2017 Summer Home Tour

Decorating Ideas, Tips and Trends, Home Tour

Today is one of my favorite days in blogging of the entire year: 2017 summer home tour day! I’ll be sharing part of our summer home this week and then a bit more next week. Summer is by far my favorite season and I love seeing other’s homes all ready for the hot summer months!

Today I’ve teamed up with my friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life, along with a group of bloggers all week, to share our tour. And if you’re stopping in from Nesting With Grace, isn’t Brooke’s home so cute?! You can find the full list of those on the tour at the end of this post, so be sure to stop by and visit all of them!

Even though we live nowhere near the beach here in Nebraska, I like to pretend we do.

I don’t typically share this little offshoot of our entryway (at the base of the staircase) because it’s nearly impossible to photograph. Yesterday morning, the sun was reflecting just right, and illuminated this dark little corner, so I thought I’d share it today! I don’t change things up that much here, but my friend Mandy was selling those x-stools recently on our local Facebook page, and I bought them before someone else could! They were originally from Target, but they definitely have a higher-end vibe!

A beachy entryway vignette with blue and white patterned x-leg benches, seagrass basket, fiddle leaf fig stems, recycled glass vases, framed agate artwork, a wood frame, black mirror and navy blue velvet pillow.

ENTRWAY SOURCES: Framed Agate Wall Art | Tuscan Vase | Faux Fiddle Leaf Fig Branches | Upholstered X-Benches | Similar Console Table | Similar Black Beveled Mirror | Similar Glass Bottles

Moving down our main entryway hallway, I like to accessorize a bit to keep the long hallway from looking too plain. But, I still keep it pretty simple! I haven’t been able to find the perfect piece of artwork to hang above the bench, but I’m hoping I’ll have something soon!

A coastal style entryway with linen bench, striped throw, blue and green recycled glass vases, polished nickel swing-arm sconces and gingko stems make the perfect beachy vibe!

This collection of recycled glass vases is perfect for a coastal vibe. Love the ginkgo greenery as well!

Past our entryway hallway is our living room, kitchen and dining room. I made some new throw pillows for summer using this fabric, and I love the water-like effect on the fabric! This giant wooden chain (similar here) is one of my favorite purchases of the year so far!

The dark leather chairs always feel heavy for the beachy vibe I’m wanting, so I usually add a seasonal throw to the back to lighten them up and add some pattern and color. I found these striped throws at HomeGoods recently.

Love this idea: lighten dark leather furniture (chairs or couches) by adding a light, colorful throw over the back. This blue and white striped throw adds a coastal vibe and helps lighten the dark leather chair.

I found these glass beads on our recent trip to California and I love the coastal vibe they add to our large demijohn glass bottle!

Sea glass beads on a large demijohn vase. Love this coastal style vignette that's perfect for a blue and white living room!

I like to keep the living room fairly neutral because I really want the view out the windows to be the star. I tried to share a blip of that view below (even though I know the photo is a bit wonky). But the view of our pool and yard is one of my favorites and adds so much color to the space that isn’t always reflected in the photos!

In our kitchen, I tend to keep things fairly simple by updating our dish towels seasonally. I also added this lemon tree and new runner (our striped rugs were showing their age). I’d really love to paint the island sometime this summer, taking it from black to either navy blue or a warm beige color.

I love changing up the textiles in our guest bedrooms for the various seasons. This time around, I also added a new nightstand (it’s actually more of a table) and I love the character it adds. Plus, stripes! I still need to add the feet to the piece, but for now I’m loving the look in here!

Our courtyard got a refresh for summer and I love the pattern the striped outdoor rug brings to the space! I recently moved the oleander trees further away from the house (thanks to all of your advice!) but otherwise,  the space still looks the same!

Thank you! They’re from World Market. We’ve had them a few years (and still love them) but they still carry them here: http://bit.ly/2rSPS1a.

Thank you! It was actually here when we bought the house. It’s basically just two really large fence panels (I believe they are eight or ten feet high). You should check with your local fence company to see if they have something similar 🙂

Love the green glass bottles. It doesn’t look like you have a place for sitting comfortably at the table outside. There’s no leg room.

Thank you so much! We got the sofa and chairs at Nebraska Furniture Mart five or six years ago. They are all Bernhardt brand if that helps!
