Good morning! I hope you all had a nice weekend. Here’s a bit of what we’ve been up to this past week or so.

Home Projects & Updates
As promised, here’s a look at the splurge version and save version of the lamp from Wednesday’s Watch List side-by-side. I’m really happy with the look for less – especially since it was $707 less than the original! It looks like it is currently out of stock, but here is also this option that is still available.

We also headed to a new slab yard to try and wrap up the whole kitchen counter debacle. They only had two slabs we considered (I’m really only wanting a leathered/honed/brushed finish). Both options below are quartzites, a natural stone, so don’t let the Caesarstone tag fool you. The left was White Santorini and the right is White Oblivion. Leaning more towards the one on the right, but we’re having them both quoted to see if they’ll be good options.
It poured rain most of the day Saturday (we needed it!). Since it was so dark and gloomy, it gave us an opportunity to work on some projects that had been piling up around the house!
Kurtis finally installed this under-counter water filter we had heard so many great things about. We don’t have great-tasting water around here, and we could immediately tell a difference in taste once it was added. Kurtis said it was a pretty quick and easy install, too! We installed it for now in our laundry/pantry, and if we like it over time, we’ll add one to our main kitchen sink, as well. Our coffee already tastes dramatically better.
Speaking of water filters, I had also ordered this filtered shower head months ago and we got that installed too! Another one I had heard so many great things about, this one for hair and skin health. I’ve only showered with the filter twice since it was installed, so I can’t give a lot of feedback yet, but I’ll keep you posted! Another super easy install, and our water pressure actually feels better now with this shower head.
I also washed all the slipcovers on one of our sofas. Technically you’re not supposed to wash the Crypton linen, but some of you remember the red wine incident a year or so ago that basically forced us to wash them. So, since that time, I have tried to wash them regularly. The only downside we’ve noticed so far is all the strings that need to be clipped after the fact. But the slipcovers always look great after we wash them! The worst part is allowing them to air dry.
I’ve been hard at work planning the new rental, and with that, have pulled a few pieces of furniture we own (specifically from the carriage house). Our garage and entryway are basically furniture warehouses at this point. Ha! You can also see on the far right that the golf cart for the new rental was ready early, so we had it delivered to our personal house for our personal enjoyment over the next week or so 😉
These rattan dining chairs (shown above) are perfect for the new space, and I didn’t really feel like we needed them in the carriage house since it doesn’t sleep that many. So I used these gorgeous chairs (two of which I found on FB Marketplace months ago, and one at Resort Resale, the consignment shop, more recently). Love how they look in the space!
I’m using one at the little desk area.

Turns out we may need rainy weekend days more often, if we’re actually wanting to get things done around here!
The sun finally came out on Sunday, so I worked a bit on our backyard. Mostly just getting the furniture arranged and a few items unboxed. I think we’ll start using it a lot more now that summer is officially here and we have a few visitors on the agenda over the coming weeks!

And if you noticed in the image above, we’ve got some serious limes coming in! Can’t wait!

In Case You Missed It
Following are the posts I shared over the past few weeks, in case you missed some days!
Around Town & For Fun
Crazy enough, I realized I didn’t take a single picture after the holiday on Monday until Thursday. So not my usual style! I usually have dozens of pics a day to choose from, but it was just a crazy week overall!
Friday, our sweet friend Jane (can’t believe she’s almost 80!) invited us over for lunch. She went totally overboard on everything she cooked for us but it was all so delicious (and her lemon souffle was divine)! She also had us take a walking tour of her apartment grounds afterwards. She made sure we grabbed a snack from the clubhouse for the walk 😉 It was so fun to catch up with her and see her space!
The cats are never sad on rainy weekends because it means we’re home with them 😉 Henley got some fireplace time, and Hawkeye just did whatever I did. I was on the computer for a few hours and he passed out right in front of me. Not the easiest way to type. Ha!
We ended the weekend with a fun little golf cart ride around our neighborhood. It’s so peaceful and it was nice to get outside after working inside so much of the weekend.
Kurtis also decided we needed ice cream while we were out, so we cruised into Watersound Town Center and visited Nigel’s.
Kurtis is traveling for work most of the week and I’ll be wrapping up plans for the new rental. We close on Friday, so next weekend will likely be a bit chaotic as we pull all the old furniture and get it set up for photos and rental listings! Then, our niece and Kurtis’ sister arrive for two weeks the first of the week next week.

Love everything you do—your backyard looks like a private oasis!
We are in Texas and the mosquitos are in full force, especially after the rain, and it just makes it hard to be outside—have you had similar issues? How do you treat? Thanks!
Sarah says
Thank you so much! And we actually have very little issues with mosquitos where we live. Our county sprays for them and it seems to handle the issue. I’m pretty allergic to mosquito bites so I use spray otherwise. We definitely enjoy our screened-in porch too to keep other bugs away (especially while eating). I think we would have had to add screens to our cabana too, if it weren’t for the spraying.

Stick to your decision on leathered/honed counters. That’s what I have and I love them. Everyone who visits comments on them. Will you be posting a listing for your rental so we can visit?
Sarah says
Yes! I’m very committed to the decision, so less worried about the stone pattern than the finish! So happy to hear you love them! And YES! Hoping to have the listing live by 6/15 (I’ll do a blog post once it’s live with more photos). It will be available for rentals immediately once it’s live. I’m hoping to share some of the design boards yet this week 🙂
Linda Grubbs says
I always love all your photos, but the one of your backyard area…0h my! So gorgeous!

Thank you so much Linda! 🙂
