A Year of Change: July’s Project

Landscaping and Outdoor Spaces

This month’s year of change challenge was to makeover an area we have neglected {you can read more here}. In addition to the usual crew {Suburban Bitches, Commona My House and Rosa Beltran Design}, we are also joined by our guest designer, Paige, from The Pink Clutch!

My project this month is incredibly low-key compared to my craft room makeover last month {I know I mentioned I was possibly going to work on the dining room, but timing just didn’t allow for it this month}. At first I felt guilty for this tiny project, but, then again, the point was to finish something that had been on the backburner in our homes for far too long. Enter my exterior lights on either side of our garages. As you can see below, the scale on the lights when we moved in was incredibly small. Not quite the ‘wow’ factor I like with lighting – where I always feel bigger is better.

We ended up purchasing the same lights we have in our courtyard – these ones from Lowe’s which are so economical compared to others I looked at in this size and style. I love that they also come in three sizes. Ours are the medium version (although I contemplated the large ones). I don’t think you can tell just how dramatically different the scale of the new lights is on the house, but as you can see below, the difference is huge!

The scale of the new lights is SO much better!

It feels great to finally have this project marked off “the list”. One of those changes that only took about an hour of our time but made such a big impact! But now I realize how badly I need to wash off our garage doors since I no longer am focusing on the puny lights 😉 Now, be sure to stop by and see what the other lovely ladies (Suburban Bitches, Commona My House, Rosa Beltran Design & The Pink Clutch) wrapped up around their homes this month!

Your new lights look great! I, too, subscribe to the bigger the better when it comes to outside lights.

What a difference. This project seems small, but has a big impact in curb appeal.

Love the light fixtures! They really do make a difference! I’m building right now and am doing board and batten and I absolutely LOVE the coloring of the shingles and board and bat. Do you happen to have those anywhere on file?

This is on our list too, and also changing our house number to a more modern style. Puny, builder lights are annoying.
