Good morning! I hope you all had a nice weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week.

Home Projects & Updates
We visited the new house Monday and were laughing at the volume of spackle marks on the wall. I thought we’d be a little picky, but whoever looked over the upstairs was thorough. The walls were all covered like this. Definitely good to see!
In addition to painting the exteriors of our doors, I’m thinking I may ask if they’ll paint the interior the same color. They have to paint them regardless, so I hope that will save me some time if they can do it! I don’t want the color to be too overly saturated, so at this point, I think I’m going with the bottom color which is Sherwin Williams Niebla Azul. Our builder uses SW paint, and I don’t love color matching Benjamin Moore colors, so I figured I’d better stick with a true SW color. For reference, the top color is SW Languid Blue. You can see more of my favorite blue gray paint colors in this post.

Here you can see a closer look. The colors are a bit hard to judge in photos, particularly since we typically stop by the house in the evenings once the crew has left. But there are so many great blue gray paint colors available that I think either would be pretty. I’m just wanting something a little more subtle this time around that our previous front door and our kitchen islands.
Here is the same color (Niebla Azul) in our entryway. They finally peeled the masking fluid off the windows so we have some natural light again!
The carriage house walls and ceiling were all painted and it’s starting to look like a finished space out there! Paint color out here is also Sherwin Williams Snowbound.
Moving outside, things are moving along nicely as well! I’m loving the large rope pendant lights we added to the space. This week, the outdoor kitchen and possibly all the screens around the porch will be installed!
They also wrapped up most of our fence. It will be like our neighbor’s that you can see through the cabana. The top portion will be lattice-like and then it will all be painted white. They’re also super close to finishing the cabana. They have to wrap up the rest of the slat wall, add some more paint, wrap up the fireplace (including the shell stucco) and it will be good to go! The pool company is also supposed to come out this week to apply the pebble tec finish and get it all up and running!
And in really “this is getting real” news, they started our landscaping and sprinkler system Friday and had most of it wrapped up by Saturday afternoon! I found out our county requires landscaping to be complete and a run-off study done before they’ll issue a CO (certificate of occupancy) for someone to move in! All of the CO inspections are hopefully taking place late this week or early next week. Which means the house will essentially be DONE and then it’s just the punch list items.
We didn’t have much say in our landscaping. Everyone gets a live oak tree, everyone gets a few columnar magnolias, and then they just had some beds and berms with a mix of native plants. Our HOA is super strict on plants and trees, so it makes it easy the builder includes all of this to get us up and running.
My creative juices have been going wild these past few weeks, now that the house is almost complete! I told Kurtis I’m ready to get in there with my “real” camera and start styling and photographing again. I’m sure the house will be a continual work in progress for the next few years, but I’m excited to start sharing that process again with you all!

In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!
Around Town & For Fun
One of my favorite ways to start the day is when we can get down to Alys Beach early for a light breakfast. These palm trees still make me smile everytime I see them! They had to get a major haircut after the harsh winter caused many fronds to freeze, so I’m glad to see they’re recovering nicely!
Inspiration around every corner in Alys Beach.
Thursday night, Kurtis and I attended a free concert at Watersound Pavillion. The performer was Jeffrey Steels, someone Kurtis has met and loved for years so he was excited for me to see him! He’s a singer/songwriter and has written songs for Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Zach Brown Band, Montgomery Gentry, and so much more. It was a really fun night and there was a great turnout! Unfortunately it was the last free concert of the summer, and we didn’t really take much advantage of it other than the summer kick-off one. But now we know for next summer to check it out more frequently!
I’ve had more shipments arriving and had temporarily stacked these ottoman cubes like this while I was moving things around. Of course Hawkeye took it as an opportunity to use it as his new perch. He is beyond fearless and a little bit too mischievous for his own good 😉
I couldn’t stop laughing when Kurtis texted me this picture of the girls out back. Like, what is even happening here?!
Saturday afternoon, I co-hosted a baby shower for our friend Marissa! Her baby boy is coming this fall and we couldn’t be more excited. We planned the party theme around the cute lime green dress she found. It was such a fun afternoon and evening! I’ve definitely learned quickly down here that women nearly always wear dresses to any sort of event. I’m glad I’ve been slowly collecting some (I wore this eyelet dress) because, of the 15 attendees, I think every single one had a dress or skirt on!
I made these flower and citrus arrangements for the decor. I pretty much just winged it, but thought they turned out really cute! Â They were relatively affordable too, considering their size (only $33.20 each which included literally everything down to the vase and the foam inside)! These $5.22 glass cylinder vases are so perfect for arrangements like this – I have no idea how they’re so affordable. I have a quick video tutorial you can watch if you want to check it out!
Sunday, we had to do a glucose curve on Bailey, which requires us to test her blood sugar every two hours starting at 6:00 am. So, we pretty much hung around the house and did some laundry, cleaning and packing. Not super exciting, but has me ready to tackle the week ahead! We only have two weeks left of prep before the move, so it’s go-time!

So exciting! It’s all coming together for you guys. I love the blue-gray paint you tentatively chose. The rope pendant light is so cool! Is that the front of your house in the landscaping photo? It is gorgeous! And I love the look of those trees over the top of your backyard fence. Oh, and you looked so cute in the yellow dress!
Sarah says
Thank you so much Linda! And, yes, that is the front of the house in the landscaping pic 🙂

Wow, your home is really getting there! It’s going to be so beautiful! I can’t wait to see it after you’ve put your finishing touches on everything. We recently bought a home in Ft Meyers that we will be updating. It is super dark at this point, the previous owners went with a more Tuscan look…think columns with faux finishes…dark tan walls, etc…..I want to go with a more coastal look with some vintage thrown in…anyway, I’m wondering what paint finishes you have on your walls, doors and trim..I have chosen SW Pure White for all of the painted surfaces. I’m also trying to figure out countertops…do you have any advice there? I have honed marble in my Dallas home and have loved it but wondering what else I should consider. You have done such beautiful work on your homes, I would appreciate any pointers. Also, do you do design consultations? Thanks so much.
Sarah says
Thank you Sharon! On the walls they did a flat paint (I would probably recommend eggshell though, unless you use a washable matte/flat) and the trim/doors/shiplap are semi-gloss in the same color (SW Snowbound). We really like the combo! We’re doing honed quartzite in our kitchen and laundry and like it so far. With how much light this house gets, I think the polished would have driven me crazy because you would see every little thing. And at this time, I do not do design consultations but appreciate you thinking of me!
