Weekend Recap

Weekend Update

Good morning! I hope you all have had a great few weeks and holiday weekend! It’s been a bit since my last Weekend Recap, and now today we’re in a crazy winter weather advisory. The 30A area of Florida is potentially getting several inches of snow for the first time in 36+ years. So wild!

If you’re one of my California readers, I pray neither you nor family or friends were affected by the horrific fires while I was away. We were traveling in the midst of the outbreak and had limited time online. By the time we saw what was happening, it was absolutely devastating. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected!

I’ve been away a few weeks, so here’s a bit of what’s been going on around here (and while we were away)!

Home Projects & Updates

Our friends Rachel and Chris are moving a street over into a home that is about four months out from completion. Which means Rachel gets to select a lot of the finishes so we’ve had a lot of fun walking over frequently to check progress and pick paint colors, etc. She considered Sea Salt for her laundry room cabinets but we both agreed that might be too much color in the space for her neutral-loving heart 😉 She and I jointly may have the largest collection of Samplize paint samples. But I guess technically only if you like coastal colors and neutrals. Ha! But we both love these oversized samples that use real paint – so much more helpful than the chips at most stores. And they typically arrive overnight or super quick!

I’m pretty obsessed with this paint color she chose for all her interior doors! The color is Natural Cream by Benjamin Moore and it looks so beautiful with her Decorator’s White trim (also BM). The walls are only primed in the pics below, but she’s leaning towards a color like SW Alabaster or something similar. I’ll get updated photos once it’s a little further along, but I think it’s going to be stunning!

Around Town & For Fun

We left for the Bahamas back on Tuesday, January 8th and didn’t return home until the 14th. We had such an incredible time on our catamaran charter. I received a lot of questions about it on Instagram when I was sharing live videos, so I have a blog post in the works with all the details and tons of photos! We did everything from swimming with pigs to swimming with sharks to snorkeling underwater caves and more! In the meantime, can you even get over the beauty?!? I took this pic while we were driving in 10-12 foot deep water and it is still that clear! We were moving pretty quickly but we could still spot starfish and other plants and creatures.

Since our return, Kurtis and I have been really focusing on cooking at home (ignore my several mentions of eating out below) 😉 I believe I mentioned this before, but one of our goals for the New Year is to do meal prepping on Sundays and Wednesday so we have fruits and veggies cut and ready to go for the week. We’ve also been trying new recipes and bringing back some favorites. Kurtis is usually in charge of our breakfast and then I’ll try to have a plan for dinner (and lunch is usually leftovers). The top row shown below are the steps on this “Jennifer Aniston” salad we tried. We both really liked it (Kurtis more so than me) but we definitely plan to make it again! We also had steak fajitas (we used this recipe for the veggies but Kurtis grilled the steak) and then this tomato soup. I’m also making a sourdough loaf once a week so that usually gets mixed in with breakfast as toast, or grilled cheese with the tomato soup!

Hawkeye tends to be my shadow for a week or two after we travel. So he’s been “helping” me cook in the kitchen!

Two sweaters I’ve had on repeat lately: this one and this one. They both are slightly oversized but otherwise fit true to size (I’m in a large in both) and they both come in other color options.

Friday night we brought back our standing Amigos date night with some friends. For various reasons, it had been before the holidays since we’d gotten together. Basically we all know one couple or more will be there at a set time, and anyone is welcome to join! You can see below the green space outside looks a bit different this time of year. When it’s not tourist season and the locals think it’s too cold, nobody is outside!

My godmother Julie is still at Hola Beaches with her husband for a few more weeks. On Sunday, we took them and their son’s family to Camp Creek for a few hours. Their goddaughter really wanted to swim, but a lot of pools along 30A aren’t heated in January. But one of the Camp Creek ones was! Despite the 50-ish degree temps (with feels-like 40ish temps), she swam for a bit and had zero care how cold it was! We then had lunch together and it was so fun spending some time with all of them. I’m just bummed I didn’t get a picture of all of us!

Last night, Kurtis and I decided to head to Cuvee 30A for happy hour dinner since we know there is a likelihood we won’t be able to leave our house for a few days with the incoming weather. It’s one of our favorite restaurants, but they had been closed for a few weeks after the holidays, as several do here, for annual cleaning/repairs/updates and to give their staff time off after the busy season. Long story short, we hadn’t been for well over a month or two so made it happen! Always a favorite and we love their happy hour menu (and live music)!

A few friends on our street are planning a “blizzard party” tonight. We’ll be content with even a few visible snowflakes! I’m not sure I’ve ever been this excited for snow before. If we get any sort of accumulation, you can bet that my drone batteries have already been fully charged and there will be photos 😉 Stay warm friends!

Love that Rachel will be a close neighbor to you. Funny, but I thought she was already in your neighborhood!

Hahah! She is. She’s only three doors away right now, but thankfully will still be very close 🙂

We have friends who live in Gulf Breeze
(originally from KS) and boy, are they freaking out about the snow! His comment was “ no snow shovels, no ice scrapers, what are we suppose to do?! “🤣
I’m anxious to see your photos. Stay warm!

Hahaha! One of my friends asked if she needed to go buy a shovel. I told her it would melt pretty quickly 😉
