Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend! It’s so hard to believe it was the last one of September, and we’re already moving into October on Wednesday. Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

This post contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Home Projects & Updates

The builder texted me late last week and said they were getting ready to soon paint a few samples on the siding for us. Outside of ordering more Samplize samples, I hadn’t done much work on figuring out exterior colors. But I thought the below pic would be helpful to see why you should always test colors in your own lighting and at different times of day. Don’t ever rely solely on online photos!! The top half of the image below was taken early morning with the sun out. Below that was evening when it was a bit overcast. These are the exact same colors in the exact same order but they look so different! I’ll share a dedicated post soon with what we’re leaning towards.

One of the most exciting things that happened late in the week? They started installing all our Euro-Wall sliders. I had really wanted French doors in both of these locations, but due to code on the area to the left, we’d only be able to do that with a small deck built out as far as the doors would swing. That would have encroached on the pool deck considerably, so I opted to have grids added to the doors instead for a similar vibe. I really like how they turned out!

Here’s a peek from the inside looking into the kitchen. It’s a bit more difficult to see with all the drywall, but I think it will be a fun change with the grids and give a more traditional rather than modern look.

You should have seen Kurtis’ face light up when he saw they installed his folding door out in his gym. This was intended to be a standalone garage, but we didn’t need an extra stall. So it’s perfect for his gym, which is why we opted to add a glass door on the back. He’ll be able to look out to the pond and the pool, which he’s really excited about. The space is rather small, but the door helps make it feel much larger! This is also Euro-Wall brand for those that were asking on Instagram. We had limited brand options since ours are all required to be impact resistant for hurricane code here.

I included this wreath in a recent collage I’ll be sharing here soon, but the wreath has already been selling quickly so thought I’d share it here. If you’re interested, be sure to check the coupon that’s currently available! It comes shipped in a pretty small box, but it’s easy to fluff up quickly.

Around Town & For Fun

As mentioned last week, one of my oldest blogging friends, Kelley, and her daughter Eliza planned a last-minute visit here and arrived on Sunday. I had to work for a few hours each morning so they’d do their own thing and then around 10:30 or so we headed to the beach both Monday and Tuesday.

We’d spend a few hours down at the beach, then head up to the pool area to grab lunch/snacks and hang out at the pool for a bit.

We had dinner Monday night at Amici (Kurtis joined us!), followed by sunset on the beach. It was such a beautiful evening, and Kelley thinks it may have been the first sunset she’s ever seen down to the horizon. So that was a lot of fun!

Eliza talked Kurtis into hunting for shells with her right up until sunset. So cute!

Sunsets at the beach just never get old!

Tuesday night, our local friends had a birthday party celebration for a few of the guys over at Chris and Rachel’s house so Kurtis headed to that. This might be an angle I haven’t shown of their house before (which is the same floorplan as ours will be) so you get a little sneak peek here 😉

Kelley, Eliza and I had dinner at Amigos, since our other options were in Rosemary Beach. Unfortunately, several of their restaurants don’t allow kids for dinner, but we were all happy at Amigos! We ended the night (and the trip) with a visit to our new house, a golf cart ride around the neighborhood, and then a treat at Nigel’s for Eliza! Isn’t she the cutest?!

They left back home bright and early on Wednesday morning, and it was such a fun few days having them here. Kurtis and I hadn’t ordered groceries all week, so we had a random mid-week date night at Cuvee, which is always so fun this time of year.

I spotted a random neighbor passing by while on the golf cart one day. I didn’t want to move him from wherever he was headed, but I alerted neighbors not to run him over. He made it safely to the woods! My friends already call me Steve Irwin, saving one turtle at a time around here. Ha!

Friday night was our usual Amigos dinner followed by hanging out on the green space. I think it was the first time the guys have ever taken advantage of playing with the cornhole sets!

We laid pretty low most of the weekend. I made my first batch of soup of the season (this yummy tortellini soup), despite it still being rather hot outside. I feel like hearing football on the TV just triggers comfort food though! Our friends from Omaha arrive on Wednesday so I spent much of the weekend working so I can focus on them while they’re here. The cats love when we have lazy weekends at home. Kurtis sent me the below pic of Henley during the Iowa football game and said he felt the same way. Hawkeye was concerned he was going to have a name change 😉

Sunday night we had bocce league! We had a smaller group and only one bocce set, so we played speed bocce. Something we all just made up. But we’d all throw our balls at the same time. It was actually really fun! Rachel’s mom joined us for dinner and she wanted to play Farkle afterwards, which we always enjoy! It’s getting darker here so much earlier now, and it’s always fun when we start seeing the stars again!

It should be a really fun week ahead with our Omaha besties and goddaughters coming to town! We have tickets to the new Dolly Parton Pirates Voyage dinner one night, which we’ve heard great things about, and we’ll be celebrating Elle’s fifth birthday while they’re here. The weather so far looks great so I’m guessing we’ll get lots of beach and pool time in, as well! I still can’t believe it will be OCTOBER when they arrive!

Before I sign off, I wanted to call out a quick sale. Weezie is offering 25% off sitewide for their birthday if you’ve ever wanted to try any of their products! We have their beach towels (one of our Peter Dunham fig leaf ones is shown below) and I have this robe and love them so much!

Your cats are so cute. We recently lost our old cat who we loved dearly. She slept a lot. We got 2 new kittens and they are crazy and always running around and scratching things. How do you keep your cats from destroying your furniture?

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your cat. It’s always so so hard to lose them. I love crazy kittens! Ours were actually were declawed as babies when we got them. They’re almost 18 years old now, but still act like kittens some days. Ha!
