthday weekend in September. We had previously talked about trying to see the Eagles in Vegas at the Sphere when they opened up more dates. My parents and brother and sister-in-law have all been and they said I’ll have major regrets if I don’t go. Long story short, we ended up booking that. I haven’t been to Vegas since January 2020 and Kurtis hasn’t been in over 20 years which is wild! So, we’d love any restaurant and/or show recommendations if you have been recently!

Lastly, just a reminder that my 20% off discount code to Anthropologie ends tonight! You can see some of my top picks here if you missed it. But the code, SARAHS20, works on most regular priced items when you spend $100+!

I hope you all have a great week and Fourth of July holiday!
