Today I’ve teamed up with the top 30 home decor and DIY blogs, hosted by Cami from TIDBITS, to share my top ten posts of 2017. At the end of the post, you’ll find links to all the other top posts round-ups, which I promise is a rabbit-hole of gorgeous spaces and projects! It’s a great way to find some new bloggers you may love and want to follow. Also, if you’re newer to my blog, it’s a great way to see some of the highlights of the past year that you may have missed!
The hard thing about a top post list is that many times, something can take off on Pinterest, and completely change the game. I’m pretty sure that’s what happened with a post or two on my list. So, I actually included my top 12 since there were two almost perfect ties.
In countdown style, following are my top 12 blog posts of 2017! You can click through on each of the titles to see the full, original post.

12 – How to Paint Buffalo Check Walls – This project was one of the most tedious I tackled this year, but it was totally worth it in the end. The buffalo check wall in our laundry room adds so much personality to the space and finally helps make the room feel finished!
11 – Office Reveal & Hardwood Floors – This was by far my favorite project of the year! Not only did we have all the carpet torn out in the office and replaced with white oak hardwood floors, but I painted all the side walls and trim white. The office makeover makes this my favorite room in our home now!
10 – Rental House Reveal – This was one of our scariest projects of the year! We bought half of a seventeen year old townhome and it needed a major overhaul. We had all the walls painted, floors ripped out and replaced, replaced all the appliances, and we changed all the light fixtures, among other things. It was a fun challenge to work on our rental house makeover!
9 – Darlana Pendant Look for Less – This was one of my favorite posts of the year, because you all know I love a good look for less. Especially one that is so close to the original! The light fixture in our dining room is always a reader favorite but it wasn’t cheap. So, when I found a nearly identical alternative (and all the various sizes, finishes and shapes it comes in) at 1/4 of the cost, it deserved it’s own post!
8 – Green & White Christmas Living Room & Dining Room – It always surprises me when a post from the last few weeks of the year makes it in the top ten, since it didn’t have as long to “marinate” online. But I think that’s because Christmas decor is so popular! And, in this post, I shared our new living room furniture for the first time along with our dining room all dressed up for Christmas.
7 – Summer Home Tour – Summer home tours are usually some of my favorite of the year, and 2017’s was no exception! I especially loved the vibe in our guest bedroom from the tour..
6 – How to Paint Thermofoil Cabinets – This was one of those projects where I wasn’t really sure if the end result would be a disaster or amazing. Thankfully our painted cabinets (and powder room makeover) turned out perfectly!
5 – Fall Home Tour Part IÂ – Fall is always a tough time of year for me to decorate, because I hate to see summer go! So, our fall home tour this year included subtle updates to texture and richer colors and I love how it turned out!
4 – 20 Smoothie Bowl Recipes – Funny enough when I pulled my top ten about three weeks ago to see what looked like it would make the list, this smoothie bowl post was in position 9. Thanks to the powers of Pinterest, it jumped five spots in that time. Likely because everyone is deciding to eat better for the new year 😉
3 – Entryway Painted Door Makeover – The entryway update was a spur of the moment update when I was working on the office makeover. But the addition of the painted door and some fresh accessories totally transformed the space! I’m actually still not done here (I still really want to lighten the walls) but I love how far it’s come!
2 – White Houses with Black Trim – In this post, I shared some thoughts/plans we have for painting the exterior of our home when the time is needed. I’m leaning towards a warm white and leaving our window trim a dark brown (nearly black). In this post, I gave an exterior tour and shared some major sources of inspiration!
1 – Decked & Styled Spring Home Tour – My spring home tour won by a landslide. As in, nearly triple the views of the next closet post! I know it was a popular one on the blog at the time, but I also think it’s because of two of the images from the tour that have done really well on Pinterest. See more of these spaces and other rooms in our spring home tour.

Did you have a post earlier this year on your method for make pillow covers? I keep thinking it was one of your posts. It was an ingenious method for putting in the zipper and getting professional results.
Thank you – I do! It was actually from 2013 but it’s still the method I use today. Here’s the link: https://lifeonvirginiastreet.com/2013/09/tutorial-throw-pillow-with-zipper-html/.
