This is a continuation of my travel series covering our Mediterranean cruise in July of 2010. Previously we shared about our time in Villefranche and Monaco. You can also visit my Mediterranean Cruise Day 1 post for the introduction and at the end of the post, you’ll find links to every other day from our trip. Today focuses on our day in St. Tropez, France – our last stop on the vacation of a lifetime!

Day 9 Highlights:
  • Spending the excursion with two couples from our dinner table
  • Our excellent French lunch
  • Laughing at all the stupid people on our excursion {apparently everyone was starting to lose their minds at this point in the trip}
  • The lavender that appeared to be on steroids
On this excursion to St. Tropez, we were finally with people we knew!  The drive to St. Tropez was beautiful and we had fun talking with our dinner table mates!
You can rent these yachts for the small price tag of 100,000 Euros as week {not including gas or staff} which is the equivalent of about $125,000 per week.
We strolled through the town for about an hour with our guide.  The pastel buildings were all so beautiful against the water.  I also loved all the bougainvillea, jasmine and fig trees that were growing next to all the buildings.
Streets and homes in St. Tropez, France. Gorgeous colored buildings and bougainvillea.

This collage includes photos of the beach where Bridgette Bardot wore the world’s first bikini.

We were then dropped off in the open air market to do some shopping.  It was way too hot and crowded there for us so we left after about ten minutes to shop the stores of St. Tropez.  Unfortunately everything was really expensive so we didn’t buy much.  But, we did have a fun time looking for celebrities {no such luck}.

We had lunch as a group at a great little French restaurant.  The atmosphere was amazing.  They had a lavender theme {it is famous in this Provence region} and had fresh grapes growing as the roof on the patio.  Everyone really liked us too, because they thought we were French-Canadians like Gilles and Lynne – who are fluent in French!

After lunch, we headed to France’s “Little Italy.”  It actually reminded me a lot of the Newport Beach area in California where you can just drive your boat right up to your house.  Afterwards, we six wandered around and explored we grabbed drinks prior to getting back on the bus.

That night was our last night on the ship.  It was sad to say goodbye to everyone {including our waiter Charlton}, but I think we were all ready to go home and get back to our normal lives.  Here is our farewell drinks with our friends.

What an amazing trip ~ I can’t wait to go back. In order to stop the jet lag this direction, we had to try and stay awake for both flights.  Thankfully, Delta had free in-flights movies, TV, games, etc.  So I managed to watch four movies, all of the chick-flick variety!  In order of my favorite to least favorite:  Leap Year, When in Rome, Valentine’s Day and Bounty Hunter.

And, in honor of our last meal in Barcelona a photo op – even if it was at the airport!  Now, I think I need to go on another vacation just to recover from the past 14 hours of blog posting.  I may have been better off going back to work today!

Thanks for following the journey of our favorite trip this past week! Hopefully it has inspired everyone to take their own trip of a lifetime! Now, back to my regularly scheduled posts over the next week {even though I will be out of town again – this time for my work!}
