{spring} weekend recap

DIY Projects, Weekend Update

The weather was great here all weekend.  The husband and I managed to take two extended walks around our neighborhood {we have gone to the gym for two weeks strait, miraculously}.  The cats got to go out and even had to get their Frontline.  Some other things we were up to in addition to a little spring cleaning:
Friday night we went to one of our favorites, Charleston’s to celebrate a positive annual review for me at work.  I get nervous every year before my review.  The review also just gave us an excuse for a fun night out on the town!
We had our first {successful} grill-out of the season today.  Turns out our tank was overfilled or filled improperly two weeks ago when we tried and our lines kept freezing {as in everything literally iced over – which obviously is not safe at all}.  New tank today and it worked like a charm!  Fresh burgers, chicken and homemade guacamole {don’t worry – we planned to have leftovers for lunch later this week}.  Yummy!
Bearcat and Henley were upset we were on the deck without them:
I started a few of the projects I mentioned here.  Not much progress on the wreath.  Turns out it is going to be a long ride!  Luckily it is easy otherwise.

I also whipped up a few throw pillows.  It is amazing how much faster I am now that I have learned how to add zippers and don’t have to mess with the envelope back.  Shown with lamp set #4 that is also likely to be returned.  The husband isn’t convinced the pillows “match.”  But that’s sort of the point and I think they look cute together.  Especially once I finish the drapes.

I searched every fabric store in the city for cheap, heavy white fabric and black grossgrain ribbon to finish the drapes, but refused to pay full price.  The drape project will have to wait until the supplies go on sale!

I also made a minor change in our master bathroom.  Also known as the worst room in our house.  Although we use it ALL the time, it is so neglected.  I decided to add a shower curtain to semi-hide the soap-scum stained doors and brighten the room a little.  I also wasn’t convinced that my roman shade really was covering us up when we showered so this gives a little more privacy.

BEFORE – yes, our countertop pretty much always looks like this – there is a reason why you pretty much NEVER see this room:

AFTER {the “shower curtain” is really just our old white curtains from the bonus room but they work for now} – don’t mind the bags of towels in the bathtub!  I think the curtains help elongate the space.  I thought about adding brown ribbon tips but since this is likely a temporary solution I may hold off.  And yes, I realize they need to be washed and ironed:

Someday soon I would like our master bath to look more like these {color-wise} that I found on Decorpad – I can’t find anything that is exactly what I want:

I’m thinking a pale bluish-grayish-sagish color with all white accents.  Its been a LONG time since I’ve painted anything and I’m getting the itch!  Paint color more like this:

I also read through some great camera tutorials on a blog I love that have me hoping for a new lens someday.  I realized that I must have messed up something on my aperture setting when I took this class over two years ago, not realizing it locks it in when you set it {and doesn’t reset when you shut your camera off}.  This alone will help my photography skills!

Henley found a new bed today:
And lastly, I downloaded this cute April background for my computer.
I have a pretty crazy/hectic work schedule ahead of me {we are implementing new systems} so this was the perfect weekend!  I was also able to schedule some pre-planned blog postings in case I get behind!
