Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a nice weekend. It’s hard to believe June is already here, but I know May can be a crazy busy month so it’s probably a relief for many! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to for the past week or so.

Home Projects & Updates

There was lots of progress at our new build this week! We went from concrete slab to partially framed!

By Tuesday evening, they had two walls framed in my future home office!

Unfortunately Thursday was a rain day, so they didn’t work. But we saw a few guys there Friday and Saturday and we can tell they have a bunch more walls built (they’re laying on the slab in the center) but likely need the full crew there to lift them. We’re guessing that will happen at some point today! Then, they’ll just have the garage to frame out and the first floor will be wrapped up!

Friday Kurtis and I ran to 8Five0 Tile before his first meeting so I could show him some of the tiles and floors I loved after my last visit. They’re only open for what I consider “construction” hours, so M-F 7-4 and not on the weekends so I wanted to get him there before his travel picks up again! We needed to grab a few flooring samples to test on site to look at the color. We also found a few more fun tiles! That star tile below can be made in tons of colors and you can even change the star and base colors, too. They have so many fun options there.

We had laid out the combo below (the cross and star tile pattern) and funny enough it was the exact combo in a house in our neighborhood the next day, but the colors were reversed!

Our contact at the store said that once framing is done, she’ll get onsite to measure and then we’ll place orders. So I really need to start finalizing some of my plans ASAP!

I finally found an affordable set of outdoor curtains that are long enough for our screened-in porch! They come in a bunch of colors and lengths/widths. I added one pair (two panels) to each side of our outdoor living space. We then used this rod that can be installed as ceiling mounted and wall mounted. Please note that it is not outdoor rated, but it’s the same one we used for years and years in Omaha outside. If it rusts quickly we’ll figure out an alternative, but I knew it functioned well in the past and took years and years to rust in Omaha so we’re giving it a try! We’re excited to close them in the evening when the late afternoon sun makes this area unbearably hot!

I also got some new outdoor umbrellas after our other one got destroyed in a windstorm. I was blown away by the quality of these scalloped umbrellas for the price. I have another picture further down in the post so you can see another view.

I also spent some time this weekend purging items from a few closets. I was reading the other night before bed and looked up to see Henley looking at me like, WTF is this?? Ha! Little does she know, my pillow closet to the left still has some serious work that needs to be done.

Hoping for lots of progress this week at the house. In my mind, we should potentially see a second story going up. Clearly I know how long this should all take given my 3x daily drive-bys on the golf cart 😉

Around Town & For Fun

This week absolutely flew by. After the holiday on Monday, it was a really busy week for both of us. Friday night we joined our usual crew and some visitors at Amigos.

The sunset was pretty wild. I’ve only seen this spotlight style sunset one other time and I remember it being last year on our golf cart one night. The line was so sharp and distinct, which was so odd but beautiful! I also loved that you could see a hazy moon peeking out above!

Never a dull moment!

Saturday we spent a lot of time at Rachel and Chris’ new build getting photos and measurements for us to use as we start planning our new build (since we’ll have the same floor plan). They’re set to close THIS FRIDAY which is really exciting! But I’ve been reminding Kurtis that we really need to nail down a few decisions, as some will affect electrical locations, etc. and we’re really trying to minimize change requests down the road. I imagine we’ll have our electrical walk-through in the not too distant future, so I’m really trying to be as prepared as possible!

After spending an hour or so at their new build, Rachel, Kurtis and I toured another gorgeous new build in our neighborhood. It’s already sold, but the builder, Key Lime Construction, sent me access info so I could tour it. There is so much fun personality in this house and I love so many of the details! The trim work to the tile to the lighting and more just all felt so elevated and I love how unique it was! One of the owners saw my Instagram story and let me know the blue trim is Benjamin Moore Smoke, which is the color in our dining room!

Hawkeye has been very adventurous lately, and has been wanting to explore spaces outside of the catio. He’s always loved the front porch, but over the weekend he begged to go out our side door and then also out past the back screen-in porch. He very much needs to be supervised, so we took a handful of five minute strolls together.

Sunday morning, after hanging the outdoor drapes, we headed down to the beach for lunch and to relax for a few hours. Rachel, Chris and Cam joined us for a bit and it was such a beautiful day! The humidity wasn’t nearly as intense as the prior week and it was great to get out in the sun and water for a few hours.

After a quick shower and blow dry, Kurtis and I headed out for sushi. Anyone else absolutely hate showering and then having to blow dry their hair immediately after? I can’t cool down the rest of the night! So, I threw my hair in a low bun and called it a day. I really need to figure out some easy, cute post-beach hairstyles that still look nice but don’t require a lot of hot tools! Here’s what I wore.

We went to Shaka in Inlet Beach. We always really like their sushi and were happy to see they refreshed the decor a bit since the last time we’d been in. If you ever go, the Endless Summer roll is my all-time favorite. It has super thin slices of lemon on it, and mixed with the salmon and other ingredients, it’s so perfect for summer!

Kurtis has to travel for work for most of the next two weeks, so it was nice to have a pretty chill weekend to wrap up a few projects and enjoy the weather!

Fantastic post! That pic of you two on the ladder is adorable and I thought, “whoa, I hope osha or whoever doesn’t see that.” Haha. Love Arizona but you make Florida look really enticing.
