This is a continuation of my travel series covering our Mediterranean cruise in July of 2010. Today focuses on our third day in Barcelona, departure on the cruise and our day at sea and then each day this week we will cover each of our ports in Spain, Italy and France. See my Mediterranean Cruise Day 1 post for the introduction. At the end of this post, you’ll also find links to all days and ports of call of the cruise.
This will likely be the shortest post of our entire trip since the majority of the day was spent packing and waiting in line and getting situated again.
We spent the morning in Barcelona briefly before heading to the pier to board our ship. We had breakfast again at Starbucks {that chocolate coulis was the death of me} and then packed up to head to our ship, Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas.
Our first meal on the ship and me giving my husband the evil eye for making fun of me for putting ketchup on my hot dog. I would say overall, the food on this cruise was just okay. In the past it has always been very good, but this time around, it left much to be desired.
We layed out for a few hours trying to get rid of our pasty Nebraska skin. Once our luggage showed up in our room, we got cleaned up to head for dinner. We had the late seating {9:00 p.m.} this time around for dinner. For those of you not familiar with how this works, you eat in the formal dining rooms at the same table and time every night for dinner. We had an AMAZING group of people we met from our table {will post much more on that later} and we got along really well.

And here is our lovely little room. Cruise ships are not known for their vast sleeping quarters as you can clearly see below.
Day 4
Our first full day on our ship was literally the only relaxing day we had the entire vacation. I have never been on such an exhausting vacation in my entire life. But, it was all worth it!
Here are some highlights of the top deck on our ship: miniature golf, basketball court, rock-climbing wall, a golf-themed bar and tons of space to lay out. We spent a few hours laying out {but didn’t want to burn} and then went inside to various places to read. Our ship also passed through the straight between the islands of Corsica and Sardinia so we went out to watch that as well.
This day was also our first formal dinner on the ship. Prepare your eyes for the brightness of my dress. It was one of the few that fit me on the clearance rack at Dillard’s and I didn’t really want to pay a lot so I scooped it up. Its a little boho/hippie-ish for me but it was still cute. I also had to include this series of photos. I had asked someone at our table to take a photo of my husband and me and I had forgotten that it was on self-timer mode still from our nightly dinner outfit pose. Once we realized it {it makes a beeping noise to prepare you} I launched forward to grab the camera from Farah, and it was so funny because she totally turned into paparazzi mode. We all got a pretty good laugh.
Here ends the “easy” and “short” posts. I know you are probably all wondering how I could possibly have longer posts than our Barcelona days, but I am telling you, our days from here on out were seriously intense but so enjoyable. First stop, Naples Italy. Little did we know, we would get VERY little sleep from here on out.
Check in tomorrow for the truly amazing start of the trip – first stop – Naples, Italy. That’s right – it only got better!

The cruise ship looks gorgeous and looks like you really had fun in your trip. I am now tempted to go to a Mediterranean Cruise trip after seeing yours. This is one beautiful way to spend a holiday and vacation with your partner. Last year I experienced corryvreckan boat trips where people get to experience whale and dolphin-watching. It was wonderful as well.
