Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend! It’s hard to believe fall is officially here on Saturday and we’ll already be into October two weeks from today. Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

We spent most of our down time this past weekend out in the carriage house. My energy levels still haven’t been 100% after being sick the week before, but definitely improving! We’ve been putting the finishing touches on the carriage house for the arrival of Kurtis’ sister and brother-in-law on Saturday. They’ll be staying with us for about three weeks so we’ve been washing linens (our washer and dryer finally arrived), hanging art and mirrors, washing slipcovers, etc.

CARRIAGE HOUSE SOURCES: Rattan Desk | Rattan Chair | Coral Mirror

Over in the little dining corner, the jute rug I ordered arrived so we got that set in place. It’s the round version of the one we had in our Omaha bedroom (and previously my office). I’m actually considering getting a large one for the living room because we need one badly in there!

After I took this picture, I also pulled the chair pad covers and washed them all. They had gotten a little dingy through the last two moves, but they washed up like a dream and now look good as new! We also brought out the extra chair, and have the fourth over at the desk shown above for extra seating if it’s ever needed.

SOURCES: Rattan Dining Chairs | Round Dining Table | Round Jute Rug

In the carriage house bedroom, we took the bed apart to place the rug pad and rug. Not ideal, but we found it much easier than trying to lift the bed to place it all!

Since the carriage house is nearly 100% finished for the time being, I plan to add a bit of decor like throw pillow and greenery and then I’m going to photograph it to share on the blog. It’s such a cute little space, and Kurtis and I keep saying we’re just going to move out there 😉 I’m hoping to wrap everything up by Tuesday or Wednesday so I can then photograph it all and share on the blog yet this week!

Moving over to the main house, we hung this scalloped wood mirror that finally arrived in the bathroom adjoining our bedroom. I’ll show more when we do a full house tour, but we’re actually “using” the bathroom that’s hooked to my office to get ready rather than this one. But the mirror is gorgeous in person!

Lastly, we received our automated woven wood shades for the loft and got those hung. I am so in love with them! Very happy with the quality and overall ease of install. We ordered the same ones for our living room because Kurtis prefers the automated shades (rather than the plantation shutters) near the TVs. He’s been a little spoiled over the years 😉 But the living room shades were just delivered this morning so hopefully we can get them installed tonight. I’ll plan to do a full post on the shades because I know there will be a lot of questions about them. But you can get them non-automated as well, so lots of options. The sizes are all custom for your window, so they do take about a month to arrive, but well worth the wait! And much more affordable than ones we’ve used in the past!

LOFT SOURCES: Sectional | Rug | Cabinet | Frame TV | Woven Roman Shades | Console Table | Coral Style Mirror | Slim Step Stool

In Case You Missed It

Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!

Around Town & For Fun

Kurtis was in Omaha several days last week, and will be headed back later this week as well. It’s been a busy month of travel for him!

Friday night, our friends Marissa and Jake hosted a murder mystery party. They’re expecting a baby mid-October and she really wanted to host before then. It was such a fun night! I was assigned the role of the picky and very strict HOA president, and Kurtis was essentially the rich, partying, neighborhood douche bag. I would argue he took his role possibly the most seriously and had people laughing all night!

Marissa is the queen of charcuterie spreads. This was only about half of it! But it was such a great option for us to graze while we were playing out the mystery. Lots of questions on those cloches when everyone saw them in stories. You can get them here. They are stunning!

Here is the whole crew in costume. It was such a fun night! Marissa put together a quick video here to share where she found the kit and all the other details. We were all given a paragraph about our characters so we could arrive in character. She handled everything else!

To be honest, I can’t even wrap my head around Halloween and fall approaching, let alone thinking about the holidays. I’m seeing Christmas content out there already and I’m over here still embracing summer. Ha!

My desk finally arrives this week, so we had to move everything out of my office to get the new rug down. We were working in the room for about 30 minutes, I had vacuumed everything, and Hawkeye did not budge. He literally laid in his basket like this the entire time. Such a goofball!

We then found Henley in our bathroom in her little wicker house on top of the chair where we had left it. She obviously didn’t care that we had moved it 😉

We just love our new street so much! The view from my office is so beautiful and it’s been fun to watch multiple sets of wildlife hang out around the pond.

Since we have so little light pollution around here, the stars can be pretty spectacular. There was a really clear night last week that was pretty amazing! This was just taken with my iPhone so really doesn’t do it justice, but it’s so peaceful!

Saturday, we finally had our “pool school” class so we have everything with the pool and spa up and running now. I still haven’t gone in yet, so looking forward to that! I also want to work on some planters a bit, but since we do have four seasons in this area of Florida, I’m a bit limited on what I can use that won’t die over the winter.

POOL DECK SOURCES: Chaise Lounge Chairs | Reversible Paisley Pillows | Striped Pool Floats | Swivel Glider Chairs | Fluted Planter

We spent so much time around the house unpacking and prepping, that we really didn’t get out much other than Friday night! I’m hoping my energy levels fully return this week. I’m ready to get fully unpacked and then start to enjoy the fall weather and our new pool!

We head to Minnesota next week for my cousin’s wedding, so it will be fun to spend time with my side of the family! And we’re counting down the hours until Kurtis’ sister and brother-in-law arrive later this week!

Have to say I loved your costumes for the murder mystery gala. And you’re right, Kurtis epitomized the rich Neighborhood douche bag. But your picky HOA president was spot on also.

We have an annual Halloween costume party for around 80-100 people. I know what my husband’s and my costumes will be for next year.

    Still chuckling……

The views, both inside and out look wonderful! Would have loved to be a mouse in the corner of your murder mystery part to watch you and Kurtis be in my mind so very out of character! You both looked so awesome! 😀

Everything looks so beautiful! Wondering what brand are your plantation shutters? Are they wood?

Thank you! I ordered them thru a local designer. The invoice says they are Alta Eclipse Shutters in polyresin. They were very reasonably priced. I hope that helps!

I also live in Florida, and I am still embracing summer as well! It’s hard to get into “fall” mode when it’s hot and steamy, and you’re on hurricane watch.

Love, Love, Love the carriage house and the costume party! Have you shared what color/brand white paint is on the exterior near the pool/outdoor space? I would love to know!
