Holiday entertaining can get costly in a hurry, particularly if you’re hosting. Today I wanted to share a unique blue Thanksgiving tablescape, and also share where I’m willing to splurge versus save when it comes to creating tablescapes. Plus, at the end of the post I’m offering a giveaway to one lucky reader!
What you’ll quickly see is that I’m willing to spend a bit more on an item when I feel like I can use it for several seasons and/or it can multi-task for other purposes. It might be fun at the time to splurge on trendy items are very specific seasonal decor, but you’ll likely be happier in the long run if you search for more affordable trendy items and then save your investment pieces for staple entertaining elements. Pier 1 Imports is not only affordable but offer a variety of versatility in their products and their entertaining section is so expansive!
For this tablescape, I went with non-traditional colors and opted for a look with true blues, metallics and some organic, rustic elements. This gives a slightly coastal flair to the tablescape, all while still feeling cozy and warm for a Thanksgiving meal!
Our table is extremely porous, so we don’t eat at it unless we have a tablecloth or placemats down. I loved the thickness of the weave on these blue and white woven placemats, and they helped tie the lighter colors from the tablescape in with the richer blues! They’re basically like little rugs for each place setting and I love the added texture they provide! I used these deep blue napkins to tie all the blues together. I prefer to go cheap though, on simple seasonal decor. For example, the metallic pumpkins from Pier 1. They came in a long tube and ended up costing just over $1 each! But, they add the perfect amount of seasonal whimsy and shine to the table!
The driftwood chargers were a splurge for me, but I was willing to spend more because I can use them all seasons of the year! They coordinate so well with our table and gift the perfect rustic or beachy vibe to any place setting!
For the centerpiece, I bought three of these large branches with faux moss. They are very substantial and would work just as well in a spring or summer tablescape as they would a fall tablescape. I simply added two sprigs of oak leaves (not available online, so check your local stores for availability). In the spring you could add in a more fitting sprig to completely change the look! You could just as easily go with some fresh clipping from outside for an even more budget-friendly approach!
I added these super soft plush indigo pillows at the head seats, to add some bold dark blues to the space. I splurged a bit on these blue acrylic wine glasses. They are by no means crazy expensive, however I typically like to keep my servingware neutral and don’t usually splurge on colored items. In this case though, I loved the rich blue, and because these are acrylic, I know they can multi-purpose for outdoor entertaining as well!
At the end of the day, only splurge on items you know you’ll use regardless of season and/or those you know you can use for years to come! Then, plan to save on trendy items or ones you’ll like only get a use or two out of!
I hope you enjoyed these tips and this non-traditional blue Thanksgiving tablescape! What are your favorite ways to save on holiday entertaining expenses?

I love the whole look but especially the driftwood chargers… would scoop them up in a heartbeat with the gift card!!!
I LOVE the wood chargers. I would spend the gift card on these. I feel there would be many uses for them throughout the year. Pier One is such a fun store that never disappoints.
Was just shopping online for chargers yesterday-I love these driftwood chargers! You can truly use them year-round.
Love the greenery and want to splurge on those adorable pumpkins – so cute!
I love any type of placemats and napkins. Always playing with the combinations. I really love those chargers.
I would love to have those driftwood chargers as well!
The branches with moss are what I would buy, so versatile.
Love the look and I like the branches with moss.
Hands down the driftwood chargers! They absolutely transform the table to look high end and the warmth of the wood tones makes for a very inviting sit down meal.
I love the look of your Thanksgiving table. I would probably want to do something like you did.
I would purchase those little gold pumpkins. Or if they had them in Copper I would consider them too. I have been dreaming of a Thanksgiving tablescape in Navy, (gold or copper) and fresh greens.
Your tablescape is gorgeous!! I love the large blue “Praise God from whom all blessings flow…” that you have on the wall, equally beautiful! If I won the gift card, I would love to purchase some wall art for my entry way. I am loving the “Sentiment Tree LED Light-Up Wall Decor”. Too cute!
Would love the driftwood for table designs but also love their table runners and have been wanting to invest in more.
Beautiful table scape!!!
I, like you, love blue and you have done such a nice job of combining some very rich hues.
I think I need some solid blue napkins!
But of course I never enter Pier one that I don’t see 10 things I want!
Definitely the chargers. Beautiful table.
Your table setting is beautiful! I would love to use the gift card to purchase some new ornaments for our tree – it needs some updating this year!
Thanks,
Karen
It would be hard to choose from this beautiful setting but I really like those blue glasses and the pumpkins. I have a weakness for pumpkins.
Love this whole look ! I am in love with those driftwood chargers and would definitely purchase those.
Beautiful table! I definitely need those chargers. I love your blog and all the information about home, food, and fashion. Keep up the great work!
I love your blog! And as far as Pier 1… definitely their wreaths and throw pillows for added holiday decor!!!
Gorgeous! The driftwood chargers would be perfect for my Thanksgiving gathering!
I would use the gift card on a pretty holiday pillow. I love adding them to chairs, the bed, etc. to add a touch of holiday decor to every room!
Chargers for sure!
I love the table setting. The chargers are beautiful but I need Christmas dishes and napkins. I can’t get past the Golden Retriever Christmas plates but I seriously need the tartan plaid plates. I have faux magnolia stems in my cart right now. Pier 1 does a great job with faux stems and branches.
Love to hear your home updates.
I love your beautiful tablescape Sarah, and how you consistently stay within your style in such a creative way. I have had the cedar branch placemats in my cart for some time so that would be my choice!
Beautiful table! I love the moss branches and leaves–they add an earthy feel. The centerpiece has inspired me to buy the Lindon Green Lumbar pillow. This particular green velvet is just the right t color to transition from fall to Christmas.
I”ve had my eye on one of Magnolia’s new Lotus rugs there at Pier 1. Thanks for the giveaway!
I would buy faux greenery to run down the center of my very long Thanksgiving table, as you have inspired me with that fabulous idea! I love that it fills the space nicely and is low and not in the way of conversation.
I would LOVE the driftwood chargers
Beautiful table! Your generous $25 gift card would give me a great start on these Christmas/Winter placemats: https://www.pier1.com/cedar-branch-placemat/3209285.html?cgid=placemats#nav=tile&icid=cat_dining_entertaining-subcat_table_linens-subcat_tile_placemats&start=1
i thought this was too cute! Santa Belt Bow Door Decor
Beautiful and simple set-up!
I would buy the faux fresh pine garland to add some natural texture and greenery that I can use year after year.
I love the fact that all Thanksgiving tables don’t need to be fall themed. The blue looks great. But I’m wondering what do you do with your food when serving, do you remove all the centerpiece stuff or always do a buffet? Where do you put the platters and vegetable bowls, etc.
I would love to get some Evergreen candles!
I would use the gift card to make my table look more festive. I would get the Park Avenue Puppies Christmas Tree Oval Platter.
I would (will) those chargers! Your table looks beautiful!
I would have a hard time choosing between the place mats and the chargers, love them both.
I love the chargers! If I were to win the gift card, I’d love to buy more of the jewel silver wine glasses. I have two and would love to add a couple more to my holiday table setting.
This may sound crazy, but if I win I would buy tons of Halloween decor that is on clearance right now! I love buying holiday/seasonal decor on sale right after the holiday is over.
I need the blue placemats for my new dining room table. Love this look!
Blue is one of my fav colors to decorate. I love the idea of going with a non traditional approach to set one’s Thanksgiving table. I will have to check them out.
Pier 1 is my favorite! I also love blue and that’s my main color in our living room. Those placemats are gorgeous!
Your table is simple yet elegant and oh so beautiful!! Love your decorating taste!
I would use the Pier 1 gift card to get a jump on my Christmas decor shopping!!
Happy Holidays!!
Love your tablescape. I am into blues. The branch with moss or the chargers are what J would buy.
I am loving the velvet pumpkins this fall…if Pier 1 has those that is what I would purchase with the gift card! If they do not have them I would have no problem finding something else! Pier 1 is my “feel happy place”! How can one not feel happy walking into that store!?
Love your tablescape and how it matches your wall hanging. I also like that it is holiday appropriate with a different take than the usual fall colors. I would use the gift card for pillows for the Christmas season! I am really enjoying your blog as I live in Lincoln and have family in Omaha!
It would be a hard choice because they have so many beautiful things, but I think I would have to go with chargers. Every year I find that is the one thing I forget to buy for my holiday table.
I always love your tablescapes! This one is no exception. All of the texture makes it very inviting. Honestly if I won the giftcard I would put it towards this cabinet that I want to use as night stands!

I would love to win the dinner plates.
Marilyn
I would love to win the blue place mats. They are lovely.
Marion
I would love the fresh pine garland.
Joan
Chargers! Every season I think how great that would be on my table and every year it passes by…i love the blue!
Hi Sarah-
Hosting my first Thanksgiving this year and your post provided inspiration and direction! Love the non traditional tablescape and tips on how splurge vs save.
Thank you!
I have a new, neutral sofa and am looking forward to changing up the pillows each season. I’d love to have the Pumpkin Trio Lumbar Pillow for it.
I would splurge on the Landen Black Metal Lanterns. They can work for all seasons and holidays! I have been looking for new lanterns and these are perfect!
I need some new Christmas pillows! Love all the velvet snowflake ones they have right now! Those driftwood chargers are also calling my name!
I have a cart full of items saved from Pier 1 right now, I’m eyeing their hobnail goblets!
If you know me…it would only be something on the clearance!! LOVE ME SOME CLEARANCE BUYS!!
I adore Pier 1!! I would definitely use the gift card toward the Beaded Sea Creature Coastal Tree Skirt to add a little bit of the Caribbean to my Christmas decor!
I love the little gold pumpkins on Pier 1. Love your décor!
I would use it to buy the Gray Woven Tree Collar! xoxo
I absolutely love those driftwood chargers and the ability to use them all year round! I would also love the faux magnolia flower napkin rings to complete my winter white dining room theme. Can also use them in the springtime, too!
I adore your “blue Thanksgiving” table. I, like one of the other commenters, would swoop the driftwood chargers up in a heart beat. They are stunning and match a large round mirror in my front hallway perfectly. I love blue but have never really been drawn to it to decorate with in the past but that has all changed. I have at least Turquoise in every room and recently started to incorporate a few different shades in my living room. I would be so comfortable walking into your home, thanks for the mini tour, I can’t wait to see more now that I’m subscribing to your site. I think i would spend the gift certificate on either the chargers or the stunning ( i can’t believe they are acrylic) blue glasses ! Thanks for letting me peek inside.
I would get something made of copper, perhaps the copper ice bucket.
I’d buy the identical placemats that you’ve featured in this post. They look awesome and I’m going to have to stop this weekend and check them out in person. I’m also a fan of candles so I’d definitely be picking up some neutral candles. Lovely post and I like the non-traditional color scheme.
Would pick up a new fall/winter pillow 🙂
I would put it towards the “Amelia” gray coffee table. Thanks for the opportunity to win a Pier 1 gift card!
I love the placemats. I have cobalt blue goblets and these would go so well with them. I also LOVE Pier 1!
I would buy one of their woven twig placemats for under my centerpiece! I’ve been looking at those for a while now! Thanks for the chance to win!
I would stock up on some candles for the holiday season like fresh balsam or fireside sweets layered pillar candles.
I would use it to buy the beaded sea creature coastal tree skirt.
I love this driftwood chargers! They give the whole table such a cozy beachy feel!
The Reindeer Caddy is so cute! I already use jars for the silverware at our family dinners, so it’s perfect!
Thank you for the opportunity to win. I would probably pick a couple of new ornaments for our Christmas tree!
I love the Believe rug! So many awesome home items to choose from!
By far, my favorite is the rugged placemat. Could be used year long. I’ a more “pure” blue and white person so I would use my gift card to get Pier 1’s white carved charger. My splurge years ago was blue and white turkey plates by Queen’s Myott which I would set atop the white plate. The metallic pumpkin is the icing on the cake. Love your tablescape.
The placemats are a great addition! Mostly I’d love to splurge on an assortment of great throw pillows! Pier 1 is my go to for lush decorations!
i have to go with something from their chanukah collection. the light up menorah art is fun!
I am hosting family as well as “orphaned” friends that need a place to go this Thanksgiving. I would love to splurge on the blue acrylic glasses to make it an extra beautiful table for them!
I would definitely use the gift card for an engagement gift for my little sister and her fiancé. 🙂
Thank you for the opportunity.
Now can you please come decorate my home?!
It seems like a popular choice, but I would also want to use the gift card toward the driftwood chargers. I love them.
Beautiful table! Is that the Bradding collection.?I’m interested in the table. I love blue. I have a nautical theme. I just bought the chargers, a blue acorn. I would love to get more decor for the holidays. God Bless.
Thank you! I actually got the table from Hayneedle about a year ago. Here’s the affiliate link to it: http://rstyle.me/n/b3advn75re.
I love this combo! Never would have dreamed of doing blue at thanksgiving but definitely want to try it! Gorgeous…
Where is the blue picture from??
It’s from Lindsay Letters and is called the Doxology canvas. You can get it here: https://lindsayletters.com/products/the-doxology-canvas.
