This velvet ruffle pillow looks amazing but can be tricky to make.
Today after church and a quick trip to Lowe’s, I made a decorative velvet ruffle pillow to go with the pillows I made yesterday. I followed the directions from here. I have never worked with brown velvet before and it was a mess. Not only does it shed little balls when you try to make the ruffles, but it frays very badly. Although, when I checked the tutorial I think her velvet frayed even more.  I know it is kind of the style now but the husband isn’t a huge fan {and honestly I prefer a cleaner edge too}.  I think the end product turned out pretty cute but I am not sure I am willing to make a second one {this one took me about three and a half hours}. Not to mention, velvet is NOT cheap and those ruffles take a lot of fabric. The best part – this was my first attempt at ruffles. So, it was definitely a learning process. I didn’t realized how much they would shrink up width wise, hence the random spaces in between each column.
Don’t mind the strings in the bottom left corner – I clearly need to clip those. I love the look of velvets for fall and the holidays. What do you think – make a second ruffled one or stick with a basic square?
