Outdoor Updates and Summer Home Tour Series

Landscaping and Outdoor Spaces

I am sharing with you some outdoor updates in our yard that we worked hard on!

Last weekend we made some updates to our yard. To us it felt drastic {and required 10+ hours of my time} but in looking at the photos it’s amazing how minor the changes seem. Hopefully we’ll have some more dramatic before and afters by the time this summer wraps up!

In the front yard, off the corner of our house, I planted two lovely hydrangea bushes that get rather wide and tall {upwards of 6-8 feet}. We also replaced the mulch for an updated fresher look. I can’t wait to have fresh hydrangeas and clip the flowers all summer long once these bushes mature!

This is the side backyard {next to our garage}. The prior homeowners had raspberry and strawberry bushes here, which we quickly learned were our worst nightmare. Last fall we had some bushes added, but it still was lacking. So a few weekends ago, I planted extra knockout roses, some lavender, pompous grass and daylilies. My husband also refreshed the mulch. It isn’t anything spectacular right now, but I managed to exercise some patience and plant the smallest bushes Lowe’s had in order to save some cash. Simply because I know by the end of the summer these will double in size. I hope.

I still don’t feel like the bed size here is right and I ultimately would like a columnar tree off the corner, but I think the progress we made is a good start!

The back hill is still sort of a train wreck even after we had sod laid down in place of most of the flower beds. We’re now contemplating a fence on the back side of the yard to combat all the weeds that come over. In the portion that still has a flower bed, I added some pompous grass {to hopefully cover the electrical boxes one day} and transplanted a smaller rose bush from another area of the yard. Again, I need these bad boys to grow like crazy! Soon!

I’m hoping I’ll have some much more significant before and afters later this summer once all these plants have a little time to grow. I love putting in long hours in the yard the beginning of summer so that we can enjoy the improved view throughout the remainder of summer!

Lastly, speaking of summer, I have joined an amazing group of ladies to share our summer home tours! The tours start today {mine will be tomorrow}. Be sure to check out all of these amazing homes!

Today we are kicking off a week of 23 inspiring house tours by some amazingly talented bloggers!
