stripes + and the alternative

I attempted to make my striped curtains today via this method.  Let’s just say, it ended with me throwing the panel in the garbage.  It was that bad.  It actually started out well and thought I was doing everything to cover my bases. Frog tape {rather than blue painter tape}.  Check.  Spray on fabric dye {that I had to special order}.  Check.  Measurements for perfect stripes.  Check.  Cardstock to cover the white areas from overspray.  Check.  Not getting the spray to bleed…..UNCHECK. I had read online that this may be a problem, so I am glad I only painted two stripes {which, by the way, took an entire bottle of dye} rather than finishing both panels to reveal the problem.  I am lucky I found each panel for less than $6.00 in the Target clearance bin!  The sad part is I can tell they were going to look really cute if they worked.

So, I had to improvise.  Here is the alternative.  It looks okay {they are the leftover white panels that I didn’t destroy}.  They are actually about two inches too short but we couldn’t hang them any lower due to the window.  So, maybe it is best the stripes didn’t work.  I would have been really annoyed if they turned out well and were this short.  I do love the fact that they soften the room up a bit and just add some texture and dimension to the walls.  Oh, and notice that the turquoise is gone!  Please ignore the fact that I didn’t feel like cleaning prior to taking photos.

I am still longing for my striped curtains {to help tie in all the white furniture to our dark brown leather sectional}.  The room is a little boring and monotone right now.  But, maybe my mom can help make me some next time she is in town!
