Weekend Recap

Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend! Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to over the past week or so.

Home Projects & Updates

Kurtis was out of town Monday thru Thursday for a work event, so I continued to work away on the new rental house and ensuring everything is here and ordering any last minute items.

Our house and garage were so full of stuff for the rental by the end of the week, it was getting hard to even walk around. I received multiple deliveries like this several times a day. Thankfully we have a dolly so I could wheel it back to the garage! Some of this stuff was HEAVY! And no, I still haven’t added plants to those planters. It’s on the agenda this week!

My little kumquat topiaries out by the pool are starting to produce fruit! Admittedly the leaves aren’t looking too hot on these plants (I’m probably not watering them enough for the extreme heat we’re experiencing) but I’m happy to see the fruit popping out!

I share more updates on our new rental below. But I plan to share the design plans for each of the spaces this week, and then the actual listing and updated photos either this week or early next week! I’m so excited to share it all!

Around Town & For Fun

With Kurtis out of town, and most of my week spent working on the rental property, Thursday morning, I got up early and decided to head to the closest beach access and walk the beach for a bit. It was such a beautiful morning and the water was really starting to clear up.

Afterwards, I decided to treat myself to breakfast at Raw & Juicy in Alys Beach. Something I hadn’t done for quite awhile!

Thursday afternoon, I did the walk-through on the new rental and then headed to dinner at Amigos with Chris and Rachel (Chris is our realtor). Despite it being the busy season here now, it’s still such a small town! We ran into our friends Marissa and Jake and their family, Loverly Grey’s parents visiting from Atlanta, and our friend Louise and her girls!

One of Louise’s daughters somehow hacked into my camera on my phone and I was dying of laughter at all the candid photos she took. Once I caught on what she was doing, I then gave her my best pose 😉 It was pretty funny to see everything she captured while we sat in the greenspace after dinner! I’m wearing this top, that has been one of my favorites of the year

Friday we closed on the new property and then headed directly over to meet our property managers. There were a lot of items (two van loads) at our house that we had to run back and forth as well. Thankfully our wonderful property managers are doing most of the heavy lifting for the rest of the setup. It looked a bit chaotic the few times we stopped by because we still have all the old furniture in there with the new. But the old furniture all gets picked up tomorrow so I’m excited to see everything come together! We still have a lot to do, but the goal is to have the property fully put together, cleaned, photographed and listed by the weekend. Our property managers have this wired for sound and it’s amazing home much they’ve accomplished in such a short period of time. I’ll keep you posted once we list!

As we were leaving the property Friday, we passed 8+ EMT vehicles and had to pull over along the side of the road many times. You may have seen the news, but it was a very terrifying and somber day along 30A, as there were two shark attacks with three victims. The attacks were likely by bull sharks, as many have been spotted in the area, as they are currently feeding on the rays that are here as well right now. The attacks were on beaches we frequent, and to be honest, I couldn’t stop thinking about or praying for the victims all weekend long. It was such an anomaly, as my understanding is there are only two known shark attacks along 30A in the past 19 years. So to then have two with three victims in a 90 minute window was just awful. Thankfully all three victims survived, but will likely have a very difficult road ahead. We continue to pray for the victims, their families, first responders and the witnesses of such traumatic events.

We had a casual sushi dinner out with friends that evening once we all wrapped up with the rental for the day.

Saturday night, two sets of our neighbors jointly hosted a block party. It was super last-minute, as most guests were only told the morning of, but apparently that’s the way to do it! There were so many people that attended and it was such a fun night and we got to meet a lot of great new people! I’m mixed in the pic in the middle.

We met this sweet, tiny little pup at the party and we both wanted to hold her all night. She was so precious! She doesn’t look that small in this picture, but I believe her parents said she was 4 lbs.

This evening, Kurtis’ sister and niece arrive from Iowa! Our niece is in vet school and has volunteered at a few local vets along 30A so she will be staying with us for two weeks. A little bit of work and play mixed in! Kurtis’ sister, Teresa, will be here until Saturday and will then fly home. His oldest sister, Janine, will then come in town mid-next week, and then drive back with our niece that weekend. It will be fun to have them all here, and for Teresa to see the area for the first time!
