Good morning! I hope you all had a great holiday weekend. We’re officially moved into our new house, and it feels great to be here! Here’s what we’ve been up to this past week.

Home Projects & Updates
We had our final walkthrough of the house Monday, closed on the house Tuesday afternoon, and then officially moved Wednesday. But, since we had the keys Tuesday night, our builder let Kurtis and I start driving things over from the house. We were too excited to wait for the movers! We mostly just ran some loads with clothes (left on the hangers) and some of the more fragile items. We also unpacked a bit of the kitchen. When we were almost done, we remembered we forgot to take a proper photo documenting the new house. So, a sweaty, tired selfie had to suffice 😉 You can also see our temporary fridge they had to loan us. Our actual fridge will hopefully be here this week!
By the end of Wednesday my office looked like below. And honestly, only about half of it has been dealt with as of this morning.
I ordered this Etsy rug for our loft upstairs and was thrilled with the quality and colors. They offer it in a variety of sizes, and I’m considering another one or two from their shop. They’re all hand-made and shipped from Turkey, so it does require a little lead time, but I thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality and customization levels! The round coffee table we’ve had for four and a half years is $150 off today!
Anyone remember my Omaha days with the pillow cover closet? Well, it’s back in action and I couldn’t be more excited. This is by far the easiest way I’ve found to store seasonal pillow covers. I basically just have several sets of inserts that are always in use, and then I just rotate the covers when I feel like it. The bulk of these are solid linen and velvet options that work with a number of other options.
Yesterday we popped back to the carriage house to work on a few things over there. Our first guests arrive in less than two and a half weeks so we need to get it all prepped! The only thing I have purchased new for the space is the coffee table (an outlet find, but this color is $400 off today on the regular site) and this budget-friendly dining table. Other than that, it’s all items we’ve owned previously, but paired with different items so it all feels new again!

I’m particularly loving the blue coffee table with this block print jute rug!
Our pool isn’t officially “open” yet. We have to go through pool school with the pool company (hopefully this week), and then they’ll get it all cleaned and up and running for us. But, that didn’t stop me from styling it a bit yesterday when the sun finally came out! We are both so eager to jump in!

Our tenants also moved into our prior house yesterday! So, we also spent time making sure everything was 100% out, hauling some final items, and having everything cleaned. But we’re excited for them to get to enjoy our first Florida house that we loved so much!

In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!
Around Town & For Fun
As mentioned, moving and the process that goes with it consumed most of our week last week. Thankfully we were not impacted by Hurricane Idalia and only had to deal with some wind and rain for a few hours of the move each day. Praying you were all safe and not impacted, as well. Our neighbor captured this next photo for us the evening we were first in the house. The movers called it quits late in the afternoon when the rain really picked up (and came back the next day). But there was such a pretty rainbow over our home that first night!
The cats officially have their own “bedroom” in the new house and we’re all pretty dang excited about it. We’ve had them sleep in there the past few nights while they get acclimated to the new space. But really it’s just a room with their food and water, and the adjoining bathroom holds their litter boxes. Henley loves her new bedroom view 😉
Since the movers ended up splitting the move into two days because of the weather, they left their floor pads and bumpers out that first night. We all loved this floor mat that had just enough cushion on it.
The new catio is also rather popular, but unfortunately none of our furniture is here yet for the space. I did bring Bailey’s little outdoor Walmart ottoman out here, but they’re just happy to roam at this point.
The cats seem to have handled the move like pros. We tried to recreate a few of their favorite spots from the old house in the new one to help them adjust.
Kurtis’ Hard 60 ended Saturday, so he enjoyed a little football and the Iowa game and then we headed to Amigos for dinner. He of course chose tacos and a margarita for his first drink in 60 days!
By Monday, we needed a break from the unpacking! We spent a few hours in the morning working on a few things. One item on the list was saving a bunch of frogs from the pool and hot tub. Hopefully that isn’t a regular chore 😉 The cats were very interested in what was happening.
But we then headed to the beach for the afternoon! With the packing and weather recently, we hadn’t been down for a few weeks so it was great to be out! It was busy but the weather was absolutely gorgeous since it had finally cooled down a bit.
We ended the day with a post-beach dinner with friends at the new Idyll Hounds Proper. The food was excellent and it was fun to see so many neighbors and friends there too. The decor isn’t really my vibe but it’s a fun spot for local beers and great food. We actually sat outside since it was such a beautiful night and enjoyed the live music in the green at 30Avenue. We’re definitely now heading into the season where it’s mostly locals around here, and I sort of love the small town vibes!
We’re very much looking forward to getting even more settled this week! I’ve had several questions come in about when I’ll be sharing a full house tour, and the honest answer is “I don’t know”. I may end up doing a mini tour of sorts since I know we have a lot of unpacking and organizing to do. We’re also still missing some furniture (the 6′ card tables are back as our desks). Kurtis is pretty stoked to have a dedicated home office now. Even with the 6′ card table 😉 But his desk arrives Thursday. Mine I ordered over a year ago is still in limbo. I’m about ready to give up on it!
But I think by next week there are enough areas I could give sneak peeks of! I really appreciate all of you hanging around as long as you have given that the styled home content has been lacking the last 18 months. But we’re in the home stretch now, and I’m so excited to share some of these spaces with you!

Congrats! I have enjoyed following your journey and now you are finally settled in your new “nest”. Love the carriage house, one more mini house that you can decorate for every season!
Sarah says
Thank you so much!
Carmen says
Don’t feel bad Sarah! Speaking for myself but I think I’ve enjoyed following along with the building process more than seeing perfectly styled spaces! But it’ll definitely be fun seeing more of the home now that you’ve moved in!
Long time reader here. Love your blog!
Carmen
Sarah says
Thank you Carmen! And thank you for reading all these years 🙂
Denise says
No need to apologize at all! As much “fun” as it is building you one’s own home, it’s almost as much watching someone else do it. (Don’t miss the surprises at all, lol, and there always are surprises.) Looking forward to seeing more of your home as well as how your vision plays out.
Sarah says
Thank you Denise! I definitely won’t miss the surprises either 😉
Janelle says
Congrats on moving into your new home! No apologies necessary for me, I’ve enjoyed reading and following along on your journey. Looking forward to what you will do style-wise.
Sarah says
Thank you Janelle!
Carol H. says
Congratulations on your new home! Quite a move with a house and carriage house to set up. Will be wonderful to see everything when you’ve settled in. The pool is picture postcard perfect (as is the beach). So incredibly intuitive of you to “recreate” the cats chilling spot.
Sarah says
Thank you Carol! We’re excited for all of it!
Karen says
It isn’t even my new home, but I am so excited to see you get moved in!
Definitely take an informal tour (boxes and all) of the new spaces. Those of us who have been along for the build will appreciate seeing it in any shape ;-).
Also the tour will be a great documentation to have to show the before and afters that will be coming in the next months and years.
Sarah says
Thank you Karen! And I really like that idea!
Sharon says
I am shocked your community allows you to rent out your carriage house!!
Sarah says
They would if it were a long-term renter, but we are not doing either. By guests I meant Kurtis’ sister and brother-in-law who are coming to stay for three weeks 🙂 We are renting out the house we lived in previously though (long-term) so those are the other tenants I was referring to. Our neighborhood does not allow short-term rentals.
Sue says
Congratulations on your new house and move-in!!
Sloane says
So excited for you to move in! You may have to get one of those “escape” things for frogs if they keep ending up in your pool. Amazon sells a few. Enjoy Pool School! Ha ha!
