The Painted Interior Front Door

Decorating Ideas, Tips and Trends

I am thinking that the painted interior front door may need to be transformed again!

Hey guys! I’m popping in today for a really quick question and to have you weigh in on something. To be honest, I don’t do this often enough and many times feel like I have to have a long, elaborate post in order to pop in. But not today!

Over the past year, I’ve really decided I’m not a gray paint person. The rooms where I’ve gone with gray paint, I’ve wanted to re-paint within a few months. I actually prefer warmer tones paired with whites and blues. And as much as I love the current color of our painted interior front door (Behr Elephant Skin) I’m not sure it’s for me. So, as I’ve been painting the office white (with the navy accent wall – Benjamin Moore Hale Navy) I’ve been contemplating painting our front door to match. Or in a warm taupe color. Or a light blue/gray. Keep in mind, I still need to paint the ceiling here white (it’s currently the same cream color of our trim) to brighten things up a bit. Fortunately, this would be a super quick and affordable makeover! The walls are currently Behr Castle Path for those curious.

Interior Front Door Color: Front door color is Behr Elephant Skin and the walls are Behr Castle Path. There is a chandelier in the entreyway.

And now a little inspiration.

I posed the question last night on Instagram and my Facebook page got a lot of great feedback! And now, I’d love to hear your thoughts! So, what’s your vote?

And if you’d like to see this space way back in the day, you may enjoy this post, this post, and this post 🙂 Sometimes I forget just how far my decor has come!

Side note: I’ve also realized the gold trend isn’t my thing, so that sunburst mirror (which has lasted over four years in this spot) may be the next thing to go! I actually love the look (along with gray paint) in other homes, but I’ve realized it’s not for me. Oh, and for those that are going to tell me to remove the carpet from the stairs, I’d love to! It’s just not in the budget currently. Hardwood on stairs is not cheap! But, it is on our five-year plan 🙂

Have a great weekend!

I love it the way it is now but for a change I would go with Navy! What sheen you use for interior doors? I’m thinking about painting my pantry door the color that you currently have on your interior front door 🙂

I used a satin sheen on this one. Typically I do trim and doors in a semi-gloss, but with the color I thought anything glossier might be a bit much. I hope that helps!

Your house is beautiful! So glad to hear you admit you’re not a gray or gold person. Almost every blog or Pin these days makes us readers feel like something is wrong with us and our homes if we don’t follow these trends. Like you, I’ve made the decision to do what I want in my own home even if that’s not what’s considered on trend. I also use a lot of beiges, blues and whites and our home is cozy, welcoming and reflects our style both today and into the future – long after the gray and gold trends have run their course. I have a friend who is re-doing every inch of her home right now (flooring, paint, light fixtures, hardware, etc.) to reflect these trends and I’m afraid she is going to have big regrets down the road – as it most definitely isn’t her style. It’s just something she feels “pressured” to do thanks to Pinterest. Ridiculous – stay true to yourself!! It’s YOUR home.

Hi, Sarah! I’ve been reading your blog for years, and your home is absolutely beautiful! For your front door, I think navy would be stunning!

As I mentioned on IG last night, you may want to do green…..one of those crispy clear clean shades from your decor
Not black or neutral….you are not that girl!

So I’m contemplating the same thing – I just painted our living room/entryway Ben Moore Chantilly Lace and it’s the perfect white for the space but I’d love to add some color to the front door and I’m thinking a lighter blue/gray so I’m really liking that Cape May Cobblestone but then that rich taupe color is really pretty too! Can’t wait to see what you pick!

Love the idea of Hale Navy. Your entryway will totally pop from the contrast between the wall color and door.

By the way, I have the same mirror and the gold was a little much for me when I got it home, so I spray painted it. Looks great in a verdigris-like color!

I think a darker color would be best. Navy or something similar. But ultimately go with your gut feeling, it is your space to live in and love.

I love your decor style and following along and immediately I thought, yes, NAVY!!! Go for it… oh, and check out the rug placement in a couple of your inspiration photos. Might you try moving your rug to flow vertically into your home? Just a thought that struck me when I first looked. :o)

Navy is what I’m leaning towards too! I’ve actually tried the rug vertically, and while I love how it looks,t it doesn’t work practically because then people walk on the hardwood instead of the rug when they walk in the door (which defeats the purpose). I can’t go any larger with the rug either, unfortunately, because of the heat registers on the floors 🙂

Both the interior and the exterior of my front door is Hale Navy. I love it! It’s such a neutral navy…if there is such a thing!

I know it’s been awhile but I believe the last one is Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray (not Kendall Charcoal as you said). I love them all but the Cape May Cobblestone is so European – it’s unexpected, airy and lovely!!
