Vegas Strip to Rural Iowa

It was quite the extreme culture clash when I was in Las Vegas and then flew straight to rural Iowa!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that this past week I went from the Vegas strip for work straight to the cornfields of Iowa to help my lovely in-laws with their kitchen renovation. Talk about culture extremes! So, I thought I’d jointly share a Las Vegas hotel tour along with some updates on the demo work we did. I am beyond behind on my hotel tour series {and remember that time I said I spent two weeks in Europe and was going to post about that?!? Yeah. Some day}.

I left for Las Vegas on Tuesday and stayed at The Venetian for a work conference I had there. I hadn’t stayed at this hotel for close to ten years, so it has been remodeled since, and the new look was much more modern and fresh {I had previously always remembered the hotel as gaudy, fussy and overdone}. These pictures are only on my iPhone but I think it will give you a sense of my suite {the smallest room they offer}!

The bedroom area and the lower platform of the sitting area in the hotel.

The large bed in the Venetian with a small bench at the foot of the bed.A console table underneath the TV in the bedroom. The metal railing in the hotel bedroom separating the bedroom from the sitting area.A wooden hutch in the sitting area of the hotel room.

A velvet beige couch in the sitting area.

The bathroom in the Venetian with a large tub and mirror.

There is a tv on the wall mounted in the bathroom.

I have to say, Vegas is likely my least favorite location for work events. I used to love the city when I was younger, but now every time I go {which has only been for work the last five years or so} I dislike it more and more. The Vegas strip really shouldn’t be mixed with work. It’s just not a great combo in my mind! Love Vegas – hate it for work events.  The hotel accommodations were excellent. However, I always get annoyed by food and drink prices in Vegas now. Drinks at the pool were upwards of $16-18 and lunch prices were $15-$20 per person at the places I checked out. The food is always great, but the prices continue to astound me. All in all, I was very happy with this hotel!

Rural Iowa

Friday afternoon, we headed to rural Iowa to spend the weekend with my husband’s family and to help my in-laws gut the kitchen in their home that was built in the 1950’s.

Here is my in-law’s kitchen in the ‘before’ while we were taking out the last of the items in the wooden cabinets on Friday night, after the cabinets had been removed, and the after on Saturday evening once the plaster walls and ceiling {and a lot of blown-in insulation} had been removed.

The kitchen gutted down to the studs.

I’m so excited that they are finally getting the dream kitchen they have waited their entire marriage for! I’ll be sure to share more as this project progresses. I hope you all had a great weekend!

Haha! This post made me laugh as I currently live in Vegas but am from rural Iowa. Yes, it’s a cultural shock, but I love both for entirely different reasons. Can’t wait to see the updated kitchen.
