Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

We didn’t spend much time at the house this past week since our friends were in town. But they painted up some larger samples for us to look at. We’ve been trying to drive by at different times of day and in different lighting conditions. These were just a darker option (BM Coastal Fog and BM French Canvas) with SW Pure White on the trim. The Coastal Fog is similar to the raw siding color but you can see where it starts with the blue tape line on the left.

And here we were trying to sample the miniature shingle colors. We had already picked one based on another home in our neighborhood (since we could see it full-size) but wanted to compare all the other offerings to be safe! We’re likely going with the color on the bottom right (in the center panel) which is called Weathered Wood.

Today I need to schedule a follow-up appointment with the flooring and tile company because they’re ready to go in and measure and get everything ordered! We also received cabinet drawings and we need to make some decisions there, as well. We’re about to hit the point where I need all my selections wrapped up ASAP!

In Case You Missed It

Following are the posts I shared over the past week, in case you missed some days!

Around Town & For Fun

Early one morning, we both heard a loud thud outside. A bear had tipped over our next door neighbor’s garbage can and was enjoying some takeout. Kurtis scared him away, but the bear kept looking back at him, like “are you really serious or not”. Ha! Definitely heeding some of y’alls advice though and getting some bear whistles and horns for the golf cart and to have at the house.

On Wednesday morning, our besties and goddaughters arrived from Omaha! This is their fourth annual trip since we moved here and we always look forward to it! The girls are at such great ages now (Elle will be five this week and Zoe is seven). They play so well together and are total water babies. They probably would have swam 10 hours a day if we had let them!

The first day, we took the golf cart from Hola Beaches (where they were staying) over to the beach club. They swam for a few hours, we ate dinner, and then we headed down to the beach for sunset.

They were both so happy to be back in Florida! They told us they’re both going to move here with their husbands when they grow up 😉

Nick surprised Jill with family photos with our friend Guillaume with Family Photography 30A on the night of their first full day. They had us join them for a few of the photos. This one below is just from my iPhone! The shots G captured from this angle are absolutely breathtaking!

We got the images back this morning and they are all so so so good! Absolutely stunning! Guillaume’s photos are always so incredible and he made the process so smooth (and quick so the girls didn’t lose patience). Highly recommended! It’s such a great mix of posed and candid and they really capture each every person’s personality. I don’t want to give away all their final photos since I think they’ll use some for Christmas cards, etc. but I had to share two! Kurtis and I came home and laughed at how awkward we both were doing the couples pics (reminded us of our engagement pics 21+ years ago), but G still worked his magic! My favorites are all so darling and I think they call for another gallery wall! Can’t wait to share more soon.

They only gave us a few days notice we’d be in the pics so we had to shop our closets for outfit. I just wore this sweater and shorts since it was some of the few items I had in the color scheme!

After pictures wrapped up, we went to Citizen for dinner, since they had never been before!

The girls love the pools at Camp Creek so we spent two full days there, as well. They loved the mix of regular pools, lazy river, and the waterslide!

Friday after a day at the pools, we brought the crew to meet all of our Florida friends at Amigos! It was the first time they had all met and it was so wonderful to have them all get to meet each other since we talk so much about the one set to the other set and vice versa! We had also planned to celebrate Elle’s birthday afterwards, and go to a Taylor Swift dance party so it was a busy night!

Elle is in a baby loving phase, so Marissa was sweet enough to bring her family to the dinner chaos so that Elle could meet Kennedy. She was in heaven. She even got to help change her diaper!

Zoe made friends with Guillaume and Louise’s girls and they all had so much fun playing in the green for a bit!

When we asked Elle what type of birthday cake she wanted, she made it very clear we weren’t allowed to buy a real cake because it wasn’t her real birthday. Ha! She agreed that cupcakes were acceptable so we pre-celebrated with those!

After opening a few gifts, we then crossed the street to the Big Chill for a kids Taylor Swift dance party they were hosting. They also shared their first cotton candy of their lives and it certainly re-energized them!

These two dance hard for about 45 minutes or so! The DJ announced it was Elle’s birthday (Zoe filled him in) and she kept going back to tell him she’s still four and not five yet and it’s not her birthday. She’s a ham!

Saturday we hit the beach and pool again! The wind was making it rather rough, so our time on the beach was spent collecting seashells.

That night, we had bought tickets to the Pirates Voyage dinner and show in Panama City Beach. It’s a Dolly Parton production and we had heard so many great things about it. The girls, who love mermaids, got their faces painted and we had gifted them these mermaid tail skirts to complete their look. I’m pretty sure they would have had a blast with the pre-show entertainment alone!

When they saw the auditorium, they were blown away. The adults were too! The show was filled with pirate stories, aerialists, divers, animals (macaws, sea lions, dogs), and was very entertaining. The show was excellent and we all really enjoyed the food (you won’t leave hungry!). The drinks were total sugar bombs and not quite as enjoyable 😉 But if you’re ever visiting 30A, this show was so well-done and such a fun night!

Sunday was the guys’ annual dedicated football day. First we showed the whole crew our new house and then we went to Scout to have lunch together. Nick has been a lifelong Lions fan, so he got us all some gear to wear for a group photo.

The two Iowa boys that grew up about 20 minutes away from each other and didn’t know each other until Jill and I introduced them in 2012 and we moved onto the same street in Omaha!

We then parted ways so the guys could go watch football for a few hours, and Jill and I took the girls back to our house for some swimming. The weather forecast wasn’t great so we didn’t want to get stuck at the beach in a downpour. But the girls couldn’t care less if the sun was out or not and swam their little hearts out for a few hours. They got hit with the expected downpour and it only added to their fun!

We met back up with the guys for dinner. We had planned to go to Amici for Italian, but the wait was too long (I think another round of fall breakers arrived over the weekend). So we had Amigos again and then headed back to Hola Beaches to hang a bit longer before saying our goodbyes.

It’s always hard to say goodbyes but we’ll see them all again in two months! It was such a great week and we all had so much fun spending time together!

Kurtis and I each have travel work weeks coming up, and then my brother and sister-in-law will be visiting us the last week of October (followed immediately by Kurtis’ sister and brother-in-law). I can’t believe how quickly this year is flying by!
