Wednesday Watch List – A Pinterest Tip

Wednesday Watch List

Hey guys! I wasn’t able to find enough items throughout the week worthy of a full Wednesday Watch List, but I wanted to share this tip I learned about yesterday from Kim at Sand & Sisal. I shared it on my Facebook page and received a lot of positive likes and comments so I thought it was worth sharing here, as well.  If you’ve noticed you’re Pinterest feed feels a bit “off” over the past week, you’re not alone….and there is a reason behind that:

Pinterest has followed FB’s big brother practices and decided that they will determine what you would like to view instead of the boards that you privately chose to follow. For the most organic and free viewing on Pinterest, I strongly recommend taking the following steps to ensure your privacy and freedom in viewing creativity in the blogosphere. I know my feed has changed QUITE a bit recently and I can’t say it is for the better.

Step 1) Go to your main Pinterest profile page {the one where you can see your personal board}. Click the gear in the upper right corner of your about section.
Step 2) Select account settings.
Step 3) Scroll down to “Personalization”.
Step 4) Turn BOTH switches to “NO”.
Step 5) Click SAVE.

This privacy action protects you (somewhat) from Pinterest adding cookies to all your activity on the internet and manipulating your feed.

Note: I love Pinterest {like seriously love}, but I’m concerned by their recent actions. I personally think that the user knows best and that the corporate world should never dictate, control or re-define what the free market deems worthy to view. It made me sad this past week to not love Pinterest the way I used to love it, but rather felt frustration and irritation. Trust me, I’m not giving up on it. I hope these small changes will make a difference and give me back the Pinterest I have loved {okay, obsessed over}!

My top pin this week? A bathroom with some serious style {although not 100% my style}. But I love the combo of the navy textured walls, glossy light blue cabinetry and the brass details. Gorgeous!

Lastly, don’t forget about the fabric sale – this coming Friday starting at 8 am CST. I promise there will be lots of great fabric to choose from!

This is so good to know! Thanks for sharing! It’s bad enough that FB feeds specific content, but now Pinterest has hopped on board too :/

Thanks for the reminder. I received an email from Pinterest last week regarding the promoted pin change but I had yet to update my settings.

I didn’t see personalization under my account settings. Maybe mine hasn’t upgraded yet? I really don’t like that I see several people in my feed that I am not following….though that isn’t something new. I cannot figure out how to get rid of it.
