Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a nice weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

Home Projects & Updates

There was a lot more progress on our new build last week! I’ve been storing some weekly video archives here if you’re interested.

We were pretty excited to see the sliding doors in our living room framed out. Since we always walked the lot from a much lower vantage point, we actually didn’t realize we’d have such a pretty view of the golf course and the hole shown. We were mostly excited about all the trees and privacy, so this was a fun surprise! I don’t know the exact dimensions of the slider below, but our ceilings will be 12′ again, so I believe this will be similar to our 10’x16′ slider we currently have in our living room. I’ve also had a lot of questions as to whether or not we’ll have a pool in our next house, and yes, we’ll have one very similar to our current one. It will be relatively small with an attached hot tub, which is fairly common in our area due to the smaller lot sizes. You’ll actually step down from the living room sliders shown below, and it will be back a few feet so it will be part of this view as well.

Apparently interior walls take much longer than I anticipated because that was the majority of what was completed all week. No second floor.

But they did fully frame out all of the windows, as well, and got the garage all framed. My home office will be the room shown on the right, with the entryway the larger opening in the center. A side door with access to the mudroom and carriage house will be to the left. The garage also sits to the left in the front of the house (with the carriage house above it).

The framers worked a few hours on Saturday as well and attached some plywood and started cutting out windows. So now I’m really hoping they start the second floor this week 😉 If nothing else, you’ll definitely be able to see more of the actual shape once the plywood is up.

In similar news to our new build, Chris and Rachel closed on their house on Friday! I share more info and some history in this post if you missed it, but our friends bought a new build three doors down from our new lot. It’s the same floor plan, so I’ve probably stalked their new house as much (or more) than they have 😉 We helped them move some things on Sunday to get them settled before most of their furniture comes on Tuesday. I have the Bronco parked in front of the garage (with the carriage house above) and the front door behind me. Basically the opposite view of our framing two pictures up if you’d like to get a sneak peek as to where ours is headed!

I had to run to Target last week, and picked up these two vases when I saw them in person. They’re really great sizes and so beautiful in person (not to mention affordable)! They’re so perfect for summer stems and I love that they’re substantial, but the mouths aren’t so large that you need a million stems.

If you’re wanting to add a little patriotic decor to your home for the 4th of July or summer, I noticed my American flag pillow covers (and the coordinating throw blankets we also have) are on clearance right now!

Excited to see what progress they make at the new build this week! I’m learning I probably need to lower my expectations a bit!

Around Town & For Fun

Kurtis was out of town for work Tuesday through Friday but it was a really busy week for me, as well, so it allowed me to get a lot of things wrapped up that I needed to.

Tuesday night, Rachel came over for a bit and we worked and chatted. Chris crashed for a bit and we got hit with torrential rain and a lighting storm. He took this really cool pic of multiple lightning bolts over our house when he was leaving once the rain slowed down.

Kurtis got home late Friday afternoon, so we opted out of our usual Friday night scene at Amigos and ordered in instead. We started watching Running Point with Kate Hudson on Netflix and really like it so far and laugh quite a bit.

Saturday, Kurtis and I headed to Camp Creek for lunch and were planning to have a little pool time. By the time we were done eating, there were literally no chairs left at the pool so we ended up heading home. Clearly we’re forgetting it’s officially “on season” down here now.

The crepe myrtle blooms were so beautiful! I usually only see the bright pink or white blooms, so these were a fun change. They almost looked like lilacs!

So, I ended up sitting out at our pool once we got home. It was crazy hot so I didn’t last long! Also, the recent rain drowned my rosemary bush. The ones on our front porch are still thriving, but this one out back, not so much.

Henley and Hawkeye have been into late afternoon/night time porch sessions lately. Henley has liked it for a while, but now Hawkeye wants to join her. She loves sleeping on the outdoor dining chairs. It’s still sometimes hard to believe that this little kitten face (and her brother) are almost 17 years old!

Kurtis saw them both sound asleep out there last night. Hawkeye is usually over in the living room area so it was funny to see him join her under the dining table.

Kurtis is traveling again for work this week but will then be home until we travel back to Omaha mid-July for his parents’ 60th wedding anniversary weekend! It’s still so hard to believe the year is nearly half over already!

Love the vases from Target. Are these clear glass or do they have a greenish tinge? Thanks.

They’re really pretty! They have a light bluish green tint to them (similar to what many recycled glass type products look like if you’re familiar with those). I hope that helps!
