Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a nice (and safe) weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to this past week.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

Lots to report from the new house this week! It’s looking like we’ll be moving early to mid next week and we can’t wait! Our pool and hot tub were completed (the hot tub now has water since this photo and the pavers have all been cleaned). They also finished the fireplace since this photo.

They installed Kurtis’ grill and he was thrilled to find out it has lights inside and on the knobs. It’s the little things that make him happy 😉

The floors were finally uncovered because Friday was our CO (certificate of occupancy) inspection! Can’t wait to move all my stuff into the new office. Mostly so I don’t have to share an adjoining space with the cats’ litter boxes 😉

Sadly, we failed our CO, but our builder warned us it was coming. They basically go into it knowing they’ll fail (as do other builders in this area), and then they’re given a punch list of items they need updated before we can move in. They’re confident they can knock out the list early this week. One of the biggest issues they’ll need to address is this section where our stairs turn. The smallest part on the turn has to be a minimum of 6″ deep and ours is 5.25″. So, they’re going to have to reconfigure this section on the landing.

They also installed our garage doors, and they’ve since been painted!

Our fireplace has been drywalled and fully painted since this photo.

The living room got majorly cleaned up over the week.

We also stopped over one night to measure for woven shades for the windows where we won’t be using plantation shutters.

Lots still to do, but we’re in the home stretch!

Around Town & For Fun

With Kurtis out of town for work and several of our friends also traveling, it was a heads-down kind of week for me. I focused on packing and wrapping up things I may not be able to get to otherwise over the next week. Henley was my super helpful assistant most of the week. I cleaned up a bunch of pillows we had stored on these chairs, and she went right back to the spot where she’d sit on them in our last house!

However, on Thursday morning, I carved out time to hit the Becasa annual sale. They also have the cutest clothes and home decor and the sale is always chaotic but so much fun! I snapped this picture right after the doors opened. The line had been across the street. I ran into several people I knew at the sale because it’s definitely the place to be 😉

I then had some errands to run in Destin. I quickly swung in Pottery Barn while I was there and saw a few things I liked but didn’t buy anything! If you’re not super into traditional fall colors, I thought this display with shades of blue and ivory was pretty and still feels fall-ish with all the cozy textures!

Whenever I have to drive over to Destin for something, I try to reward myself with a visit to my favorite art gallery in Grayton Beach, The Studio Gallery. I picked up a few fun mini watercolor shell pieces from Susie Bettenhausen for the new house and can’t wait to share them!

And since I was in Grayton Beach, I also ran into Seaside to stop at Cabana. It’s one of my favorite stores down here, but we try to avoid Seaside in the summer months because it’s always so dang busy. The summer season is over down here now that school is back in session, so I was anxious to stop in again! I always love this hidden little section back by the dressing rooms. There are always a few fun finds!

Kurtis got home from his work trip late Friday afternoon, and we spent most of the weekend packing and doing other miscellaneous tasks that need to be completed prior to the move. Sunday morning we had breakfast at Raw & Juicy and then quickly ran to our local farmer’s market.

I promised a look at this sweater once it arrived, so we took a pic at the new house when we stopped in yesterday! I’m also wearing these favorite $18 jeans and these cute under-$20 quilted ballet flats.

Lots of packing yet to do this week, but we’re highly motivated to get moved so it shouldn’t be anything too crazy.

I hope you all have a great week. We’re praying for safety and minimal damage for everyone in the path of Hurricane Hilary! Be safe friends!

I live in the area (Mack Bayou) and we built a house here too. Where are you getting your woven shades? We have a couple of rooms to finish where I also did not do plantation shutters. Thanks

There are a few rooms we wanted automated shades. The plantation shutters can also block a lot of light, and aren’t a great option for several of our exterior doors. So we’re going to try woven in those spaces!

Hi! I ended up ordering them through blinds.com (this style: https://rstyle.me/+Rb-I8zb6uzsYshF1GVEc5g). Kurtis really wanted a few automated on a few windows, and so we ordered those online. They won’t arrive for a few weeks but I’ll be sure to share if I like them!

Looking forward to the review of the shades. Have you purchased any pleated draperies online??

No, but funny you should ask. I think I’m going to order some of those TwoPages pleated curtains that everyone raves about. I’ll probably just start with the sliding doors to see how I like them. The size is super odd, so I can’t order stock sizes from other places. I’ll be sure to keep you posted!

Your flooring is so beautiful! Not too dark and not too light and exactly what my husband and I are looking for. Can you share the brand/name of it? Also what is the white paint color that you used throughout?
